View 2 RepliesI’m a 3DS Max transfer. In 3DS Max there is an option to open an image file for modeling reference in a separate window within Max which always stays on top. This is NOT an image plane to model off of but an IMAGE FILE, a picture i can get the details from that don’t show in a drawing or plane. Currently I open images or groups of images(NOT SEQUENCES) in the default OS file viewer program. This is fine with a dual monitor setup, where I throw the reference images to the other screen. But what about when I’m on my laptop on the go or have no other monitor? Currently I’d have to open the same program, have it underneath MAYA and flip back and forth, which is a very big hassle over time. I’d like to be able to open a small, resizable window WITHIN maya and view the image file(or files!) there so I can move it around my workspace and glance over to it in an instant.
I still want my four panels or all of my panel space to work with. With it being resizable i can even shrink it down to get the gist in the upper right corner where no icons are even zoom in on parts with such a small window.
So a friend created a model using zbrush and exported several different *.OBJ files. I imported those to maya and added shaders. They all fit correctly together when imported.
some of those obj files required me to do a mesh->combine. so now it appears that not every item has the same reference point so that when I move or scale the entire item, some of the objects move seperately. I think it is only the ones I had to combine.
I tried freeze transformations, but when doing that, some of the objects lost their scale settings and still didnt move together as one unit.
Do maya have a way to reference meshes (like in softimage/max)? Its basically like instancing a mesh. However tho changing the "parent" object will change the "child", the child wont change the parent.
View 3 Replies View Relatedi'm new in autodesk maya's world, so i'm having some problems with it, my class is working in a 3d dragon, we started with dragon's body, but, now, we are working in its head, so i started importing images into the viewport, but i cannot move them well, because there's a kind of ghost image with them (i put two images, and there's a ghost image for each one) and when i put them in perspective view to see where i want, they often desappear, and i cannot work with them, i tried deleting history by type, and center each one's pivot, but it didn't work.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIn the side and front view, the references are displayed in the wrong place on the screen. It is fine on the perspective view, but not side or front. The outline if I select the image is in the right place, but the image is not.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if there is a way to create a group of vertices, edges or faces and somehow create a reference point or attach them to some kind of locator so they can be referenced at a later point. I want to be able to select a group of edges, model them and then move on to another task within Maya and have some kind of reference point so I can go back to the original group and not have to select them individually every time I want to work on that group of edges, faces or vertices, is this possible? I will post a picture shortly to this post so you can see an example of a specific group of edges that I would like to set a reference point or locater for.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm creating a face, but what I want is to have whatever happens on the right to happen on the left, instead of clicking each point to move the edges. I tried just cutting the face in half and duplicating, but I don't know how to flip second copy.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm sure I have accidently set some mode that does this, but when I select a face and do a move function, the entire object moves instead of just that 1 face.
The entire object turns yellow when selected, or yellow/red depending on the size/shape.
We are just trying out Maya on the OSX Platform.
In the tutorial that we are going through, we are asked to select 2 curves, center the pivot point, and then hit the 'Insert' key to allow us to move the pivot point, and then holding down the 'C' key we should be able to move the pivot point along the curve.
Looking around we found that if you hit the 'fn + left arrow' keys you are meant to get the same as using the 'insert' key on the PC, but this is not right, and also when you try to hold down the 'C' key it does not allow the pivot point to be constrained to the curve.
So where is the 'Insert' key on the Mac?
How I can move pivot that camera rotate around?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm having this issue where when I select an object in the outline and want to move it say, to another group or reorder the objects, it changes my mouse to circle with a line through it and won't me do anything.
View 3 Replies View Relatedso in the texture editor. as far as i know we can only move the verts around (with F12). we can select edges, to see where they relate on the mesh, but we can't move them. is there any way to move edges of the layout??
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo, when in object mode, I can manually input numbers to translate, rotate, and scale an object - either in the channel box, or in the attribute editor.
But what about subobjects (components) like verts, faces, and edges?
Sure I can move em around with the manipulator, but where can I manually enter in precise numbers?
I am trying to model the following simple structure:
I made this example by creating a new polygonal cylinder, rotating the top edges that are to the right of the x-axis and repositioning the affected vertices afterwards, but doing it that way just doesnt feel right, it seems too unclean to me.
I would like the affected vertices to only move on a given axis when rotating the edges, so I dont need to reposition them after the rotate operation. I tried to illustrate what I mean in the following screenshot:
The edges I want to rotate are marked in red, the vertices that are supposed to only move on the y-axis are marked in green. The arrows indicate the desired movement.
Is this way of rotating an edge possible with the rotate tool or something?
My rotate tool in maya seems to be "locked" i can't freely rotate whenever i left click hold the center and it only rotates where my viewport is looking at so if im at the X axis I can't rotate the Z axis. Tried setting my preferences to default and nothing. I've also set my rotate tool to default.
