Is it possible to trim a 3d solid using another 3d solid as a cutting edge? I want to cut the edges of a dam using the natural ground surface (which is also a solid) as my cutting edge.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have finally created the shell of the complex surface that you see. This is only a section of the part because I cannot show the whole thing for proprietary reasons. I formed solid surfaces using the network command. The propblem is that it will not convert to a solid because the surface seams are not "water tight." When the network command created the solid surfaces, the surface seams do not exactly match the lines so there are gaps in all the seams. I have tried blending, patching, etc. and nothing works. how to convert this to a solid without losing the outlines and the shape?
View 3 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to cut a solid into two pieces using a non-planar cutting plane? I have been tasked with calculating the volume of concrete damage in a chute block. I have a sketch of the damage on the chute block. I created the chute block as a solid and then drew the damaged area extents using plines. This created non-planar plines. Is there a way to get this to work that will allow me to see the volume of the concrete damage? I need an easy way to do this, there are 50 chute blocks all the same size but with varying degrees of damage
View 1 Replies View Relatedi am having a hatching issue, it seems no matter what hatch pattern i use and what hatch scale, alot of the hatch looks solid instead of the pattern i want, for example i am using currently ANSI37 @ Annotative with a scale of .20 and on the same paperspace page one plan with the hatch shows the cross hatching and the other one below looks solid (see attached) now i can go and say change the hatch scale and it reverts to the cross hatching, but then when i zoom out it goes back to "solid" is it a graphical issue?

Sometimes folks are drafting lines to develop these solids, and keeping the lines on the "solid" layer, rather than moving them to another layer, or deleting them altogether.
I could get folks to run this command before leaving the drawing.
I'm thinking something along the lines of:
Select all entities that are on the solids layer that are not solids.
If nil, great, do nothing.
If entities are selected, let me do something with them.
I'm hoping the following can be modified ever so slightly.

I'm trying to split a single solid body into 2 solid bodies. The problem is that the body I'm trying to split consists of two separate pieces. I can split a body when it is a single piece no problem, but I'm having the problem when the two pieces are not joined at all.
When I try and split it on the origin plane it gives this error:
"Creating parting line failed. Could not build this Split"
When I try and split it on a work plane lying on one of the pieces it gives this error:
"Creating parting line failed. Modeling failure in ASM. Redefine inputs."
Or, another variation on this erorr:
"Creating parting line failed. Split feature could not create two bodies. Change the Split Tool so that split feature can create two bodies."
I have a.3ds file imported into Civil 3d. The object imported as a polymesh in Civil 3d. I need the solid 3d object to do some edit like slice or union and subtract.
The question is "How can I import .3ds into Civil 3d as a solid objects or hoe can i convert polymesh to solid?"
How can I remove the lines in the middle after I press and pull the objects.
Attached is the Untitle.jpg, to make more clearer to you. Blue is the wall and skyblue is the aquarium. I want the back and the front of the aquarium don't have any line in the middle but even I do shade command the fill of the color is still there. Cause if I explode and delete the line in the middle the colors that fill the aquarium are getting rid off See Untitled 2.Jpg to see what I mean. I am making a design on inventor 2013 for a colleague who does not know how to use the inventor.
I want to make the solid and then set something up that allows the user to change a few of the parameters of the solid in a very user friendly way (i.e. a box that says "cylinder radius" and has an input box so the user can enter a value).
I want to subtract smaller solid from bigger solid.I can not understand how to move smaller solid and place it in front of bigger solid.

I have a Toshiba laptop with Windows 7. It has a 500GB HD, 4GB RAM, 16" screen and CorelDRAW X5 and Summa's WinPlot bridge software installed. Everything runs perfectly.
I want to be able to cut vinyl letters from my Summa D75R vinyl cutter and then to cut a different colored outline to be applied over the top of those letters. The letters themselves, that is, the main body of the letters, I can cut with no problem.
I know that I will have to separate the two elements and cut the letters from one file and the outlines from a different file. As an experiment I created a single word with a color. I then created an outline for that word. I deleted the body of the letter leaving only the outline.
I then did a "Convert to Curves" on the outline and imported the image into the WinPlot software that my Summa D75R vinyl cutter uses. I sent the image to the cutter but it cut it as a solid letter. It did not make a double-line cut as it would have to do to make the image an outline.
Previously We have using Solid Edge. Now We have purchased Inventor.So I want to open Solid edge file directly from open option or Import option. I have checked the various file formats which are available with Import option but there is no such option which will allow me to open the .par(solid edge) file. How to open .par file. Also how can i get the technical support from the subscription login?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have recently purchasedAutocad Premium Design Suite and am surprised tofind that Solid Edge files like.par,.dft, .asm,.psm cannot be opened directly in Inventor Fusion. I was told by the reseller that "I have to convert the files into Parasolid or IGES or Sat formats and then the same canbe opened in Inventor Fusion." This is rediculous as the Inventor Fusion claims that " You can open files from any CAD system directly". This is clearly misguiding. know the correct procedure for data transfer?

I've tried using the function in Autocad but it just wont work.
1) I have a solid with vertical walls. I need a solid, were some walls ar not vertical. So I need to move some vertices to the offset of top edge. Please, check a pic.
(yellow edges have to be were are the red ones).I did it with construction lines, but I'm sure there is a more efficient way (with a command like offset).

I used to work in Photoshop and GIMP, but then became sidetracked. I've forgotten half of it. I used to make siggies for others all the time, although I really was guessing my way through some of it. I knew I could do better.
Anyway, I figured it'd be wise to start with a really basic question. I'll use the pic below as an example.
In a pic such as this one, how would you go about seamlessly blending the edge of the picture with the background? (All I did so far was have 2 separate layers; the picture of the hottie, and then behind it of course was just the template where I tried to match the pink from the hotty pic).
I'm also curious about just blending 2 or more photographs together to create a collage. I've done this before, but I know I made it harder and more tedious than it had to be. So.... would a collage have to be done a little differently.
I used to go about all this various ways way back when, but like I said... I've forgotten half my little tricks which I know really weren't the correct and easiest route to go about it.
I have a user who has been using certain solids for years with no problems but now having one.
These are simple flat object types "solid" objects that are simple direction arrows. If I print it from model space they are filled in. If I look at it and/or print it from paper space (in a viewport) it shows up only as an outline of the arrow.
FILLMODE is set to 1, have tried 0 also, doesn't change anything.
Then I need to extrude it, but when I extrude, it's shallow. So this 2D polygon need to have face. I've tried 3DFACE but then I need to add faces manually. Is there any way to just specify this polygon and have it faced?
