I'm working on a staircase with a decorative panel design.
I'd like to export the model to 3ds Max Design, convert the solid model to a mesh and then bend the mesh to follow a horizontal radius of curvature. Once that's done I'd like to be able to convert it back into a solid and import it back into AutoCAD.
I having used 3D modeling software and Auto-cad in the past, I know how to design complex models using the features provided in the tool-bars but I have never even heard about programming using things like VBA until randomly running into it on the internet.what exactly is the use of programming on software like auto-cad and solid-edge? I mean I understand it will change the part to a text file but what is the use? can you design/edit a 3D model using just programming? Do mechanical design engineers need to know this? (even if not I still want to learn but just need to know if it is compulsory) What is the latest/best programming language used for programming in design software because I heard VBA is slowing down.

View 7 Replies View Relatedi wanna use a existent project to make a new one, i copy all the files that I need to a new project, then I use Design Assistant to rename all files, everything works fine this way. I just saw now a little 'problem' that doesn't bother me, but can be a problem to other ppl who open this project and see the difference.
When I rename the file name from Design Assistant (opening it from the top assembly), all the parts get its PART NUMBER updated and all the files are renamed too, but...when i open the assembly, in the Model tree, no parts have the name updated, all keeps the old name, but if i open the part from the model tree, i open the correct part already updated and renamed, so, its just the model tree displays name that are incorrect. Is that known ? Is there a solution ? Or am I doing something wrong to copy or rename files ?
I realized that is happens most when i rename files from a top assembly with subassemblies. Sometimes when i use just one assemblie with just parts inside it, everything goes normal.
I was trying to model the tail fin(vertical Stabilizer) for an aeromodel design. I inherited a dwg file of the tailfin with some poorly defined ribs that shape the fin. The fin tapers back and up.
My problem - I need to put in a brace which starts from the front of the lowest rib and goes back and up to the front of the topmost rib. and a pair of slots similar to the ones already modeled but further up towards the front. I hoped that a sweep feature on the assembly would do it but i am unable to create a rail and constrain it properly.
Another issue i had was to model a plastic film covering for the fin. An aeromodel uses a heatshrink monokote film. How would i model something like that in inventor.

i downloaded the trial version of 2k9, on a win xp machine, with the main interest in trying out this new feature...unfortunately i have yet been successfull in using it as autocad either locks-up durring the export or end up with an "unhandled exeption...eDegenerateGeometry"...
i'm also attaching the details of such an exception (and i probably should report this to autodesk for their investigations)...
A customer is trying to export a model for use in Revit. When he goes to the Environments tab -> BIM Exchange and the dialog opens... He has no option for RFA files... Only ADSK. Not sure what is going on.

One time, a consultant sent us a 3D model in pdf format and I was able to rotate a model, cut sections and do an orbit rotation inside Adobe Acrobat.
I want to export my 3D model as a pdf file and able to do an orbit rotation within Acrobat.

However, for each file attached the levels of the project from ACA are not recognized in MAX - all the levels are stacked ontop of eachother in the same place. I did not see an option in the presets for MAX to understand this.

The program can either copy the layout to the modelspace and save or copy the layout to a new file. Either way is fine. These are old MDT files that we are moving into the Vault, but Vault doesn't like them and the drafters are using AutoCAD in modelspace to revise them.

I am using File>Export Layout to Model... command.
The drawing exported in half scale means a circle with 10mm diameter dimension on it exported as a circle with 5mm diameter But the dimension on the circle remains as 10mm!!!
How does this happen and how can I fix it?

AutoCAD doesn't recognize "nwdout" as a command, it says unknown command. Does this have something to do with the Navisworks Freedom that I have on the machine instead of Navisworks Simulate?

Is there a way I can design it in illustrator.. save as an interactive pdf and then they can edit it with acrobat? I did ths after bind all the X-ref files and explode them all then with "Export layout to new model" command from the right click menu on Layout tab. But the file is slightly big, the file has more than about 105 layout , the AutoCAD gets hang and after about 10-15 mins it shows a dialogue box contents"Unhandelled exception has occurred in a component in your application. If you click continue the application will ignore this and attempt to continue" I clicked on "Continue" and a file has been created with 0 bites.And that file cannot be opened.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a question about exporting layouts into the model space coordinate system. I have a lot of drawings created from view frame and sheet set manager.
Each drawing has its own layout and it needs to be exported into model space. But when I export the layout it places the drawing into 0,0 in model space.
Is there any way to have it placed at the drawings coordinate system, assuming its in CA-VF (California State Plane Zone V, US foot) ?
Can it also be rotated, including title block, if the the viewport has a rotation (if the north arrow is not pointing up)?
We need to export the dwg's into dgn's. Our client uses Microstation v7 and all drawings need to be in that format.

I have AutoCAD 2013 and usially use in my work dynamic blocks with wipeout, e.g. valves, pumps and others.
So, few days ago I found that I cannot export my drawing from layout to model space. Everything is exported except wipeouts.
Is it something about new Autodesk politics or what? AutoCAD 2010 still works fine with the same drawing.

I'm currently working on a project that requires modelling in revit but exporting the final drawings in Autocad format. As a requirement from my client, I am demanded to export the entire paper space into the model space as Autocad entities.
When I export the drawing, the composition that I model in Revit is shown in the paper space, Is there a way to automatically export this composition into the model space?
I have a designer that created this beautiful (but complicated) design in illustrator and now we're trying to get it exported to html. The thing is, most of the images that are in tds we want to be background images so that we can put stuff on top of it. So we need the exported html to generate the image size correctly. For example, I don't want

but
<img src="someimage.jpg">
The problem is that illustrator for whatever reason is generating the images slightly too small (I guess to make the image size smaller?), then is stretching them using width and height attributes. As I'm sure you guys are aware of, the background attribute has no way of specifying a width and height.
My firm is starting a project....the Structural side is going to be don in Revit 3d and our Mechanical side uses Autocad w/Cadworxs for our 3d package. Is it possible to export the Revit steel drawing and import that model into Autocad as an xref?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have recently upgraded from corel 12 to X6. I work in SignLab e6 on my production computer. Now since I have upgraded when I export files from x6 and import them into SignLab e6 they will not import unless I change everything to 1 color. If it does export the file as full color, when I import the file it is converted to 1 color. This takes a lot of time to re color everything. I typically have to export files from Corel as .EPS in order for the file to import into Signlab with best quality, but have been using the CMX (legacy) lately with same results. I dont understand why I have to convert them into 1 color nor why they convert from full color to 1 color.
