Maya Modeling :: Camera Setting For Big Model?

View 1 RepliesI'm having trouble with getting my polygons to be the same sizes. My units are set to inches but for some reason when I build a cylinder it is way larger than the scale of a cube, even though the x,y,z inputs are identical.
The cube's measurements are: x 10 y 108 z 10, as are the cylinder. As you can see the cylinder is much larger.
I'm making a video for my geometry class where I will be making a cube with it's corners labeled. I would like to move the camera around during the video, but I also want the letters to always face the camera.

I have attached a jpeg of my pre-production artwork, in it you can see the yellow cloth placed on two wooden planks. At the moment I am modelling the cloth by adjusting the vertices, but find it to be a bit tedious. Is there any other way for me get effective results. Since I am a beginner I would like to know the the different ways a little in detail.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am using Maya 2012. I am doing a tutorial for Maya 2011. It is directing me to do some selecting and transformation to my mesh using camera based selection. The tutorial says:
1. double click the selection tool icon in the toolbox. the tool settings editor appears.
2. In the common selection options selection underneath marquee, turn on camera based selection.
3. Right mouse click the mesh and select vertex from the marking menu. The vertices appear on the mesh.
4. While looking at the front of the mesh, select the vertices that need to me moved by holding the left mouse button at one corner dragging a marquee selection over them. the vertices should be selected.
I selected the “turn on camera based selection” in the selection icon toolbox settings editor. But I can’t select the veritces using a left mouse click bounding box or by selecting the vertices individually. The vertices just won’t highlight or select. If I want to select I have to turn off the camera based selection.
I am working in meters.
I can not seem to select vertices that are "farther" from the camera.
If I scale the object down - I can start selecting multiple verts again.
While modeling I always take ref planes for modeling and texture projection. But while modeling I am facing a problem.
Let me tell the backdrop first I am modeling a female face from 5 image planes for which I have assigned 5 separate cams.
Now 4 of them r working fine but on of the image is coming in the way of the fifth cam.
Now I can easily put the object in layer or isolate etc but turning them on or off is a real pain in a** while modeling.
I have a model which has already layouted uvs. I have to readjust small part of it in the modeling process. Soi deleated few faces and extruded new faces . When i want to automap the new part of the model nothing happens - in the uv texture editor there is simple square with 4 uvs although the faces of the new part is about 50 faces . How to map this part ?

The model looks great in Maya, but how to create these slices or 2D views and print them.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy rotate tool in maya seems to be "locked" i can't freely rotate whenever i left click hold the center and it only rotates where my viewport is looking at so if im at the X axis I can't rotate the Z axis. Tried setting my preferences to default and nothing. I've also set my rotate tool to default.
Whenever I move my camera say to the Z axis the Z handle gets selected and same when I move the camera to the X axis.

Have a model of a camera that was made out of polys, whats the best way to boolean / engrave text onto the model? i tried tons of things, deleting history before boolean diff, combining the objects then extracting. Result is that it either doesnt work or deletes both my text and my object. I always try to boolean things in my model because i lack experience with creating and applying displacement maps.
How to achieve this using boolean diff or can they suggest what to use as reference to learn how to create displacement maps.
I'm modelling a complex curve for a fashion garment. I've always modelled in polygons in the past but have had more success on this project using nurbs, however I've got to a certain position and I'm wondering which way is the best way to model / create the next section of the garment(see image attached). Is it just the case of creating lots of section lines as lofting?

I don't need that, i just need to move the face or vertice alone not the whole image. View 5 Replies View RelatedNew when it comes to any kind of environment modeling, but I'm trying to make a simple landscape with grass and trees for a project.
I've got a nice ground plane and a simple grass plane with a texture applied from Photoshop. I was wondering if there is a way to paint instances of my grass object without manually duplicating and placing each individual blade of grass?
how to create cross sections without cutting up the model similar to applications like Autodesk Inventor? Maybe inserting a poly plane into the object and tell Maya to only render stuff in the normal direction of the plane if that is even possible?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am almost done with my model. He is in a naked state for the sake of making sure the anatomy is correct. I am preparing to rig, texture, and animate him. I plan on modeling the shirt and pants separate and use Maya's nCloth for those. I have also modeled glasses that are a completely separate mesh that will need to follow every movement of the head of my model.
Here is my issue, I am puzzled on how to model my shoes and socks.
1) Should i model them as part of the legs to eliminate further animation?
2) Should I model thee shoes and socks separate from the legs?
way to form a hierarchy where i can model everything individually and then make the main body rig a parent to everything secondary (shoes, socks, glasses, etc...)?
I have got a problem by modeling a roof. The first picture attached shows it right at the moment. I want to keep the star one can see in the center of the picture but the edges look at bit problematic because it consist of 3 former independent cubes. The edges are shown in the second picture.
My question is if it is possible to make the star consist of squares to model it a bit easier. I use maya 2012 education.
I've created a model of a monkey in Maya. The model is symmetric along the X axis - however, the UVs are not.
I've just gotten to the stage where I'm rigging my model and discovered that I'm missing polygons for a finger joint on both hands. I'd like to insert some edge loops for this extra joint. I could do this by just adding the loops by hand, but if I do that, they'll be a little bit off and my model will no longer be symmetric. Alternately, I could delete the right half of my model, add the loops on the left half, and then mirror and merge my geometry. This would preserve the symmetry, but completely destroy the UV info on the right half of my model.
This seems like it would be a common modeling problem. Does Maya have a way I can add the extra cuts to my model, preserve symmetry and not force me to redo the UVs and texture map for my entire model?
I want to mirror cut the models "selected" portion but it gives me result very far to it which is highlighted with red in the screenshot.
