3ds Max Modeling :: Bind Plane Object To Displaced Mesh
Feb 6, 2011I have a plane object which I want to bind to a displaced mesh but I'm unable to figure out how to do it.

View 3 RepliesMy mesher from particle system has trashed the material ID's from the particles. Is there a way to use mesher compound object while keeping the material ID's.
Also mesher object seem to crash Vray. It'll render in scanline, but again the ID's are gone.
I have problem when i duplicate polygon another side of model. The object is not smooth, it look like different model. I try to "combine" and "mesh" vertex from middle of object. but it still same. The polygon will smooth if i use "smooth tool". But i need low polygon for transfer map from high polygon to low polygon. but it not work, because low polygon look like different model.
I need smooth low polygon, but not to much smooth. I need only when i duplicate polygon, it not look like different model is okay.
Is there a way to select only visible edges on an Editable Mesh object?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm just trying to learn the very basics of making a simple character. When I paint on any polygon shape, the same paint stroke is painted on all the polygon shapes of my character. What i've noticed though is if I separate the polygon meshes I can paint on them separately, but then that makes it impossible for me to bind the skeleton of the character to the skin.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI understand a bit about using booleans to cut shapes out of a mesh, but how can i use vector shapes I created to cut a custom shape from a plane (for example)??

If not using vectors, another way to cut shapes from mesh?
I have just got Autodesk 3DS Max 2014...I have started off trying some blueprints but can't seem to work out about bitmap and texturing the planes Basically I have made the plane the same dimensions of the image, but it either tiles the image a lot or has a very small size.Is there any way to fix this without changing the size of U & V.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm working on a complex closed object shape originally made from a plane and want to do Boolean to it.
So when a plane get Boolean-ed with a sphere, it just turns to plane with a hole. Different when a standard box get Boolean-ed with a sphere, it turns into a box with a 1/2 sphere hole.
My question is, is it possible to turns a plane into solid 3D objects like box, sphere,etc..? So it's able to get Boolean-ed correctly?
I add a picture of simpler analogy
p.s. the box and the box-ed plane is an editable poly
Is it possible to slice one poly with another poly?
For example, the attachments shows a plane intersecting a cylinder. How would I slice the cylinder with the plane?
In the "move" tool options, you can set the move manipulator to snap to a plane or to three points; is there an equivalent for rotations? Ultimately I'd like to select three points to establish a construction plane, then have an orthographic camera based on those three points. This way you can make a complex rotation based on some real coordinates. I think the old "Design Studio" used to have this function - you can take a polygon face, snap the plane right to it, and all your movements and rotations are exactly relative to that face.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there an easy ways to clean up a mesh so that its easy to skin ? i am working with the mvu default mesh. someone told i have to remake my own body then redo the uvw map to match. Unfortunately i don't have the skills to do that currently.
My end goal is to increase the poly count so that my clothing look smooth and still be able to skin it easily. Mesh smooth just causes more problems.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm missing a shrink tool or modifier which can shrink a mesh. I don't want to scale it down because it's preserving the proportions but that is not what I propose to do.
The Shell modifier for example extrudes the polygons along their local normals. This in reverse I'm trying to do.
Think about a banana and you will get a copy of it in a smaller and thinner way because you have modelled the shell of the banana but not the flesh in it. I think that explains the difference between shrinking and scaling.
I would like to move two different vertex, from different mesh, at the same place. I thought maybe I could put a guide or a landmark to the position I want the vertexes to be. I can't find anything about guides in 3ds max

I need to tile the mesh so that I can apply each piece to a separate terrain tile in the Unity game engine.I'm working in meters so I guess just importing the mesh and converting to meters on input would set up the mesh extents correctly. The mesh will be square covering the entire world extents. How do I set up a grid and slice the mesh precisely along that grid? Are there any methods in Max, or any scripts? It would also useful if I could scale the mesh in the Y (height) axis to change the span. How to do that?In addition, I need to delete parts of the mesh. The triangles will always be along the same plane- for eg, any triangle on the plane in the pic. Is that possible? I don't mind editing manually, but I'm wondering if there's a more quick way to do it.

So when I port this over to Unity I don't have any problems.
