View 3 RepliesI'm not looking to RENDER wireframe, I'm looking to export a model as ONLY a wireframe out and bring it into After Effects.
Essentially, I am trying to bring an .obj into After Effects using the plugin Element 3D. While I'm aware I can simply import the model as-is into Element 3D and use the wireframe texture that Element 3D comes with, I was wondering if it's possible to just export a model out of Maya in it's wireframe state. I wasn't 100% sure if the wireframe state was just a view or not.
I'm having a problem with the transform of my model every time I import/export through maya and mudbox.
Basically every time I import a mesh from maya into mudbox then export to maya and back my mesh is shown smaller on the grid, I've done everything I can think of in Maya before exporting by centering the pivot, freezing transform, and deleting all history, but I still get the same result and my mesh just gets smaller and smaller?? I've also tried resizing it as well and get the same result.
I'm using maya 6.5 and mudbox 2011.
One time, a consultant sent us a 3D model in pdf format and I was able to rotate a model, cut sections and do an orbit rotation inside Adobe Acrobat.
I want to export my 3D model as a pdf file and able to do an orbit rotation within Acrobat.
How way to combine settings for 3dmax and Photoshop for the results close to perfect, can see an example of figure .
View 1 Replies View RelatedBasically I've got a detail specific to my design, I've extruded all of the layers up to their desired levels etc, but now I want to be able to rotate it all so that instead of these layers being orientated vertically, they are orientated horizontally, if that makes sense. I understand that there is something involved with the UCS but I'm not sure how to get this to work. This may be an issue with my computer as I know my laptop graphics card is pretty rubbish and impacts a lot of 3d programs such as Rhino and SketchUp so this could be the issue here

I'd like to export the model to 3ds Max Design, convert the solid model to a mesh and then bend the mesh to follow a horizontal radius of curvature. Once that's done I'd like to be able to convert it back into a solid and import it back into AutoCAD.
i downloaded the trial version of 2k9, on a win xp machine, with the main interest in trying out this new feature...unfortunately i have yet been successfull in using it as autocad either locks-up durring the export or end up with an "unhandled exeption...eDegenerateGeometry"...
i'm also attaching the details of such an exception (and i probably should report this to autodesk for their investigations)...
A customer is trying to export a model for use in Revit. When he goes to the Environments tab -> BIM Exchange and the dialog opens... He has no option for RFA files... Only ADSK. Not sure what is going on.

However, for each file attached the levels of the project from ACA are not recognized in MAX - all the levels are stacked ontop of eachother in the same place. I did not see an option in the presets for MAX to understand this.

The program can either copy the layout to the modelspace and save or copy the layout to a new file. Either way is fine. These are old MDT files that we are moving into the Vault, but Vault doesn't like them and the drafters are using AutoCAD in modelspace to revise them.

Also is there a way to export model space from one workbook to another. In that one is the standard company file and I want to build a sepearte workbook for my purposes (making specific paper spaces etc...) but I want to use their model space for the model space of my workbook. Also if possible to export would this exported model space make changes when changes were made on the original copy?
I am using File>Export Layout to Model... command.
The drawing exported in half scale means a circle with 10mm diameter dimension on it exported as a circle with 5mm diameter But the dimension on the circle remains as 10mm!!!
How does this happen and how can I fix it?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm working on 2013 AutoCAD along with V52.03 HydraCAD and have been trying to export a model to Navisworks. Currently I have Navisworks Freedom 2013 on my system. AutoCAD doesn't recognize "nwdout" as a command, it says unknown command. Does this have something to do with the Navisworks Freedom that I have on the machine instead of Navisworks Simulate?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm not a Maya user, but our employee that is, is out of the office. I have models I need to export as OBJ models but I'm having issues.
I've enabled the plugin for the objExport.mil by checking Loaded and Auto Load.
I go to Export All and locate where to export the file.
It exports a 1kb file with nothing in it.
Why won't it export the OBJ?

