View 2 RepliesI am trying to align my model to my image plane. I marquee select the vertices but only the one in the front selects I have checked Back face culling and soft selections and made sure that they are not on but it is still not working.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIn the "move" tool options, you can set the move manipulator to snap to a plane or to three points; is there an equivalent for rotations? Ultimately I'd like to select three points to establish a construction plane, then have an orthographic camera based on those three points. This way you can make a complex rotation based on some real coordinates. I think the old "Design Studio" used to have this function - you can take a polygon face, snap the plane right to it, and all your movements and rotations are exactly relative to that face.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm working with a polygon plane and I've moved the vertices on the edges to where I want them. Now I want to set all the non-edge (interior?) vertices equal distance apart from one another. Is there a function or an easier way to do this or do I have to do it manually?

2. I am trying to make eyelashes using paintfx. How do I get the paintfx hair (the eyelashes brush) to orient themselves "onto" a surface, like in the attached image?
I am trying to create a flat plane that is on a diagonal. In Max I remember you could zero out using the scale tool with local space orientation. How do I do this in Maya?
In the enclosed image see red arrow. The back/bottom edge of the tail is supposed to be flat. How do I get all vertices to be in one plane?
I'm using Maya 2013, and any time when I would like to import an image to my workspace, an error show up on the bottom right corner:

I created a new scene, added the image planes. But now I cannot move them, it's all gray.
View 1 Replies View Relatedgetting a weird problem. at first when I had 2 image planes (front and side) every time I saved my scene and restarted, they would both disappear from perspective view. but they were still showing in ortho view. I'd have to delete the image plane and make it again. after adding a back camera with its own image, saving and restarting: it started to have all of them show in perspective, but now front and side dont show in ortho.
edit:: the first issue happens in 2011. the second in 2012. back cam probably has nothing to do with it.
when i use my move tool n select my reference image the image don't move but the i think camera or shape of image moves , i want to move my reference image.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm a beginner in Maya and have to model an object for college. I've modelled an iPhone 4 in Maya 2012 and I've added colour to it but i want to add an image to the screen face. I've added the image using lambert but the image is blown up and i don't know how to resize it. I've fiddled with the settings in '2d Texture Placement Attributes' but the only thing i've been able to do was rotate the image so it's not upside down, it's still blown up. Is there another editor window to resize it?
I've also tried using the UV Texture Editor but everything is a mess on top of eachother and everytime i move things around maya crashes . Is there any other way to add the image to the face?
I am using imported Raster images in Revit Architecture 2010 to trace and I need to make them unselectable. I know that I can 'Pin' them so I cannot move them, but I need to keep from actually selecting them. I thought I could use Design Options, but Raster images cannot be moved from the Main Model and thus remain selectable.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI’m a 3DS Max transfer. In 3DS Max there is an option to open an image file for modeling reference in a separate window within Max which always stays on top. This is NOT an image plane to model off of but an IMAGE FILE, a picture i can get the details from that don’t show in a drawing or plane. Currently I open images or groups of images(NOT SEQUENCES) in the default OS file viewer program. This is fine with a dual monitor setup, where I throw the reference images to the other screen. But what about when I’m on my laptop on the go or have no other monitor? Currently I’d have to open the same program, have it underneath MAYA and flip back and forth, which is a very big hassle over time. I’d like to be able to open a small, resizable window WITHIN maya and view the image file(or files!) there so I can move it around my workspace and glance over to it in an instant.
I still want my four panels or all of my panel space to work with. With it being resizable i can even shrink it down to get the gist in the upper right corner where no icons are even zoom in on parts with such a small window.
I'm using ACAD 2013, and for the first time since I installed it a month or so ago, I opened AutoTrack (by mistake). Now whenever I double click an AutoCAD file, it will automatically open in in AutoTrack, unless I open AutoCAD and open the file that way. It may be a coincidence, but my viewcube has just stopped working, and has become a static, unselectable image - like a fuzzy stamp on my drawing. I can't click or right click on it, and when I zoom, it doesn't stay in the same place at the same size, like it's supposed to.
This was happening when I was using 2012 too, but stopped after I installed 2013. As I said, it has just started up again after I opened AutoTrack by mistake.
I would like to design the table from the image. I am having some problems giving thickness to the snail shell. I extruded it (wasn't that pleased with the result but... it was better than nothing) and tried to smooth it. The result was a horror because there were to many edges and maya took them as a height difference.
My question is:
1. How can i make the thickness better, without all the holes? (can i create edges between vertices)
2. How can i smooth the poly without making it look like a shell covered inside with spikes.
I have a image plane. I would like to move the image of the plane in animation. It looks out then masking. I need only some parts of the image in frame one, and I need other parts of the image on frame 100. The plane isn't moving, only the image is moving in the box.

