View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm using Maya 2010. why this is happening, and how to fix it? I have a piece of polygonal geometry. I have confirmed all the culprit vertices are on the zero X axis.
But when I mirror it (-X), it collapses the 5 vertices at zero to a single vertex at the center, as shown in the "after" image:
Im having issues using the mirror function in the "move tool".I select mirror geometry with these options : -x, merge with original, and merge vertices.
This copies my model and allows me to adjust both sides of the model by selecting a single vertex on either side.
"Is there a way I can set Maya to also mirror my cut poly and smoother operations?" As it stands now, Only the vertex's that existed when i mirror geometry are visable on both halves.
Also my center vertices are not attached to each other. So when i try to apply smoothing to the entire model it smooths right through the center of the head, basically creating two halves. Both halves are registering as the same poly.
I use rhino 3d for a lot of my modeling and just recently been exploring 3ds max 2011, and I really like the mirror command in rhino because I can just click and mirror my object across a grid line, however in 3ds max the modifier is much more difficult to use in my opinion. If their are any former rhino users in the Area. way of using the mirror modifier to simulate the Rhino mirror command or even suggest another modifier that would preform in a similar manner as in rhino.

I was editing existing models in Blender before, so I already know more or less how to operate a program like this, and everything else can be covered with tutorials. But there's one thing I can't find a tutorial for...
Let me explain it on an example. I want to make a model of this sword:

The idea is that it's symmetrical and identical on both sides. I saw somewhere a video where a guy was somehow creating a model, and while he was working on one half, the other half was automatically updating and creating a perfectly symmetrical shape.
For this sword, I would be basically making only 1/4 of the sword, while the rest would be appropriately placed mirrors. I want this process of mirroring to happen automatically. How do I do that?
I try to make a mirror on a line.
I have put the pivot point in the 0 of the X axis. The pivot point are also align with the world orgin.
When I apply the Mirror Modifier, my new line are not in the same axis that the source line. I have try reset transform, etc...
I need to mirror a camera (it's a camera with aim). I can't move my geometry or mirror that, so I need to figure out if I can mirror the camera instead . Right now the aim is in the center of my object, and the camera is looking at the object from a front left 3/4 view.
I need it to be looking at the front right 3/4 view. I've tried scaling with a -1 but that didn't flip it, as it normally does the geometry.

but i cant find the way to mirror this Locator to the other side for the other eye.i try with Duplicate special, -x but it does it on its own, the only different is the scale is -X but didn't move from the original position, and the 2 are overlap.
how do i mirror / duplicate the Locator to the other side?
I decided to model an industrial iron caster wheel with polyurethane tread, and all went well. Tonight I added three ribs to one side of the caster wheel, which looks great, but I would rather not repeat the process on the other side because of all the fillets and such which would have to be repeated.
Is it possible to split the wheel down the middle and then mirror the side with the ribs? I saw that I can split the model with a plane, but I can't figure out how to remove the geometry on the left side of the plane.
I would like to design the table from the image. I am having some problems giving thickness to the snail shell. I extruded it (wasn't that pleased with the result but... it was better than nothing) and tried to smooth it. The result was a horror because there were to many edges and maya took them as a height difference.
My question is:
1. How can i make the thickness better, without all the holes? (can i create edges between vertices)
2. How can i smooth the poly without making it look like a shell covered inside with spikes.
I need to model a cloth in Maya 2012 as a part of a college assignment. I have attached a jpeg of my pre-production artwork, in it you can see the yellow cloth placed on two wooden planks. At the moment I am modelling the cloth by adjusting the vertices, but find it to be a bit tedious. Is there any other way for me get effective results. Since I am a beginner I would like to know the the different ways a little in detail.

When i want to automap the new part of the model nothing happens - in the uv texture editor there is simple square with 4 uvs although the faces of the new part is about 50 faces . Have a model of a camera that was made out of polys, whats the best way to boolean / engrave text onto the model? i tried tons of things, deleting history before boolean diff, combining the objects then extracting. Result is that it either doesnt work or deletes both my text and my object. I always try to boolean things in my model because i lack experience with creating and applying displacement maps.
How to achieve this using boolean diff or can they suggest what to use as reference to learn how to create displacement maps.
I'm modelling a complex curve for a fashion garment. I've always modelled in polygons in the past but have had more success on this project using nurbs, however I've got to a certain position and I'm wondering which way is the best way to model / create the next section of the garment(see image attached). Is it just the case of creating lots of section lines as lofting?
