AutoCAD 2013 :: Turning Bunch Of Points Into Solid Object - Loft Command
Mar 16, 2013
I have a bunch of points that I am trying to turn into a solid object. I am doing this by using the 3D poly command and then LOFT, UNION and CONVTOSOLID. this has previously worked well, but this time when I use the LOFT command it does not produce a 'closed' surface, but rather a grid like surface which wont convert to a solid. Are there different settings for the LOFT command, and if so, How do I change them to produce a closed surface?

I am currently working on a project that involves some basic collision simulation of an LNG ship in Solidworks. However, before I can do that I need to turn the ship (which at the moment exists as a series of curves, see attachment!) into a solid object, which I can then export as an IGES file.
So far I have tried the PRESSPULL command and it hasn't worked at all, only produced a "not responding message".

I have a solid that was created by extruding a regioned profile. I have made a lofted item (Yellow), that I will have to subtract from the solid (Green) to create a hole. When using the subtract command, I recieve the following error.
"The selected surface was ignored. Surfaces cannot be subtracted from solids or regions. At least two solids, surfaces, or coplanar regions must be selected."
I have tried convtosolid as well & to no avail.

If I modify a 3D solid and it is left with two seperate pieces it is still one solid piece, even though there are two parts. My question is: What if only need one of those two sides? If I explode the object and delete the one side I cannot change the remaining object into a 3D solid. It remains as surface object.
How can make an object into a 3D solid after exploding it? I belive there is a simple command like union or some other but I can't remember.

Using AutoCAD Civil 3D 2013, now installing Service Pack 1 (kept crashing, this time it's working though), and I'm trying to find the area of a pathway that I've drawn in 2D with standard lines. Using the area tool, I want to find the area of the path, but it arcs around a 180 degree corner. I tried getting a rough estimate of the area by clicking at several points along each of the arcs, but after clicking a point where the arc joins the straight line of the straight section of the path, it literally won't let me click the next point. I can, however, specify the next point as long as it's nowher near the arc. Same goes for the polyline tool.
Just got an error code for the Service Pack installation, too. "A problem prevented the service pack from being installed, contact your administrator. Error 1603"

As you can see, the nature of my model forbids me from making a 3D solid using LOFT.
The top surface is consisted of 3D polyline and arc, which if "joined" will be become a spline.
The bottom surface can easily be joined into polyline.
If I loft the top and bottom, it'll only give me a LOFTED Surface, which is not I want (wanted a 3D solid).

I'm working on a project, and I need to make this collection of surfaces into a single solid object. I tried using sculpt, and after a few hours of trying to find the leak, I have failed. not watertight.
Also, I need to get this thing to a cnc mill, and they keep asking me for 2d drawings, dimensions, and tolerances. I assumed the 3d file would be good enough. How to make a file ready for a cnc, and how to make 2d drawings without putting 600 measurements all over the image? Every time I try to do a 2d object, the whole thing is a mess.

I am following the U-Tube exercise called "Emergency Light (Cabinet) volume 1". I am at time stamp 1 hour 26 minutes, exactly.
In the video they use a Loft command in order to cut a shape out of two sketches numbered 10 & 11. I have been copying exactly and am having difficulty at this stage of the model.
Is there any reason why I am managing to use the Loft command earlier perfectly but not at this point.

I'm trying to recreate a bunch of IV-Studio settings to match a bunch of renders made by previous staff that did not leave behind the assembly files they used to make them in the first place.
I've ran into a problem with some parts displaying incorrectly. (they display incorrectly in the render/in the studio environment/ in the assembly/ and when in the part file) I've played with material and appearance styles but they have no effect, I've also tried quality/performance/compatibility hardware modes.
We have 5 or 6 parts that share the ridge pattern that is causing problems and they are affected in the same way.I'm running XP(32), IV2012-sp2, fx1800 with 6.14.0012.6570 drivers.

I downloaded the .stl file from here, which is a very detailed model of 20mb size:
[URL].....
it can be opened in inventor and is shown as a mesh object. Then I tried the plugin "Autodesk Mesh Enabler" to turn it into a solid. After almost an hour it produced something of 350mb, but it cannot be opened anymore, it crashes inventor immediately. Are there any settings to that plugin to reduce the number of elements that it creates?
I heard Mesh4CAD is a similar tool for autocad. I am installing autocad now, hoping that it is more powerful for these kind of things...
I just need to take measurements and attach new objects to the model, or can this somehow be enabled for mesh objects as well, without converting?

