May 17, 2013I am trying to create a 3D meshed surface from an irregular shaped solid I created using firstly a SPLINE, FILLET, PEDIT, and EXTRUDE. I have a solid in the basic shape now, but I am trying to create a meshed top and bottom (x, y, z,) to change the contours of those surfaces. I have looked at 3DMesh but it asks for (n,M,) coordinates like it is a regular shaped surface (square, rectangle) where one can calculate the required even spacing needed.
My goal is to create in CAD something like a fine art carved piece of wood, with irregular shaping and no straight planes or surfaces.
I have included a basic picture in JPEG format for your review. This is the item from which I am trying in ACAD 2010 to construct into a usable adjustable form so I may parametric for my needs.

T he problem I'm having is that it's an involved process and most of the time requires too much tweaking - the points in both shapes should be the same and should approximate each other's distances btw the location on both shapes. i have tried to convert the text to shapes and then adjust the nodes, but i dont get any nodes making up each letter(!) the mould tool itself doesnt seem to work. the process first involves stretching the font and rotating it to roughly fit it as close as possible.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Quickest Way To Create Part That Starts Off As Basic Extruded AISC Shape?
Dec 10, 2013I am new Inventor user (2014 version) trying to get up to speed on best practices and the most efficient work flows. I find myself designing individual parts that start off as base AISC shapes (angles, square tubes, rectangular tubes, etc.). These are parts that start off as base extrusions that then have multiple machining operations performed on them. In most cases, the parts are stand along parts that aren't involved in any type of frame.
In these cases, I generally sketch the profile from scratch using my AISC book and then extrude. I'm sure this is silly. Frame generator already has the profile data built in- so why am I sketching these profiles from scratch? But using frame generator in an assembly environment to make a single member part seems silly to me also. Why should there be an assembly file at all? I just want a single part that starts off as some length of some standard profile. Using frame generator in an assembly environment seems like overkill.
What is the best practice for starting off a part with some length of a standard ANSI, ISO, or other profile?

Nov 19, 2012Quite often I need to measure shortest surface distance between two points (electrical tracking diatance) as in pic below. I can do it iteratively by taking a range of slices out of the part (2nd pic) and measuring the cut edge length but it's quite meticulous and time consuming.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Filling Irregular Corners With Weld - Overlap Groove Welds With Fillet Welds
Jan 14, 2013Using Inventor Professional 2013
In the attached assembly, I would like to fill the four corners (see Figure 1) with weld to make one smooth bead around the perimeter of the end cap rather than using fillet weld to lay down four linear beads along the edges. I accomplished this with a groove weld (see Figure 2). However, problems occurred (pasted below) when I attempt to weld this piece to a surface.
Error message:
" Create Weld Feature: problems encountered while executing this command.
example.iam: Errors occurred during update
Fillet Weld 3: Could not build this Fillet Weld feature
The attempted operation had problems trimming and discarding faces. Try with different inputs."
When I had the four original fillet weld beads, I could fillet weld this part to a surface no problem (see Figure 3). When I switched it to a groove weld to get the desired corner appearance, I get errors. I tried to mess around with the tick boxes in the groove weld dialog box to try to fix the problem but nothing worked.
Ultimately, my problem can be solved if I could simply fill the corner gaps without using the groove weld command. This would eliminate the errors associated with fillet welding over groove welds.
Let me know if the attached files do not work. This is my first time uploading an assembly and its associated part files.

AutoCad 2D :: Create Polyline Arc That Mimics Shape Of A Building
Jan 13, 2014I have been sent a client's construction drawing for a care home where i need to design the sprinkler installation. The majority of the rooms have got the same head positions within them, but they have all got a slightly different angle as the building is shaped like a banana. Unfortunately its not a uniform radius that i can tell as the one side is larger than the other.
So my question is this. Normally, on a square building, I drop in construction lines along the bedrooms so that i know my sprinkler heads are all the same distance off a wall, and I only need to line up one side. However, with this building being a curve, and the wall angle being slightly different on each room, how do I place an angled construction line or polyline to act as my set out line for my heads.
