Revit :: Window Frame Depth Changes When Modifying Window Family
Sep 14, 2013I modified a Window Family file by adding a Window inset parameter. When I inserted the window into a wall, otherwise the window worked fine, but when I changed the window's Window Inset value, the frame depth changed instead of the frame's location. The frame was originally made by Sweep tool, but now when I made it by Extrusion tool, the window works fine. Anyway, for future purposes, I would like to know how to be able to use the Window Inset parameter with a frame made by Sweep tool. How do I lock the depth of the frame sweep?

Nov 24, 2013I am currently photoshopping (CS5) this picture and how to reduce the transparency of the curtains (in the bottom half a terrace and window frame are shining through)? I tried playing with the 'Output Levels' on those areas, but the result is quite uneven. If only the folds were parallel I could stretch the top part over the terrace.

I can change it so there is a block of a different fabric but it needs to be more transparent so you can see the curves and folds in the curtain in the origional picture but I do not want to see the orgional fabric. Is there anyway of doing this?

Jun 13, 2012I having used 3D modeling software and Auto-cad in the past, I know how to design complex models using the features provided in the tool-bars but I have never even heard about programming using things like VBA until randomly running into it on the internet.what exactly is the use of programming on software like auto-cad and solid-edge? I mean I understand it will change the part to a text file but what is the use? can you design/edit a 3D model using just programming? Do mechanical design engineers need to know this? (even if not I still want to learn but just need to know if it is compulsory) What is the latest/best programming language used for programming in design software because I heard VBA is slowing down.

Feb 8, 2013i wanna use a existent project to make a new one, i copy all the files that I need to a new project, then I use Design Assistant to rename all files, everything works fine this way. I just saw now a little 'problem' that doesn't bother me, but can be a problem to other ppl who open this project and see the difference.
When I rename the file name from Design Assistant (opening it from the top assembly), all the parts get its PART NUMBER updated and all the files are renamed too, but...when i open the assembly, in the Model tree, no parts have the name updated, all keeps the old name, but if i open the part from the model tree, i open the correct part already updated and renamed, so, its just the model tree displays name that are incorrect. Is that known ? Is there a solution ? Or am I doing something wrong to copy or rename files ?
I realized that is happens most when i rename files from a top assembly with subassemblies. Sometimes when i use just one assemblie with just parts inside it, everything goes normal.
AutoCAD Inventor :: Model Tail Fin (vertical Stabilizer) For Aeromodel Design
Feb 7, 2013I was trying to model the tail fin(vertical Stabilizer) for an aeromodel design. I inherited a dwg file of the tailfin with some poorly defined ribs that shape the fin. The fin tapers back and up.
My problem - I need to put in a brace which starts from the front of the lowest rib and goes back and up to the front of the topmost rib. and a pair of slots similar to the ones already modeled but further up towards the front. I hoped that a sweep feature on the assembly would do it but i am unable to create a rail and constrain it properly.
Another issue i had was to model a plastic film covering for the fin. An aeromodel uses a heatshrink monokote film. How would i model something like that in inventor.

3ds Max :: Model Window Pane With Old / Crackled Paint
Mar 15, 2013I am trying to model a window pane with old, crackled paint. First I tried to build something myself, using smoke maps and cellular maps, but couldn't get it to look realistic. So now I found a great texture on CG Textures.
But it is a 2D texture and I can't get it to look right on my 3D window pane. I tried using the map on UV, VW and WU projections, I even made three materials, one for each projection, but I keep getting lines in stead of paint cracks. Maybe it's the tiling, but there I also tried low numbers and high numbers.
Do I need to unwrap the UVs (I did see some that use the standard primitives, but my window is an editable poly).

Nov 13, 2012I'm looking to size my model space window so that it is exactly 1280x720 pixels of viewable area for the sake of using plot to .png to create the right size images.
Is there a quick command or menu somewhere that shows the current viewable area of the model space window and allows for it to be changed?
I am using AutoCAD 2012.

I'm trying to design a large home and face workaround after workaround - many of which defeat the BIM materials inventory database I'd like to develop for quoteing the job. I understand that a Wood Framing Extension is available, but I'm still a student learning the software and the application is a subscription item and a high cost.

Nov 14, 2013I have four floor plans of varying differences on the same level that have been set up in different views, and organized by 'Design Options'. It would be very beneficial to be able to overlay these plans (eg. to see the differences, to make relative manipulations) as one can with the 'Underlay' feature can with different levels.
I have thought about placing the views on the same sheet and then activating the view I want to revise, but there is transparency complications . Suggest an alternative for a Design Option Underlay ability?

The owners want to run a joined practice and are building it together, so I'm preparing one set of construction drawings. However for a permit drawings I have to prepare 2 sets of drawings with each office separately-what's the best way of doing it? Also how should I handle sheets?-should I create 2 series: permit and CD? I'm not sure how to do it.

Feb 9, 2012Is there a way to organize Design Options (alpha numeric) once they have been created.
I work for a large home builder and we will have multiple elevations for each floor plan. The elevations are usually labeled A, B, C, D etc. If an elevation changes labels, say elevation D becomes elevation B, the order will now be A, D, C, B; they cant be reordered into alphabetical order. Which can become confusing. Make sense? Attached is an example of a basic Design Option from one of my houses. In a typical house we can have 50-60 design options, that can change names over years, and they need to remain in an easily read and sourced order.

I have the North wall of the house in a design option for the living room at the moment. But I have decided I no longer want that wall in the my living room option, I would like to move it to my kitchen design option so I am able to move a window that is located on that wall. I cannot seem to find a way to move a wall from one design option to another or have it in both if it is already part of a design option. How I can get this wall and the windows located on it into my kitchen design layout without having things being double counted in the schedules?

I did a full install of the Design Suite and checked Control Panel/ Programs/ Programs and Features for " autodesk navisworks simulate 2013 exporter plugins" but they're not installed. Are the plugins included in the Suite or do I download them from Autodesk?

1. When I link A revit model (having different worksets) into B revit model, We can control the worksets visibility at the time of linking. We can select any workset to be switched off and it will not be visibility in any view. Can we controll it after linking and on the basis of views, i.e. Can we switch off any single worksets of a link file in a particular view. My understanding is that We can't control worksets of a link file in our main revit model.
2. If A.rvt contains deisgn options. can we link those design options to design options in B.rvt, Can we set the visibility of a view in B.rvt to see desired design option from A.rvt. My understanding is that revit link does not contains design options information.
3. Similar rules applies with Phases. We can't link phases from A.rvt with phases in B.rvt, Also can not controll the visibility of phases of a linked revit model.Seeks experts comments to confirm my belief. What are the nearest possible work around for these issues.
Revit :: Linked Models Are Not Displayed In Design Options
Jun 21, 2012Baffing issue for us:
We have a "core & shell" model linked into a "fit-out" model. We are working with design options in the "fit-out" model with different design options.
1. In a 3D axo view and working in the main model, we can see the linked "core & shell" file.
2. In the same 3D axo view and working in the primary design option, we can see the linked "core & shell" file.
3. In the same 3D axo view and working in any of the other design option, we CANNOT see the linked "core & shell" file.
The visibility & graphics settings have not been changed. The worksets settings have not been changed. We have been unable to overcome this issue. We are simply flippiing between different design options and the linked model disappears.
