3ds Max Modeling :: How To Make Reference Images Not Pixelated

Aug 26, 2013

I am trying to use a reference image on a plane in 3ds Max but everything comes out Blurry and pixelated.  I have tried the Customize...Preferences... Viewports option but the Configure driver is greyed out. it says ''Nitrous (direct 3d) 11.0 feature level 11 - ATI Radeon HD 5700'' next to Configure Driver.. (greyed out)

What can i do to make reference images not pixelated? and transparency on boxes and polygons is extremely buggy (i can only see 2% through it when alt+x)

3ds Max :: Using Reference Images For Modeling

Oct 22, 2012

I'm very new to the world of 3d modeling, how to use 3Ds Max for creating 3D models with the intention of 3D printing the final design.

I am a HUGE fan of the Transformers Movie verse and I really want to make a 3D model of "Bumblebee" one of the characters that appears in it. There are a large number of 3D models of this character out there, but my intention is to recreate him in very first appearance in the 1st Movie.I wanted to make this figure as close and accurate as possible to the movie,so I scoured the net to look for reference pictures and was finally very lucky to find some of the original design sketches.

the images I have found are not like this, and I am not so confident that I could draw them in the correct perspective and scale as needed. Is it absolutely necessary or can I work around this?

Maya Modeling :: Importing Reference Images

Feb 16, 2011

i'm new in autodesk maya's world, so i'm having some problems with it, my class is working in a 3d dragon, we started with dragon's body, but, now, we are working in its head, so i started importing images into the viewport, but i cannot move them well, because there's a kind of ghost image with them (i put two images, and there's a ghost image for each one) and when i put them in perspective view to see where i want, they often desappear, and i cannot work with them, i tried deleting history by type, and center each one's pivot, but it didn't work.

3ds Max Modeling :: How To Make 3D Robotic Faces From 2D Images

Jan 3, 2014

I have a 3D scanner where I can scan an solid object, & sometimes reverse engineer the object that I am looking at. 1 function that the old FaceGen used to be able to do is make a 2 dimensional object into a 3D wireframe, but I am not sure if it is able to do robotic faces. I am thinking of doing Transformer-like figures where the faces are a mix of smooth & angular vertices. If I were to plug in some of the flat 2D images that I have, I think that it would give me an ‘error message.’

- My 1st question is I was wondering if you had any CAD software that would be able to take a flat image of a face, & make it into a 3D image

- Or even able to take a pre-existing mesh, & warp it’s values to match a 2D face pattern that I have in mind.

- 1 option that 1 of the older forms of FaceGen was able to do, is to give you variations of a pre-existing face. And I am not talking about taking a 3D mesh & turning it from male to female, race to race, young to old, but different ‘versions’ of that face. 1 thing that they did with a lot of Transformers is that they recycled the same body type, & just repainted the figure to a different paint scheme, & making them into a new character. The Decepticon jets were a good example of that. 1 thing that I am thinking of doing is taking a scan of a pre-existing face, & alternating the facial values to generate different face plates so that each figure has a new face to distinguish them from 1 to the next.

3ds Max Modeling :: Terrain From Reference Image

Jan 25, 2011

so I am trying to figure out how best to create the terrain for this mine site. I thought maybe I could do this with vue, but it proved to be very difficult. I was thinking of using contour lines but that in itself can be messy with some very ugly triangulation. I posed a picture of what it is I am trying to atchive.

I am so new to photoshop I just stare at it blankly. Can you offer some help on how to make the image not so choppy when I have to scale it down and print it. It looks great from far away, but when you actually go to read the thing , I am sure everyone will be " oh, obviously from the computer"

Photoshop :: Pixelated Images

Jul 22, 2008

I recently encountered a problem that I am sure could be corrected if I were more experienced.

I am building a website using Dreamweaver. I adjust my photos for size In Photoshop Cs3 of course. I then save them for the web on a transparent background as a gif. When I view my image in Dreamweaver the edge of the image appear pixelated (sort of a white aoutline)
I would like to feather some of my images but when I save them and then include them in my webpage the feathered edge is visible as a white outline shadow. The images are fine otherwise.

This also happens if I add a layer style to text such as bevel. The bevel area appears as a large white outline.

I am sure there is a setting I am not aware of. Should I have a specific setting when I save the images for the web?

Maya Modeling :: Creating Reference Point Or Locator For Group?

Jul 26, 2012

I was wondering if there is a way to create a group of vertices, edges or faces and somehow create a reference point or attach them to some kind of locator so they can be referenced at a later point. I want to be able to select a group of edges, model them and then move on to another task within Maya and have some kind of reference point so I can go back to the original group and not have to select them individually every time I want to work on that group of edges, faces or vertices, is this possible? I will post a picture shortly to this post so you can see an example of a specific group of edges that I would like to set a reference point or locater for.

