I'm looking for any way to set the startup state of the viewport windows so that two sided lighting is turned off whenever i start Maya. I work in game assets creation a lot so having it turned off allows me to make sure my normals are facing the right way. I usually just turn it off manually but every now and then i forget and it comes back to bite me.
In maya 2011 I used the script found here [URL]
which is as follows :
Append the lines below to file "initHUDScripts.mel", preferably in a local copy to your maya scripts directory. Path is, in Windows: C:Users\Documentsmaya\scripts
// CUSTOM SETTINGS BELOW
// Set Two-sided lighting to off in default 4 views.
modelEditor -e -twoSidedLighting false modelPanel1;
[Code]....
but I can't seem to find the "initHUDScripts.mel" in the 2013 file structure. Alternate script I can implement or know where I should append this existing script in the 2013 files? the script still works in 2013, I just dont know where to put it to load at startup
I just installed 3D Studio Max 2014 and eveything is 2 sided in the viewports, how do I turn this off??
I don't see an option anywhere, but rendering the images shows they are in fact correctly 1 sided. I have checked on several computers so it doesn't seem to be a driver issue.
I am trying to scale faces individually inward. I extruded the faces and went to scale them but they are still scaling together even though my keep faces together option is unchecked. I tried extruding with faces together and then unchecking it but that didn't work. I also tried deleting my preferences folder and that didn't work
Maya 2014 SP4 OSX.I have just spent the morning creating a new model, and I needed to check the normals for a few faces that I had to delete and recreate, the normals are now showing all the time and I cannot switch them off, I have check preferences and they are deselected there, but what ever I do they do not go away!
Also there is no tick to say that they are on or off? Should there be, I am sure on the system at work we have a tick?
An opened image is always locked. And if you want to do something you need to get rid of the lock. And yes, there are workarounds to do that. Can you add a preference option to turn off the backround lock default.
Rather than having to add a mask, why not also have a any new layer to automatically have a mask. Its a small step, but its something we do alot. All layers should have blank masks associated to them.
I can not turn on the numbers when creating the UV maps as showing in the image I have attached with this question to make sure they are aligned properly.
I know that you can spin edges (that are visible). And I know that you can view "face triangles" (to view otherwise "invisible" edges.)But I cannot seem to select these "face triangle edges" or manipulate them. I can create a physical edge, yes, and place it where I want, but if I remove the edge, then maya seems to revert to its own random placement for the "invisible face edge." So, I feel like I have no control over the bend of non-planer quads.
In max, when you are working with edges, there is a tool called "turn." When selected, it reveals all hidden edges, and allows you to spin them to the angle you want. Turn off the tool and the selected edge position remains. Can this be done in Maya? And even if you cannot do this, is there any way to control the position of "invisible edges" in maya? Something like a "spin quad?"
I am facing some problem with few font series. Like the series of fonts called "Heavenetica" has turned italic.
Nothing happens even if I click Italic option again, I tried un-installing and re-installing the fonts, but still the same. The same fonts work and look fine in other software.
I recently upgraded to windows 8, this problem was not there in corel X6 in windows 7.
I prepare graphics mostly for print, so I like to turn on the Proof Colors view and Overprint Preview views. It's a pain to turn these on for each document. Is there a way to make these the default viewing settings in Illustrator CS6?
I tried creating an action to do it, but the Insert Menu Item command in actions causes Illustrator to crash every time, and the help file seems to say that View commands are unavailable to actions. So I'm not sure if that's a bug. Oddly, Photoshop has the very useful File> Scripts> Script Event Manager that let's me turn on Proof Colors (via an action) whenever a document is opened. It works very well. However, Illustrator does not appear to have these options. I found the View> New View options in Illustrator. They let me create a view that turns on Overprint Preview, but absolutely refuse to turn on Proof Colors. So it's the same number of clicks and pointless.

I've used Trax to create a number of animation clips for a character in a video game. I can create more complex animations by arranging several of these in the Trax editor and setting blends.
What I would like to know is: can I select several scheduled clips in the Trax editor and turn those into a single clip? Like if I had two walk cycles that blend into a jump, could I select those and create a single walk-then-jump clip which would appear in the visor, and which I could then drag into the Trax editor as a single unit?
Basically at some point or another, maya swaps back to the default hotkey layout. Im not quite sure how or why. Sometimes it takes an hour before the problem arrives, other times minutes. Its not permanent tho, restarting the app will fix it.
I've tried deleting second language, installing keyboard software, searching for alternative pref. files etc., and no, capsLock is not on ^^.
I am doing lighting now. Everything is fine except a scene. When I open the scene,it's blank in the preview window but everything is here, just like the first picture. When I open again(didn't close the maya window),it's better but still blank in the default quality rendering, like the second picture.Until I switch to the high quality rendering mode,it just display something like the third picture.
I have been having this problem for a while now that whenever I extrude or create something thats not totally smooth the edges by default are hardened. For example if I create a 12 faced cylinder it will hard edge everything including the verticle edges. Back when I first started using Maya i dont remember having to select specific edges to soften which can get very tedious and take up time.
I feel like there should be some sort of way to harden horizontal edges and soften verticle edges but I cant find the solution anywhere. Is there any way to change the default soften/harden edges?
I'm relatively new to 3d modelling and I'm currently experiencing an issue with regards to double sided materials. I'm attempting to texture the trumpet/ horn section of a gramophone. the final result of the render is really poor and is no where near the desired outcome. I'm not entirely sure if this is due to my render setup, poor modelling or something else.
I am attempting to create a short animation of two asteroids colliding and exploding. I created two spheres with noise and used a bomb to break them apart and added a sphere gizmo for the explosion. Everything is working great, however when I render, the normals are an issue. My asteroid pieces are see though on one side despite checking two-sided in the standard material parameters and checking force two sided on the render options panel.
I need to print a 11x17 brochure double sided. I have a hp laserjet 5500 printer that is capable of duplexing. How do I need to set up my page(s)? Do I use 11x17 size or do I use 11x34 size when I tried 11X34 it shrank it down to fit on one side.
I'm workign on a school project that involves me printing out small double sided tickets. Can anyone offer any help to how I would set this up in PhotoShop so I could drop a sheet in, it would print the tickets on one side, and then i could flip the paper and it would print the back side? With it being lined up?
I used the Autodesk material Library -> Glass -> Clear and set an orange color....
Now my object is quite complex and since i can see through the object when its rendered i cant see the faces that are at the other side, and that very bad.....
So in 3ds max 2010 i had the "Two sided" check-box and it was great but how can a achieve the same result as then....
My printer allows double sided printing. I opened two images in PDN and wanted to printed on one piece of paper (on both sides) and I cannot figure out how to this. Both images fit one page.
way two print 2-sided contact sheets? We use a phaser 8200 for cantact sheets witch can print two sided but i can't seem to find a way two get this done in a effient way. Idealy it would be nice to tell photoshop two print all open contact sheets and just be able two sit it two print them 2 sided instead of individualy.
