Maya Modeling :: How To Align Model To Image Plane

I am trying to align my model to my image plane. I marquee select the vertices but only the one in the front selects I have checked Back face culling and soft selections and made sure that they are not on but it is still not working.

In the "move" tool options, you can set the move manipulator to snap to a plane or to three points; is there an equivalent for rotations? Ultimately I'd like to select three points to establish a construction plane, then have an orthographic camera based on those three points. This way you can make a complex rotation based on some real coordinates. I think the old "Design Studio" used to have this function - you can take a polygon face, snap the plane right to it, and all your movements and rotations are exactly relative to that face.

I'm working with a polygon plane and I've moved the vertices on the edges to where I want them. Now I want to set all the non-edge (interior?) vertices equal distance apart from one another. Is there a function or an easier way to do this or do I have to do it manually?

1. I've never worked with nurbs before. I have made a nurbs plane, made it live, and drew some curves on it. Now, whenever I select the nurbs plane the curves are also selected. How do I delete only the nurbs plane without deleting the curves?

2. I am trying to make eyelashes using paintfx. How do I get the paintfx hair (the eyelashes brush) to orient themselves "onto" a surface, like in the attached image?

I am trying to create a flat plane that is on a diagonal. In Max I remember you could zero out using the scale tool with local space orientation. How do I do this in Maya?

In the enclosed image see red arrow. The back/bottom edge of the tail is supposed to be flat. How do I get all vertices to be in one plane?

I am trying to model a plane that will fit a specific pixel ratio (960x640, 800x480, 480x320, 240x240). So I know how to make a plane, that's not the problem, I just want to make the plane fit these aspect ratios without any stretching of the texture I will apply. So when I port this over to Unity I don't have any problems.

I need to model a cloth in Maya 2012 as a part of a college assignment. I have attached a jpeg of my pre-production artwork, in it you can see the yellow cloth placed on two wooden planks. At the moment I am modelling the cloth by adjusting the vertices, but find it to be a bit tedious. Is there any other way for me get effective results. I have a model which has already layouted uvs. I have to readjust small part of it in the modeling process. Soi deleated few faces and extruded new faces . When i want to automap the new part of the model nothing happens - in the uv texture editor there is simple square with 4 uvs although the faces of the new part is about 50 faces . Have a model of a camera that was made out of polys, whats the best way to boolean / engrave text onto the model? i tried tons of things, deleting history before boolean diff, combining the objects then extracting. Result is that it either doesnt work or deletes both my text and my object. I always try to boolean things in my model because i lack experience with creating and applying displacement maps.

How to achieve this using boolean diff or can they suggest what to use as reference to learn how to create displacement maps.

Maya :: Image Plane Disappears On Restart?

getting a weird problem. at first when I had 2 image planes (front and side) every time I saved my scene and restarted, they would both disappear from perspective view. but they were still showing in ortho view. I'd have to delete the image plane and make it again. after adding a back camera with its own image, saving and restarting: it started to have all of them show in perspective, but now front and side dont show in ortho.

edit:: the first issue happens in 2011. the second in 2012. back cam probably has nothing to do with it.

I am almost done with my model. He is in a naked state for the sake of making sure the anatomy is correct. I am preparing to rig, texture, and animate him. I plan on modeling the shirt and pants separate and use Maya's nCloth for those. I have also modeled glasses that are a completely separate mesh that will need to follow every movement of the head of my model.

Here is my issue, I am puzzled on how to model my shoes and socks.

1) Should i model them as part of the legs to eliminate further animation?
2) Should I model thee shoes and socks separate from the legs?

way to form a hierarchy where i can model everything individually and then make the main body rig a parent to everything secondary (shoes, socks, glasses, etc...)?

Maya Modeling :: Possible To Make Star Consisting Of Squares To Model A Bit Easier

I have got a problem by modeling a roof. The first picture attached shows it right at the moment. I want to keep the star one can see in the center of the picture but the edges look at bit problematic because it consist of 3 former independent cubes. The edges are shown in the second picture.

My question is if it is possible to make the star consist of squares to model it a bit easier. I use maya 2012 education.

I'm a beginner in Maya and have to model an object for college. I've modelled an iPhone 4 in Maya 2012 and I've added colour to it but i want to add an image to the screen face. I've added the image using lambert but the image is blown up and i don't know how to resize it. I've fiddled with the settings in '2d Texture Placement Attributes' but the only thing i've been able to do was rotate the image so it's not upside down, it's still blown up. Is there another editor window to resize it?

I've also tried using the UV Texture Editor but everything is a mess on top of eachother and everytime i move things around maya crashes . Is there any other way to add the image to the face?

For one of our project, we have a very precise scanner that picks 3 points on a material to generate a plane.

(First point is always (0,0,0))

On autocad, I have to align different object with this plane.

I'd like to know if there is a method to directly align object with this plane?

(I can easily have the normal to this plane, and other informations, if needed)

We already try to calculate angles and make a rotation, but it's not very accurate.