I have a human figure, created in Maya, which has been rigged with both bones and muscles.
After it has been posed, is it possible to export the skin of this model without it losing definition from the lack of the maya bones/muscles?
I know that it can be exported to Mudbox, but is this the only place it can be exported?
I am trying to find a way to reproduce a model created in Maya (or Mudbox for that matter) as a physical object (via 3D printing).
Yet no one seems to have much experience with this, and tools like "Inventor" don't seem to like working with things that are not solids (i.e. not polygon meshes, sub-divs, or NURBs).
I'm having a lot of problems trying to load a model I animated using Trax.
First I modeled and rigged a character in Maya and saved it as model.mb.
Next I created an empty file and referenced my model file into in. In the new file I created a character set based on all the rig handles. Next I spent a few hours animating some simple walk cycles and jumps, putting each animation into a separate Trax track. I also created a few character poses.
Last night, everything was working fine. I could select poses and apply them. I could enable single Trax tracks and play them and everything went smoothly. I saved and closed my file.
Today when I opened the file and tried to continue, none of the Trax animations I saved were working. When I try to assume a pose, the rigging moves seemingly random directions. When I enable a Trax clip and play it, the animation is all messed up.
I experimented today with a simple test file. I created a new empty file, referenced in my model, created a character set and a few character poses. Everything was working fine. I could select the bind poses in the visor and assume whatever pose I wanted without error. Then I saved the file and closed it. When I reopened the file and tried to assume the same poses, my character's limbs shot off in all sorts of weird directions.
What's going on? Have I lost my work? How am I supposed to use Trax is if this happens if I simply save, close and reopen Maya?
(The rigging was all nurbs curves with a little bit of Set Driven Keys for the fingers and feet. I also hid and locked attributes of the nurbs I wasn't using. The rigging mostly done using constraints, although I also used straight parenting for some IK handles.)
i'm currently learning maya 2011..my problem is that sometimes when i use the split polygon tool or the edge insert tool and some others A PART OF MY MODEL goes into wire frame mode not the whole model and even if i undo it still doesn't work..in the perspective viewport under shading i have selected 'smooth shade all'.

I have attached a jpeg of my pre-production artwork, in it you can see the yellow cloth placed on two wooden planks. At the moment I am modelling the cloth by adjusting the vertices, but find it to be a bit tedious. Is there any other way for me get effective results. Since I am a beginner I would like to know the the different ways a little in detail.

I did ths after bind all the X-ref files and explode them all then with "Export layout to new model" command from the right click menu on Layout tab. But the file is slightly big, the file has more than about 105 layout , the AutoCAD gets hang and after about 10-15 mins it shows a dialogue box contents"Unhandelled exception has occurred in a component in your application. If you click continue the application will ignore this and attempt to continue" I clicked on "Continue" and a file has been created with 0 bites.And that file cannot be opened.

I use CAD programs to prepare models for simulations in other software and I would like to work with Inventor because my Department uses it. Till now I have been using Solid Works and with a little trick it is possible to export surfaces as a STL file. In Inventor I didn't manage to do this. So, is it possible?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI’m using mud box 2013 and maya 2013, I’m trying to send a model/mesh through from maya to mud box by clicking the mesh and then file > send to mud box > send as new scene. This seems to work fine I get a little connected to mud box dialogue box in the bottom right corner and mud box begins to open, when it finally opens the scene inside of mud box is empty. Its as if its imported nothing.

I found a free rigged dog model for Maya [URL] .... that will fit my story perfectly, but I want to be able to change some of the geometry of the model, like modifying the ears and tail. But I can't seem to figure out how to do that! I'm able to select parts of the dog and move it around, but I don't know how to actually change the model itself. And if I do so, will it mess up the rigging? How do I go about editing this model?

When I've done the skin-binding, and want to add the weigtpaint, sometimes out of nowhere, my model desides to stretch. I can try to fix it with weightpaint or unbind it and bind it again, but it keeps on doing it. Also, when I'm animating my model it sometimes happens.
I scroll in the timeslider to see how my animation is working, and all of a sudden it appears and no turning back with Ctrl+Z... Also, adjusting the weightpaint doesn't work.
Also when I'm animating, the keys I've set jump away. I have to key the whole skeleton, then it will stay in the position I chose it to be. I don't think that's what they want you to do, because it takes so much time... I've had this with several models now (all made in 2012) and several files. Though a model created in 2011 and rigged and bound in 2012 works perfectly...
I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or that my files are damaged somehow or maybe something else... But I never had problems like this in the earlier versions...
I thought, can i just model in 3D max, with all that details on it, for high poly. And then transfer that high poly model in Maya, and do low poly, uv, texturing, lighting, rendering, composting and Animation too? I am interest in cinematic for game, like trailer for games, which is done from Blur and Blizzard, and BioWare too?
