Maya :: Image Plane Error

I'm using Maya 2013, and any time when I would like to import an image to my workspace, an error show up on the bottom right corner:

getting a weird problem. at first when I had 2 image planes (front and side) every time I saved my scene and restarted, they would both disappear from perspective view. but they were still showing in ortho view. I'd have to delete the image plane and make it again. after adding a back camera with its own image, saving and restarting: it started to have all of them show in perspective, but now front and side dont show in ortho.
edit:: the first issue happens in 2011. the second in 2012. back cam probably has nothing to do with it.

I am trying to align my model to my image plane. I marquee select the vertices but only the one in the front selects I have checked Back face culling and soft selections and made sure that they are not on but it is still not working.

I have a image plane. I would like to move the image of the plane in animation. It looks out then masking. I need only some parts of the image in frame one, and I need other parts of the image on frame 100. The plane isn't moving, only the image is moving in the box.

Why the Plane disappear when open New Scene? I try to adjust the Near Clip under Camera, it works but what could have made this happen (I mean Plane/Grid suddenly disappear?)
Not sure if the following would be the reasons: Recently I have tried to open files related the Maya sample file (tutorial disk)but I can't open it directly from the CD. I noticed that there might be some tricks that I have to same the file as an ASCI file and the open in Wordpad, then I could successfully open that. So I try to copy the Tutorial files in the CD to my Harddrive. When I open that from Wordpad, it works!. I am not sure if that could be the causes of my proble (ie. Plane/Grid disappear), or I might have done something which I am not aware of? Also, those axis arrows seems so long and I need to adjust that (I mean the arrows extend outside the Plane/Grid).

In the "move" tool options, you can set the move manipulator to snap to a plane or to three points; is there an equivalent for rotations? Ultimately I'd like to select three points to establish a construction plane, then have an orthographic camera based on those three points. This way you can make a complex rotation based on some real coordinates. I think the old "Design Studio" used to have this function - you can take a polygon face, snap the plane right to it, and all your movements and rotations are exactly relative to that face.

I'm working with a polygon plane and I've moved the vertices on the edges to where I want them. Now I want to set all the non-edge (interior?) vertices equal distance apart from one another. Is there a function or an easier way to do this or do I have to do it manually?

1. I've never worked with nurbs before. I have made a nurbs plane, made it live, and drew some curves on it. Now, whenever I select the nurbs plane the curves are also selected. How do I delete only the nurbs plane without deleting the curves?
2. I am trying to make eyelashes using paintfx. How do I get the paintfx hair (the eyelashes brush) to orient themselves "onto" a surface, like in the attached image?

I am trying to create a flat plane that is on a diagonal. In Max I remember you could zero out using the scale tool with local space orientation. How do I do this in Maya?
In the enclosed image see red arrow. The back/bottom edge of the tail is supposed to be flat. How do I get all vertices to be in one plane?

a few things involving cameras. My assignment was to use our plane that we modeled with poly's and animate it on a motion path(used cv curve tool) and have a camera above it follow it. Now I got that down perfect.
But what I don't have a clue on, is how do I attach a camera on the same motion path as the plane and have a camera angle right behind the spinning propeller? Like a cockpit view.

It appears when we attempt to open the file then C3D crashes.
Modeling Operation error: Attempt to evaluate a plane with zero normal.
One of my users got this error in a drawing with about 8-10 fairly complex grading objects in it. I had told him not to leave them as grading objects but he was convinced he could make it work.

Panning / dollying the camera, the image plane is still trying to maintain a 'forward' looking view to the camera. I would like to lock the talent / image plane so that when I do a camera move, the talent is 'sticking' to the virtual news room I have used.

I have added an image plane to an existing newsroom set. I would like to 'lock' the image plane to the camera so that it doesn't 'slide' when panning/moving the camera. Like a corner pin per se.

I am new to 3ds Max and trying to teach myself using a tutorial book - Mastering Autodesk 3ds Max Design 2011, however I am using 2012 version.
I am on a step where it is explaining how to assign a bitmap image onto a plane, however, I cannot get the image to show up.
I create my plane add the image to the diffuse map deselect real-world scale option change the tiling value for U V to 1 and deselect tiling for both
select the plane I want to add the image to click the assign material to selection button (I dont see anything change at this point) Then the final step it says to click the "show standard map in viewport button" - I cannot locate this button within the material editor... there is a grayed out "put material to scene" a "show shaded material in viewport" ??? neither seems to do anything?

I just downloaded 2013, and I am trying to learn how to use it through a book to work with my future school designs. I, of course, have little assignments to do to learn how to work the basics of this program. I am at the point where I am creating a bitmap image onto a plane. I worked it the book's way, and the selected plane did not change to the image I chose; it remained a gray color. I then looked up tutorials online and have the same results. The material editor is changing, but not in the viewport.

I am getting some crazy normals when I try to import an FBX file. The meshes I'm trying to bring in end up looking disjointed. I can go through and manually delete each polygon and then fill in the hole, and it looks fine, but I certainly don't want to have to do that for thousands of polygons in each model. I've had this happen with every FBX I've tried to import. How I can make these look smooth again? I've attached a picture to show what I mean.
I've tried re-creating the UVs with planar and automatic mapping, but it didn't work.

I seem to be having many, many problems in Maya 2012.Simple things like opening the plugin manager window, changing the camera, opening hypershade, and assigning materials seem torefuse to work, and give me errors such as
// Error: initializePlugin function failed (stereoCamera)
and
// .
Error: Object's name 'PluginRowColLyt1' is not unique
This is a clean install of Maya 2012 on Windows 7 64-bit, with no previous versions having ever been installed on here.
I've tried reinstalling it multiple times, and the issues still persist. I've also tried reinstalling Python multiple times.

I am trying to load Bullet plugin in Maya2013 on Ubuntu. I got this error when I try to do so:
# Error: file: /usr/autodesk/maya2013-x64/scripts/startup/bulletInitUI.mel line 29: ImportError: file /usr/autodesk/maya2013-x64/lib/python26.zip/hashlib.py line 63: No module named _md5 #
Searching on web I find out that similar happened with PyMel but solutions from there do not work. I see that libssl and libcrypto are already in Maya lib folder, symlinked from support folder. How can I find out what exactly is missing here, or what is Maya (Bullet) compiled with so I can fix this?

I was following a tut on how to create text and all was working well then I decided to delete my text from the viewing panel and start again and now I cannot create any text because I get this message - / Error: bevelPlus3 (Bevel Plus): Group 2 curve 2 is not inside the previous curve. Group these curves appropriately in Adobe (R) Illustrator (R)
What does this mean?? Im not even using illustrator! If I delete the word and write another one it seems to be ok but if I want to create my original word I get the same message again? Also the text doesn't look very good, some of the letters are sort of squashed or rubbing on others or the hollow parts missing etc.

I have a student license for Autodesk Maya 2012 (I'll need it for school), but whenever I try and start up the setup, I get this weird message:
error 1321. The installer has insufficient privileges to modify the file C:Program FilesAutodeskMaya2012PYTHON_LICENSE
Then the following message:
Fatal error during installation. #229: failed to run AdskExecuteSequence
Then "Failed to initialize Autodesk Maya 2012"
And then it the installation exits itself out.
I have a 32bit Windows computer.