Whenever I move my camera say to the Z axis the Z handle gets selected and same when I move the camera to the X axis.
I know there is a way to change the size of the arrows, I already did it and made them bigger and I forget how to make them small again...
View 1 Replies View Relatedso I am trying to figure out how best to create the terrain for this mine site. I thought maybe I could do this with vue, but it proved to be very difficult. I was thinking of using contour lines but that in itself can be messy with some very ugly triangulation. I posed a picture of what it is I am trying to atchive.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm a beginner in Maya and have to model an object for college. I've modelled an iPhone 4 in Maya 2012 and I've added colour to it but i want to add an image to the screen face. I've added the image using lambert but the image is blown up and i don't know how to resize it. I've fiddled with the settings in '2d Texture Placement Attributes' but the only thing i've been able to do was rotate the image so it's not upside down, it's still blown up. Is there another editor window to resize it?
I've also tried using the UV Texture Editor but everything is a mess on top of eachother and everytime i move things around maya crashes . Is there any other way to add the image to the face?
I created a new scene, added the image planes. But now I cannot move them, it's all gray.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAny chance I can make an Image Plane behave like a one-sided display? Like sort of a Backface Culling option for Image Planes?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to align my model to my image plane. I marquee select the vertices but only the one in the front selects I have checked Back face culling and soft selections and made sure that they are not on but it is still not working.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI would like to design the table from the image. I am having some problems giving thickness to the snail shell. I extruded it (wasn't that pleased with the result but... it was better than nothing) and tried to smooth it. The result was a horror because there were to many edges and maya took them as a height difference.
My question is:
1. How can i make the thickness better, without all the holes? (can i create edges between vertices)
2. How can i smooth the poly without making it look like a shell covered inside with spikes.
I have a problem when I am modeling my character or rather the character from the animation academy. I have created an NURBS sphere and I want to adjust it to the arm, so I go to the component mode add some isosparms and then it happens!!! I can´t move any vertexes... but in the object mode I can move the hole object.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm very new to the world of 3d modeling, how to use 3Ds Max for creating 3D models with the intention of 3D printing the final design.
I am a HUGE fan of the Transformers Movie verse and I really want to make a 3D model of "Bumblebee" one of the characters that appears in it. There are a large number of 3D models of this character out there, but my intention is to recreate him in very first appearance in the 1st Movie.I wanted to make this figure as close and accurate as possible to the movie,so I scoured the net to look for reference pictures and was finally very lucky to find some of the original design sketches.
the images I have found are not like this, and I am not so confident that I could draw them in the correct perspective and scale as needed. Is it absolutely necessary or can I work around this?
I am trying to use a reference image on a plane in 3ds Max but everything comes out Blurry and pixelated. I have tried the Customize...Preferences... Viewports option but the Configure driver is greyed out. it says ''Nitrous (direct 3d) 11.0 feature level 11 - ATI Radeon HD 5700'' next to Configure Driver.. (greyed out)
What can i do to make reference images not pixelated? and transparency on boxes and polygons is extremely buggy (i can only see 2% through it when alt+x)
I need to select a block in AutoCAD, and move it up or down vertically. I can get to the point where I have the user select a particular block, but after that, how do I get a reference to the block selected so I can move it up or down?
View 1 Replies View RelatedAn animator has been getting a crash when unloading a reference in some of our scenes. When I take the same scene and try the same unload-reference operation, it works fine for me without crashing.
I've attached the crash log from the animator's machine.
We're both on Maya 2013. I'm on Windows 8, he's on Windows 7, in case it's relevant. We're using the same set of custom plug-ins.
Note that we're not using nested references - this is a top-level reference that we're trying to unload.
I noticed this in the online readme file for Maya 2014: MAYA-19363 Unloading reference node may cause Maya crash.
If so, is there a workaround for Maya 2013 till we all move over to Maya 2014?
I'm creating a window family by modifying a pre-existing one. One of the things I need to do is to move the reference planes defining the "left" and "right" edges of the window opening, so as to make to opening wider, but I'm not allowed to do it. The reference planes always move together, so that I'm stuck with a 3'-0" wide opening no matter what I do. I can't find any constraints linking the reference planes to each other or to a 3'-0" dimension - I can't find any constraints on them at all, in fact.
The file in question is attached. As I mentioned, the reference planes I'm concerned about are called "left" and "right". I have been able to move other reference planes in the file.
I have Maya 2012 Creation Suite x64 on Windows7, and just installed Hotfix 2.
PhysX has now disappeared, no plugin reference or shelf.
I've tried loading physx.mll manually, but reports missing procedures.
Also tried setting MAYA_PLUGIN_PATH to the nVidia Maya plugin directory, no luck.
What am I missing, and what did Hotfix 2 do?
