Maya :: Vertex Color Display With And Without Alpha?

I'm working on a mobile game engine that uses RGB vertex color values for baked lighting, and Alpha vertex values for 2-material blending.
The system works fine in textured view (6), since we're rendering using our own shaders, but I would prefer to be able to turn on and off the alpha value when looking at the geometry in shaded mode (5). In other words, I want to be able to store and bake RGBA values, but in shaded mode I'd like to only see the RGB values so the meshes with blended materials don't show up transparent when I'm trying to light them.

I have a set of polylines that have easting, northing and height values. However, I want to display the co-ordinates of each vertex within the polyline.
When I scroll over the vertices of the polyline the values change (bottom left screen) I simply want them displayed as a text.

i can´t let just one vertex, i must always let 3 vertex at last, otherwise it won´t delete, i have even problems when extruding, when I select 1 vertex, instead of extruding just 1, it will create 2 or 3 vertex, probably to make a face.

I feel like my mesh component mode editing speed went down to hill with Maya 2012. I cannot move an object with couple thousand verts in vertex editing mode. I have been using Maya since v3 or 4 and never had it this slow.
I have Nvidia gtx 465 and on win7 64.

I am not in soft select mode. If I go to Soft Select I can see the CV's. But when I right mouse click to select CVs they are invisible. If I drag to select I can grab them, but they are still invisible and it's getting really difficult to manipulate things right now.

I've been using Maya for a little while, and have often found manipulating vertices frustrating.
The problem is that - as far as I can tell - I need to select a vertex before manipulating it. This is annoying because I have to click a vertex and then click and drag it again to actually move it (not so easy on a tablet). Also, if I'm off by even a slight amount, I click the object instead and I pop out of vertex selection mode and back into object selection mode.
I could simply click once and drag to move vertices and if there was no vertex under my mouse when I clicked, I wouldn't accidentally select an entirely different object.

Is there any way to randomly animate vertex position?
I've tried using EditMesh-Transform Component so I get a random position but without a seed value to animate. Also I've tried using a noise texture with a displacement node but you jus can check results in render time.

How do I turn off the vertex normal direction? I tried to go display > polygons > Reset Display.

I'm using Maya 2010. why this is happening, and how to fix it? I have a piece of polygonal geometry. I have confirmed all the culprit vertices are on the zero X axis.
But when I mirror it (-X), it collapses the 5 vertices at zero to a single vertex at the center, as shown in the "after" image:

I have problem when i duplicate polygon another side of model. The object is not smooth, it look like different model. I try to "combine" and "mesh" vertex from middle of object. but it still same. The polygon will smooth if i use "smooth tool". But i need low polygon for transfer map from high polygon to low polygon. but it not work, because low polygon look like different model.
I need smooth low polygon, but not to much smooth. I need only when i duplicate polygon, it not look like different model is okay.

I'm having a problem with Maya's vertex/point snapping function. This is a simple thing to do normally but in the 2014 student version (which is full functionality other than having a prompt saying it is a student version upon saving the file), it isn't working.
Basically the process is making a selection of vertices and with the transform tool active, MMB dragging the manipulator to snap the selection to a destination vertex. The pivot point/manipulator of the selection is moving and snapping to the destination vertex on it's own when I hold 'V' and MMB drag, rather than the whole selection moving with the transform manipulator and snapping to the destination vertex. This problem is also happening with the modelling toolkit which is really annoying. I have checked that i'm not in edit pivot mode etc.
The point snapping is working however for objects, but not in component mode as above.
I am running Windows 7, Maya SP2.

Whenever I try to select a Curve to select 'Control Vertex' I get the options for the Camera instead, the only work around I have is to Hide the Camera which also switches off the image planes, then select the curve and select 'Control Vertex, and then re-enable the image planes.

when I added a layer mask to a layer, it would display in the palette as the alpha channel, which was very handy. Now, when I add a layer mask, it only appears as the mask icon; i.e., gray square with white circle in the middle. I have no clue what I did to change from the one to the other, but I would certainly like to get the alpha representation back!

I have a dark gray triangle alongside a pure white triangle in a square GIF image. I want to convert the white triangle to alpha and leave the dark gray triangle completely opaque. When I use Color --> Color to Alpha, however, I see the checkerboard pattern extend over the gray in addition to the white.
1. Does this mean that the gray is being made translucent?
2. If so, how do I set only one the white to alpha (at 0% opacity) and leave the gray at 100% opacity?

I have simple meshes with vertex paint, color and alpha.The problem is when I collapse the modificators and get simple edit poly and then select some faces or whole mesh (select element) then settings from 'polygon: vertex colors' overwrite my painting! is in English language word 'color'? Dictionary from firefox say 'no' but in 3ds max there is 'color' slot.

When I color a the background of a photo to alpha it works just fine, I save it and export.
But when I try to open that same photo anywhere else the background is white .

I creat an alpha channel it shows up as white on my Photoshop Version 6 while my friend's alpha channel comes up in black on Photoshop CS. Obviously each is a default setting. How do you change the alpha channel color from white to black and vice versa.

I had a .JPEG of a leaf photographed against a white background. When I went to turn that white background into a transparent alpha channel, it seemed to work okay....except for the fact that when I then went to select the new alpha channel via the Fuzzy Select Tool, it wasn't selecting all these newly transparent pixels.

I am using the latest version of GIMP on my windows 7 pc but color to alpha doesn't work. At my pc at work it works fine but i use windows xp there and i have ghostscript and python installed.
Or is it something completely different?

It's not really related to Paint.NET usage, but how it calculate the resulting color:
For example I make red background, call it C1:
RGBA = 255, 0, 0, 255
Then I place a yellow pixel, call it C2:
RGBA: 220, 216, 0, 200
Then I use the Color Picker tool on this pixel, I get C3:
RGBA: 227, 169, 0, 255
I already know how to calculate R, G, and B of C3
R = ( (C2.A / 255) * C2.R ) + ( (1 - (C2.A / 255)) * C1.R ) = 227
G = ( (C2.A / 255) * C2.G ) + ( (1 - (C2.A / 255)) * C1.G ) = 169
B = ( (C2.A / 255) * C2.B ) + ( (1 - (C2.A / 255)) * C1.B ) = 0
But for the Alpha channel, it is different and I can't find how to calculate it!

Is paint.net v4.0 still promising color and alpha channel editing / masking?
I'm sure I read this in the roadmap feature list years ago, though I can't find the place to reference it. In fact this is my favorite anticipated feature for which I've been checking paint.net every month for the last five years!

Maya 2014 SP4 OSX.I have just spent the morning creating a new model, and I needed to check the normals for a few faces that I had to delete and recreate,the normals are now showing all the time and I cannot switch them off, I have check preferences and they are deselected there, but what ever I do they do not go away!
Also there is no tick to say that they are on or off? Should there be, I am sure on the system at work we have a tick?

We are doing pre-vis in Maya for a short movie so we need everything to match real life situations as close as possible...Real life measurements,scale,proportions etc.Also the camera must match the real life camera.
Is it possible to display camera heights from ground(grid) in the viewport,the same way you can see scene timecode and what frame is it.
Also,how to render those heads up display elements that are only visible in viewport