I am trying to loft 4 circles onto a straight path it seems as if they are turning somewhere in the middle, and the shape ends up looking like several 8:s stacked on top of each other instead of the cone-like shape I'm after.
I've tried aligning the first vertices with the "make first" command, but it didn't work. If I go to subobject level of the lofted object and choose Shape > Compare (as I read in some thread I should..), the pop-up window shows nothing (blank, with the pointer in the middle, doesn't matter how much I zoom).

How can I remove the lines in the middle after I press and pull the objects.
Attached is the Untitle.jpg, to make more clearer to you. Blue is the wall and skyblue is the aquarium. I want the back and the front of the aquarium don't have any line in the middle but even I do shade command the fill of the color is still there. Cause if I explode and delete the line in the middle the colors that fill the aquarium are getting rid off See Untitled 2.Jpg to see what I mean. And also how can make the aquarium Untitle 3.jpg transparent?

There is a major bug with CorelCAD LOFT command - when used with 3D polyline objects, it fails and errors out with the following error:
Specify cross-sections in lofting order»1 found, 2 totalSpecify cross-sections in lofting order»Selected cross-section is not a valid type.
The workaround is to set the CCS to the plane of the 3D polyline object and then use 2D polylines to recreate it, move the 2D version, delete the 3D version, Align the 2D version with where the 3D version came from and then repeat the LOFT command.
Has been logged with Graebert under ticket: #12458
To repeat the error, see the test file. There are two radially aligned triangles in each set. The set on the left are 3D polyline. The set on the right are 2D polyline. Attempting to loft the set on the left will cause the error.
Both large and small triangles are respectively co-planar.

I am having multiple problems creating a loft. Firstly, it seems as if the "loft" command remembers and uses history of the objects to be lofted, which in my case meant that instead of lofting the scaled down (correct) version of a shape, it insisted on lofting the former, out-of-scale version. It would be great to know if there's a more conveniant workaround to this than redrawing the shapes (as I ended up doing).
Secondly - and this is where I'm stuck now - 3ds will not let me do a loft with the new, redrawn shapes. The loft accepts two of the shapes, but will not let me select the remaining three, claiming that "the shape has a different number of curves than others in the Loft". My question is thus: What should I do to be able to see and edit the number of curves in the shape, so that my Loft will be valid?

I'm going to be creating a 3d visualization for an existing network of gold mining tunnels and ore veins. What I have are scans of 2d hand drawn pages showing mining tunnels and ore veins. There are a couple hundred of these, each representing a 100' thick slice which get progreessively deeper. My intent is to trace these in autocad and stack them up, create solids, import them into 3ds max. One issue is that the ore veins are in some cases continuous from level to level so I'm thinking of using polylines and the loft command to connect the veins between levels.
how to model this efficiently so the import into 3ds max goes smoothly. Or is there an easier way than the acad loft command to model the veins within 3DSMax?

I have finally created the shell of the complex surface that you see. This is only a section of the part because I cannot show the whole thing for proprietary reasons. I formed solid surfaces using the network command. The propblem is that it will not convert to a solid because the surface seams are not "water tight." When the network command created the solid surfaces, the surface seams do not exactly match the lines so there are gaps in all the seams. I have tried blending, patching, etc. and nothing works. how to convert this to a solid without losing the outlines and the shape?

I am trying to loft a triangle around the path of a helix. I want the top point of the triangle to be facing in such that the ouside surface is flat (in the veritcal direction) for the entire helix and I have the two triangle cross sections oriented to do as much. Whenever I try loft it, autocad associates sides of the triangle that aren't supposed to connect causing the triangle to twist along the path. Is there a way that I can easily tell autocad which sides I want to connect?

I press CTRL+9 to make the Command Line disappear while drawing. When I plot (or when doing a plot preview) , the Command Line appears again by itself. So I always have to turn the Command Line off manually after each plot
The bug still happens;
- if Dynamic Input is turned off or on
- if I plot to a real device or in PDF
- if the Cammand Line Palette i docked or floating.
This is not an issue in AutoCAD 2012 so I guess it has to do with the new way they programmed the revamped Command Line palette in 2013.
