Aug 28, 2013A customer is trying to export a model for use in Revit. When he goes to the Environments tab -> BIM Exchange and the dialog opens... He has no option for RFA files... Only ADSK. Not sure what is going on.

Mar 1, 2014I already have a revit model of a building with the areas identified like "room A", "room B", etc. I exported it to FBX and opened with Unity but the information about the rooms was not there (I am assuming FBX format does not save that information)
I might be wrong but I beleive IFC format saves this information. The problem is that Unity does not import IFC files and the file seems way too complicated to make my own parser to read it. I was wondering if there is a lib or something that I could use to visualize the 3D model without losing the rooms identification.

When I export the drawing, the composition that I model in Revit is shown in the paper space, Is there a way to automatically export this composition into the model space?

Feb 23, 2012I'm working on a staircase with a decorative panel design.
I'd like to export the model to 3ds Max Design, convert the solid model to a mesh and then bend the mesh to follow a horizontal radius of curvature. Once that's done I'd like to be able to convert it back into a solid and import it back into AutoCAD.

Jan 15, 2013I'm not looking to RENDER wireframe, I'm looking to export a model as ONLY a wireframe out and bring it into After Effects.
Essentially, I am trying to bring an .obj into After Effects using the plugin Element 3D. While I'm aware I can simply import the model as-is into Element 3D and use the wireframe texture that Element 3D comes with, I was wondering if it's possible to just export a model out of Maya in it's wireframe state. I wasn't 100% sure if the wireframe state was just a view or not.

Apr 4, 2008i downloaded the trial version of 2k9, on a win xp machine, with the main interest in trying out this new feature...unfortunately i have yet been successfull in using it as autocad either locks-up durring the export or end up with an "unhandled exeption...eDegenerateGeometry"...
i'm also attaching the details of such an exception (and i probably should report this to autodesk for their investigations)...

However, for each file attached the levels of the project from ACA are not recognized in MAX - all the levels are stacked ontop of eachother in the same place. Oct 12, 2011If I don't set up UVs in my model and instead use PTex painting in Mudbox, can I then export the model to OBJ with UVW maps? I would like to import the model to Octane render which imports OBJ files and their UVW mapping.
I have Mudbox 2009 and am contemplating downloading the 2012 demo to see if Ptex painting makes things easier for me, but it won't work if I can't then bring the painted model into Octane or into my license of Max 2011.

Sep 17, 2012I need to export a model of a historic building from 3ds max to Quest 3D and create a walk through. The model is very detailed and was not designed with my goal in mind. My job for now is to optimize and remove all unnecessary things from the model.
I got stuck very early on when I tried to bake the textures. I'm using VRay rendered and when I pick a certain object to render and use VrayCompleteMap element the rendered image always appears completely black.

The program can either copy the layout to the modelspace and save or copy the layout to a new file. Either way is fine. The drawing exported in half scale means a circle with 10mm diameter dimension on it exported as a circle with 5mm diameter But the dimension on the circle remains as 10mm!!!
How does this happen and how can I fix it?

Nov 18, 2013When I apply an Vray material to my linked Revit file the material appears extremely large and I cant fix it either by playing around with the scaling of the material or UVW-mapping. I have made sure that both my Revit model and 3DS max are both set to mm.
The scale of the material applied in Revit has the right proportions etc. Its just when I apply a new Vray material it goes wrong.

I have managed to get the main bodys of the building done and the main roof.The problem now is that when i switch too the east or west elevations to add mass for the roofs on the adjoining wings of the building it wont let me see the model lines when i draw them in the screen i just get an error message " None of the created elements are visible in Elevation: East View. You may want to check the active view, its Parameters, and Visibility settings. "I have my reference line set not far from the building and it seemed fine when i done the roof from the north and south views for the main building. I can see the model lines when i switch too 3D views but i cant create the mass from there.

Nov 4, 2013I'm trying to model a parametric simple unit in Revit. So, I decided t use the generic family template. I want to model a rectangular unit with exterior wooden wall and interior steel frame. I have three problems
1- I have imported structural column profile into the family, but my problem is that I cannot align the section to two reference line. For example, I want to align the top of the column to the top exterior wall, and align the left side of the column to the left exterior wall; but I can just assign of these sides.
2- I've imported structural framing family in my generic model, but I cannot assign a parameter to the length of the beam, and the length is constant, and I can change the length just in 3D view. Do you know how to assign a parameter to the length?
3-I couldn't use the predefined walls it the family, so, I used extrusion. But I couldn't use the Revit windows family on the extrusion walls. Is there any way to use the predefined wall systems in Revit to be able to use the windows families?

Particulary, I have big problems to model 2 intersected caverns: I tried to model them with rhinoceros or other 3d software and then import the model into revit, but this cause some problems with the export to autocad (problems of visualization). I prefer modelling the intersected cavern directly into revit.
