Maya Modeling :: How To Change Size Of Move / Scale Tool Arrows
Jun 10, 2011I know there is a way to change the size of the arrows, I already did it and made them bigger and I forget how to make them small again...

View 1 Replieswhen modeling the movement or scale tool is so small I find it difficult to grab one of the arrows without super zooming in and moving the camera around alot.
is there a way to set a larger size?
So a friend created a model using zbrush and exported several different *.OBJ files. I imported those to maya and added shaders. They all fit correctly together when imported.
some of those obj files required me to do a mesh->combine. so now it appears that not every item has the same reference point so that when I move or scale the entire item, some of the objects move seperately. I think it is only the ones I had to combine.
I tried freeze transformations, but when doing that, some of the objects lost their scale settings and still didnt move together as one unit.
When I try and scale anything, I hit the hotkey R and the 3 manipulators appear. No matter what I click on, X,Y,Z,or center, when I move my mouse I get an "automatic" jump increasing the size. I can't seem to get it to do anything but these staged jumps in size. I cannot scale anything down, unless I use the universal manipulator tool. So, for example, if I want to scale a size 2 sphere to a size .8, I would have to use the universal manipulator and Shift-click on one of the matrix corners and that will allow a uniform scaling. I realize that I can always enter the scaling amount in the Channel or Attribute box field, but it may be that I'm trying to visually scale something and entering numbers isn't exactly the best way.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have imported a model from C4D using the FBX importer, and everything was fine, except that it was way to big. I scaled it down to a more "manageable" size. So the scale reads 0.01 (All axis).
My question is, is there any way I can make Scale reflect the actual object size? Maya know these numbers, because they are present when using the universal manipulator tool. I would like it if the scene scale could reflect the real size of the object. So if i create a new object, the size relates to the size of the existing objects in the scene?
Can i put the real scale on the object, and then just "downscale the scene", so that the objects don`t appear giant? Like scene scale or something?
I have just imported an FBX file fron sketchup, the manipulator handles for move, scale and rotate are really far away from the model, how can I move the handles so that it is in the centre of the model?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to change the display size of the local rotation axis?
I'm trying to visually align the local rotation axis for joints with geometry that isn't always world axis aligned. I've searched on different forums as well as searches on "topeka" (google ), and I've come up with nothing so far.
how can I scale an object along two axes? For example along x and z axes, because if I use the scale tool I can only scale along one axis or x, y and z axes at the same time.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm creating a face, but what I want is to have whatever happens on the right to happen on the left, instead of clicking each point to move the edges. I tried just cutting the face in half and duplicating, but I don't know how to flip second copy.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm sure I have accidently set some mode that does this, but when I select a face and do a move function, the entire object moves instead of just that 1 face.
The entire object turns yellow when selected, or yellow/red depending on the size/shape.
To get from the first to the second picture I used the scale tool on the selected points and scaled manually with the mouse. This however is inexact as I'm eying it. How do you exaclty scale the z and y values?
View 4 Replies View Relatedi was creating a simple character(blobs withen blobs). It was going pretty good until i camme across an issue that i can't seem to fix. I first had his neck as a nurb but i realized to do what i wanted i would need to deleted a couple faces so simple create a polygon the same size and shape. So i draged the nurb over clicked create polygon and i made it. The issues was that i can not seem to get them the same size i went to the channel box and typed in the same numbers for size. It was similiar but, was off the entire object was too big. I tried extruding it to match the same rough height and i got that nurb was on a scale that was about 1.626 times larger this. I forgot to mention that i am running maya 2014 student edition.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWe are just trying out Maya on the OSX Platform.
In the tutorial that we are going through, we are asked to select 2 curves, center the pivot point, and then hit the 'Insert' key to allow us to move the pivot point, and then holding down the 'C' key we should be able to move the pivot point along the curve.
Looking around we found that if you hit the 'fn + left arrow' keys you are meant to get the same as using the 'insert' key on the PC, but this is not right, and also when you try to hold down the 'C' key it does not allow the pivot point to be constrained to the curve.
So where is the 'Insert' key on the Mac?
when i use my move tool n select my reference image the image don't move but the i think camera or shape of image moves , i want to move my reference image.