I have created an NURBS sphere and I want to adjust it to the arm, so I go to the component mode add some isosparms and then it happens!!! I can´t move any vertexes... but in the object mode I can move the hole object.

I have just got Autodesk 3DS Max 2014...I have started off trying some blueprints but can't seem to work out about bitmap and texturing the planes Basically I have made the plane the same dimensions of the image, but it either tiles the image a lot or has a very small size.Is there any way to fix this without changing the size of U & V.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm working on a complex closed object shape originally made from a plane and want to do Boolean to it.
So when a plane get Boolean-ed with a sphere, it just turns to plane with a hole. Different when a standard box get Boolean-ed with a sphere, it turns into a box with a 1/2 sphere hole.
My question is, is it possible to turns a plane into solid 3D objects like box, sphere,etc..? So it's able to get Boolean-ed correctly?

p.s. the box and the box-ed plane is an editable poly
Is it possible to slice one poly with another poly?

Not sure if the following would be the reasons: Recently I have tried to open files related the Maya sample file (tutorial disk)but I can't open it directly from the CD. I noticed that there might be some tricks that I have to same the file as an ASCI file and the open in Wordpad, then I could successfully open that. So I try to copy the Tutorial files in the CD to my Harddrive. When I open that from Wordpad, it works!. I am not sure if that could be the causes of my proble (ie. Plane/Grid disappear), or I might have done something which I am not aware of? Also, those axis arrows seems so long and I need to adjust that (I mean the arrows extend outside the Plane/Grid).
I am trying to model a plane that will fit a specific pixel ratio (960x640, 800x480, 480x320, 240x240). So I know how to make a plane, that's not the problem, I just want to make the plane fit these aspect ratios without any stretching of the texture I will apply. So when I port this over to Unity I don't have any problems.
View 4 Replies View Relateda few things involving cameras. My assignment was to use our plane that we modeled with poly's and animate it on a motion path(used cv curve tool) and have a camera above it follow it. Now I got that down perfect.
But what I don't have a clue on, is how do I attach a camera on the same motion path as the plane and have a camera angle right behind the spinning propeller? Like a cockpit view.
I have a bunch of curves that is going to drive nhair. However I'd like to use the "soft modification tool" to do further adjustments to the curves. But I'd want to pin the root of the curves so it doesn't fly off the head when I use soft modification. Is there any way I can lock or pin the root CV of the curve? (its a cubic nurbs curve)

I am using maya 2013 on windows OS.

Now the only thing I want to do is to cut out this:

I used the Extrude tool just for visualization. The problem is, working with booleans apparently doesn't work for such objects, it works for freshly created clean polygons, but not for this one, when I try to use "Boolean difference" both objects disappear.
Extruding doesn't work because the faces are still there and I cannot delete them for whatever reason:

My cursor is pointing on the little face, but both are being highlighted. Making a hole through the the "Make a hole" function doesn't work because it only deletes faces as it seems.
i have been having problems with maya where i can't select individual faces vertices or anythign other than the entire model
View 8 Replies View RelatedMy model loses lambert on only certain faces every so often. Might be related to clicking on camera or trying to extrude certain edges. I want to delete the camera but this happens to the model every time i touch the camera. I can't reapply the lambert by pressing 6 or assigning new material. if you know what's happening.