Photoshop :: When Adding A Tween - Images Become Pixelated

Nov 8, 2013

I've used timline/animation in Photoshop for awhile, but just noticed, when I add tweens between two images, the original images become pixelated when I save as animated GIFs.

Test #1 Photoshop file with two layers -- each with a photographTimeline: frame 1 has image from layer 1 and frame 2 has image from layer 2Choose Save For Web and the images look pretty goodI realize that GIFs are only 256 colors

Test #2 Create Photshop files as in Test #1Add a tween with 1 frameChoose Save For Web and the images look pretty good

Test #3Create Photshop files as in Test #1Add a tween with more than one frameChoose Save For WebThe images are now pixelatedTrash...All but one tween and an image is no longer pixelated, ORAll tweens and an image is no longer pixelated  In other words, Saving For Web is fine as long as I don't add any tweens. As soon as I do, the images become pixelated. Take out the tweens, the pixelation goes away. And, I have tried to make all kinds of adjustments to the GIFs.

VideoStudio :: Pixelated Images On Timeline And When Rendered

Some photos both with and without mask's appear pixelated both on the time line and when rendered. The file format for the photos are Jpeg and range from 1.85MB to 60MB in size and have no pixelation. In preferences i have in the image section both "anti-flickering" and "Cache image" checked. I have also tried the photos in the first time line and still are not clear.

VideoStudio :: Pro X5 - JPEG Images Pixelated In Playback And DVD

Nov 30, 2012

I'm trying to accomplish the most basic task in VideoStudio Pro x5--making a slideshow with still images and burning that project to DVD. Prior to starting, I decided to do a "screen test". I scanned 3 photographs of varying quality. 2 are professional studio photos that are 3.5" x 5" and one is a candid shot that's a bit grainy at 3.5"x4.5". I scanned all of them with my Epson Perfection V300 to JPEG at 300, 600 and 1200dpi each. I then took the 3 versions of the three images and placed them in the timeline as still photos and then again with a pan/zoom. I noticed a slight difference between the actual photos and the photos when played in the timeline. However, once burned to DVD and watched on my Sony 40" BX42 LCD, the images are pixelated much worse than appears in the timeline. However, the same photographs are much more acceptable once a pan/zoom is placed on them.

For example, one picture I used is 300 dpi (900x1356,1356 height, 24 bitdepth, .99mb).
Resampling Option: Keep Aspect Ratio
Project settingS are Burn to DVD
24 bits 720x480, 29.97fps
upper field first
dvd-ntsc, 16:9
variable video data rate
encoding mode base line

The above example looks pixelated on DVD, but not as pixelated when pan/zoom is added. The 600dpi (1787x2712, 3.78mb) version of the same photo is not as pixelated as the example, but not as clear as the timeline view or the actual image.

I did the exact same screen test in Pinnacle Studio 11 and received better overall results. I can do a basic slideshow? My images are being scanned with a decent quality scanner and look far superior than what I'm seeing once the images have gone through VideStudio. I'm not looking for exteme detail or expecting HD from a DVD, I just find the amount of pixelation unacceptable.

Illustrator :: Placed Images In Exported PSDs Are Pixelated

Sep 25, 2012

I'm making large prints (40x60) from Illustrator files, and the print plugin requires Photoshop. I am converting the AI file's Document Color Mode to RGB, then exporting to PSD as high-resolution 300ppi, using artboards.

When I export the AI files to PSD and view them in PS, the photographic elements appear pixelated at 100% whereas the text & graphics are smooth and high-res. I've checked the linked photographic files, and they are not pixelated. So what I've had to do is export editable PSDs from AI using the "Write Layers" option, open the files in PS, and then re-place the photographic elements so that they are no longer pixelated.

FYI, Anti-Aliasing is set to Art Optimized (Supersampling). The AI and PS files are both sized to 40x60, and the PSD is opening as 300ppi.

Maya Modeling :: How To Open Image File For Reference In Separate Window

Nov 3, 2012

I’m a 3DS Max transfer. In 3DS Max there is an option to open an image file for modeling reference in a separate window within Max which always stays on top. This is NOT an image plane to model off of but an IMAGE FILE, a picture i can get the details from that don’t show in a drawing or plane. Currently I open images or groups of images(NOT SEQUENCES) in the default OS file viewer program. This is fine with a dual monitor setup, where I throw the reference images to the other screen. But what about when I’m on my laptop on the go or have no other monitor? Currently I’d have to open the same program, have it underneath MAYA and flip back and forth, which is a very big hassle over time. I’d like to be able to open a small, resizable window WITHIN maya and view the image file(or files!) there so I can move it around my workspace and glance over to it in an instant.

I still want my four panels or all of my panel space to work with. With it being resizable i can even shrink it down to get the gist in the upper right corner where no icons are even zoom in on parts with such a small window.