I am wondering on how to correct the pinched edge at the top of the model
so in the texture editor. as far as i know we can only move the verts around (with F12). we can select edges, to see where they relate on the mesh, but we can't move them. is there any way to move edges of the layout??
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo, when in object mode, I can manually input numbers to translate, rotate, and scale an object - either in the channel box, or in the attribute editor.
But what about subobjects (components) like verts, faces, and edges?
Sure I can move em around with the manipulator, but where can I manually enter in precise numbers?
I have a subdivided plane that I wish to scale horizontally to match another objects dimensions. In cinema 4d I can check an objects width and then just put that number into the other object width input.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trying to model the following simple structure:
I made this example by creating a new polygonal cylinder, rotating the top edges that are to the right of the x-axis and repositioning the affected vertices afterwards, but doing it that way just doesnt feel right, it seems too unclean to me.
I would like the affected vertices to only move on a given axis when rotating the edges, so I dont need to reposition them after the rotate operation. I tried to illustrate what I mean in the following screenshot:
The edges I want to rotate are marked in red, the vertices that are supposed to only move on the y-axis are marked in green. The arrows indicate the desired movement.
Is this way of rotating an edge possible with the rotate tool or something?
My rotate tool in maya seems to be "locked" i can't freely rotate whenever i left click hold the center and it only rotates where my viewport is looking at so if im at the X axis I can't rotate the Z axis. Tried setting my preferences to default and nothing. I've also set my rotate tool to default.
Whenever I move my camera say to the Z axis the Z handle gets selected and same when I move the camera to the X axis.
I've created the german battleship Tirpitz. It has about 4.2 million polygons. When i save the file as an ASCII its about 1.2 GB and when I save it as a Bin its about 650 MB. I created the scene in 3DS Max where it has a file size of about 430 MB
My question is: Can I somehow shrink the size of the file without using a zip program.
Im a maya user since 3 or 4 months. Distance between tool for rigging which i cant find in maya 2013.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just downloaded Maya 2012. The rotation tool only rotates an object on the y axis. For some reason, when I grab the X or Z axis, it will still only rotate on the Y axis. How do I fix this?

Going thru the Getting Started tutorial. When I started doing the "Drawing a Polygon" lesson everything was cool 'til I tried to extrude the bottom part of the helmet. I select Edit Mesh> Extrude, but the extrude arrow/handles don't show up on the polygon. I tried to Modify the Tranformation Tools, but as you can see in the screen shot, there isn't really anything to modify. Tried to reset it. Nothing. Tried to go in the Preferences, but I don't know what to set, if anything. I tried to turn of the Construction History, but I don't even see that icon. Tried to reinstall Maya. No improvement.
i was trying to model a character in Maya and somehow messed up the pivot. The handle stretch beyond the horizon in the scale and move tool, and for the rotate one i can't see the circle no matter how far i zoom out.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to get use to it.But I just have the problem that somehow the axis are all very small.
Like the axis when I want to move, rotate, scale,... sth.
And the size stays, no matter if I dolly, therefore it's sometimes difficult to click the right axis.
I'm trying to use the Create Polygon tool. My problem is that when I click to create a polygon I don't see anything. I can keep clicking and clicking to create points, which it apparently IS creating, but I don't see anything until I switch through one of the View types (wire frame, shaded, etc.).
I know I'm supposed to see the verts the second I click but that's not what I'm getting, it's more like I need to just go through the motions of blindly creating my shape, change views, and then edit the resulting verts and edges later.
I just tried out to trim two NURBS-Objects (e.g. 2 Spheres), but nothing happens. If i select both spheres and go to "Edit NURBS -> Trim Tool" => NOTHING or also if i try to use Trim Tool (without any Object selected), i'am not able to select a NURBS-Object.
I've used the Trim-Tool very often, but now it's not working anymore.
I could not solve with this tool: Interactive Split Tool. I select edges that normally want to cut.
