My firm is starting a project....the Structural side is going to be don in Revit 3d and our Mechanical side uses Autocad w/Cadworxs for our 3d package. Is it possible to export the Revit steel drawing and import that model into Autocad as an xref?

A customer is trying to export a model for use in Revit. When he goes to the Environments tab -> BIM Exchange and the dialog opens... He has no option for RFA files... Only ADSK. Not sure what is going on.

View 3 Replies View RelatedJust got the upgrade from 2012 to 2013 AutoCAD. When I opened the file from 2012 to 2013 for editing, my sub-xref file become "Unreferenced". The main Xref is loaded and fine. I tried to reload it but it doesn't work, and only its text path that are shown in there. It seems that the sub-xref file is in the right path when I trying to verify it location. So, what I did was use my old 2010 Autocad to finish my task which work fine. Why my sub-xref is in "unreference"condition using 2013 AutoCAD.?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm familiar with basic solid modelling for walls, roofs etc. but for my project at the moment I have a concrete wall with a number of suspended platforms held up by 45 degree steel tension cables.
I don't know much about curves and pipes and things.
Do you know the easiest way to model a steel tension cable with some form of connecting eyelet at each end. Preferably the cable should look as though formed from twisted wires rather than a smooth rod.
I'm currently working on a project that requires modelling in revit but exporting the final drawings in Autocad format. As a requirement from my client, I am demanded to export the entire paper space into the model space as Autocad entities.
When I export the drawing, the composition that I model in Revit is shown in the paper space, Is there a way to automatically export this composition into the model space?
I'm working on 2013 AutoCAD along with V52.03 HydraCAD and have been trying to export a model to Navisworks. Currently I have Navisworks Freedom 2013 on my system. AutoCAD doesn't recognize "nwdout" as a command, it says unknown command. Does this have something to do with the Navisworks Freedom that I have on the machine instead of Navisworks Simulate?

When I check "Extract objects from xrefs"; and go to next it processes for a bit then stays on page 2 of 8 on the Define Data Source page. Also have the same error if I choose " Drawings/Sheet set" with or without the xref objects included.

The assembly I have designed is of a cable fixed between two brackets which are fastened on two structural beams. I am looking accurately model the cable attachment on the brackets. My inital thought would be to extrude the length of cable through a pre-defined path between the bracket fixing holes however this would not represent a 'true life scenario'.

I did ths after bind all the X-ref files and explode them all then with "Export layout to new model" command from the right click menu on Layout tab. But the file is slightly big, the file has more than about 105 layout , the AutoCAD gets hang and after about 10-15 mins it shows a dialogue box contents"Unhandelled exception has occurred in a component in your application. If you click continue the application will ignore this and attempt to continue" I clicked on "Continue" and a file has been created with 0 bites.And that file cannot be opened.

Also is there a way to export model space from one workbook to another. In that one is the standard company file and I want to build a sepearte workbook for my purposes (making specific paper spaces etc...) but I want to use their model space for the model space of my workbook. Also if possible to export would this exported model space make changes when changes were made on the original copy?
I already have a revit model of a building with the areas identified like "room A", "room B", etc. I exported it to FBX and opened with Unity but the information about the rooms was not there (I am assuming FBX format does not save that information)
I might be wrong but I beleive IFC format saves this information. The problem is that Unity does not import IFC files and the file seems way too complicated to make my own parser to read it. I was wondering if there is a lib or something that I could use to visualize the 3D model without losing the rooms identification.
The problem is about drawing a solid model like the one in the attachment, and I have problem with the triangle, I tried a lot of things, but unfortunately it's not the same as it should be

Is there a way in Revit to export or import settings much like a profile in AutoCAD and how I set up the icon to point at that profile when the program opens? I would like to know how be able to customize where the program looks for the families and other items over the network, so all users can see the same thing, in options.
Attached is the properties of the AutoCAD icon. The Target is set-up to point to the "AutoCAD Architecture (US Imperial)" profile. I would like to do something similar in the Revit icon.
I've generated my steel frame model using a skeletal model technique. So my part file consists of only sketch lines representing where I want my steel to be placed. I've created an assembly and used that in my inventor.dwg file.
The problem is that I need to dimension to the sketch file and not to the model shapes because the sketch lines define the center of gravity. These lines aren't visible even though I've right-clicked on the content and selected "Get Model Sketches". How I can get my skeletal model through to the DWG environment?
When I go from model tab to layout 1 the drawing does not transfer over. I have went on youtube and looked and even watch the instructor video. Everyone's just transfers right over. mine does not.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm having a problem with the transform of my model every time I import/export through maya and mudbox.
Basically every time I import a mesh from maya into mudbox then export to maya and back my mesh is shown smaller on the grid, I've done everything I can think of in Maya before exporting by centering the pivot, freezing transform, and deleting all history, but I still get the same result and my mesh just gets smaller and smaller?? I've also tried resizing it as well and get the same result.
I'm using maya 6.5 and mudbox 2011.
I have my own ctb settings for CAD I need the same in Revit. How I export the ctb settings from CAD to Revit.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWe have just loaded AutoCAD 2013 from previously using Version 2012, and I am experiencing a very distubing phenomenon. While manipulating the commands in any vieport window in Model Space, the program automatically 'jumps' into Paper Space causing an interruption in work-flow, and losing any command which was in progress during the time. For example, if a number of objects were copied with the intention of placing them elsewhere within the same or another paper space window in 'model space' , the program would jump to paper space and the items would be lost, with the necessity of selecting them all over again. This can happen several times in a row.

This drawing has multiple title blocks. and each title block has its own scale. 1:500, 1:50, 1:150, 1:75. Now I make a block out of each title block and scale them out to find out if they plot out on the same sheet, and they do. Now, I still can't find out the scale factor to print them out to scale. I tried using using the scale shown in for each drawing for example 1:500 and it is super small when I do a print preview.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have this file that won't open in AutoCAD Architecture 2012, well let me rephrase that, it won't finish opening. It has 4 or 5 xref's attached. I was able to open this same file using 2010. Through process of elimination I was able to determine that a file that was exported from Revit MEP 2012 was the problem. When that file was detached the drawing would open just fine. To make things more interesting, I am able to open the Revit Export file just fine using 2012. What diabolical combination of event has happened to cause this SNAFU.
