Revit :: Rotated Solid Not Cut By Arrayed Extrusion Void
Nov 27, 2013I have created a simple pipe fitting family, a soil vent pipe terminal infact, but I cannot get the solid body created from a rotated profile to be cut by an arrayed extrusion void. I keep getting the error message, 'Can't keep the elements joined'!

Feb 5, 2013I am working a little 'off piste' currently as I am usually designing buildings, however, I have been asked to design a mould for the casting of an additional mass of lead to be appended to the existing lead in the keel of a yacht.
In order to complete this exercise the volume of the mould must accommodate between 26 and 30 litres of lead which is the volume of lead required to give the correct weight.
I have begun this task by creating a new Revit Family (may have been better to create it in a Project Environment) essentially being a large extrusion, with a number of swept blend voids creating the mould cut out. I have determined this using my clients instructions for the type of cross sectional profile, its profile along its length and the footprint. Thing is I now have to work out what alterations are necessary in order to ensure that the mould volume is correct! See 3D View so far.

Oct 26, 2013I am trying to make a void element but whatever I do this message occurs: "Some Void Forms of this family do not cut anything and will be deleted. To make a Void Form cut something else use the Cut Geometry tool." I am using "Model in place" tool -> Generic models.
I use Revit 2014 with Service Pack 1.
Revit :: Material Display When Cutting With Void?
Oct 6, 2013When adding an element, say a door, to something like a wall, if there is a void within the door and everything is set properly to cut out a section of the wall, what is the resultant material colour that you see at the cut?
I've been trying this out and in the Realistic display mode, when I have a door with a recess profile around the frame, in brick I see the brick colour, but in plaster I see a grey which isn't the same as the default plaster colour?
The recess is 12mm into 12.5mm plaster.

Nov 7, 2012I am having problems with void that i cant hide in my project. The void is inside my generic family but wont apply a cut unless i apply a length parameter to it. The problem i that in my project it seems to be visible as a yellow box that will also appear when printed.
Is it possible to hide this in the project by any way?
Revit :: Cutting Void Beyond The Hosting Wall?
Oct 27, 2011I have inserted a recess paper towel dispenser into an interior wall. Then a 1/8" tile wall was added in front of the hosting interior wall. The opening for the recess dispenser only cut into the interior hosting wall, not the tile wall. I tried joining the two walls, but it didn't seems to have any effect. Is there any reason why the walls won't join?

Jan 16, 2013I am creating a tunnel with a profile consisting of multiple radios. In the attached images can be displayed. The problem I have is that by selecting one of the two tunnels and create a void with the profile of the second tunnel and perform cutting geometry indicates that I can not and I get the error message.
If I perform the same exercise to select a tunnel and create a void with a square profile, rectangular or cylindrical deaja if I make the cut geometry. I select the void that did work and edit it to add the profile you require and at the end of the model throws me the error again.
We are working on four computers of the same features and the same version of Revit Building Design Suite 2013, has installed the update 2.

Jun 6, 2012I need to resolve the corner condition where two boards intersect. I am not able to create a void in order to cut the corner for the geometry. I would like to shape more than one side of the board and make it rounded. How do I edit the different sides of the geometry?

The problem is I need to recreate this thing using some other method since I cannot place door and drawer faces on a plane that technically, geometrically does not exist, ie the area a receptionist would sit. Accordingly they too converted .igs to .dwg, but the converted .dwg file is unable to convert into surface or solid, once if it could be converted in surface or solid only we can do further development.

Aug 3, 2011I am trying to convert a mesh to solid in AutoCAD 2010 using the CONVTOSOLID command but I get this message . . .
'Mesh not converted because it is not closed or it self-intersects. Object cannot be converted.'

Apr 26, 2013What is the best way to get a hole table on a converted SW file. Our Engineers use Solid works and I can easily import the file but when I try to create the hole table in the IDW file it comes up blank.
Do I need to recreate all the holes so they are native to Inventor? or I am missing a conversion setting.

Revit :: Display Views On Converted Models?
Sep 30, 2013We just upgraded to Revit 2014. We had several Revit 2013 models we converted. We are now experience some visual issues within Revit. Specifically, on our Exterior Elevation views, though we are using Hiden Line display, we are seeing some "wireframe" lines, like the double line where the roof is cut, we are seeing our floor betwen levels, etc. I was wondering if it was a Service Pack issue. Issue 1 has been released. I tried to install the patch, and received an error that the product is not installed. I have also downloaded the latest certified video driver, but have not installed that till I tried to get the patch updated.

Dec 30, 2012I use Canon 60D and normally shoot in mRAW. I am considering a move to DNG conversion so I did some test conversions and was amazed to find that, far from reducing the size of my mRAW files, it increased them by about 60%. I repeated the exercise with RAW files and found that this did reduce the size of the files by over 10%. In fact, i ended up with the crazy situation where the DNG files converted from mRAW were much bigger than those converted from RAW.
Below are some sample sizes based on Medium previews, Embed fast load data - YES, Embed original RAW file - NO, Compatibility Camera Raw 7.1 and later
Before : mRAW 17Mb mRAW 12Mb
After: DNG 28.5Mb DNG 21Mb
Before: RAW 23Mb RAW 22Mb
After: DNG 20Mb DNG 19Mb
If I went for Full Preview, the DNG sizes rose by about 2 Mb
why the mRAW conversion is so inefficient?
I am still not entirely sure whether to adopt DNG but, if i do, it looks like I certainly won't be using mRAW as the source.
Photoshop :: Void Created During Photomerge Of 8 JPG Pictures?
Sep 1, 2013I am encountering a problem with a panoramic picture created using photomerge and 8 pictures (with photoshop cc)The result was quite good with the exception of one segment not quite properly aligned.
I managed to switch it up by a few pixels and the overall picture is almost "perfect" except that I have at one seam some empty space which I cannot fill by none of the tools like stamping, brushing, patching or even paint bucket.
Now i have a snicking suspicion that the problem lies with the layers but I cant figure out to create duplicate layers and when that can be done.

Aug 5, 2013I have a complex part that will be created using additive manufacturing. Since this type of machining is adding material needed rather than removing material, I would like the make voids and hollow out the part wherever possible to reduce the manufacturing time, and the weight of the part. Are there any features in Inventor that allow you to click on an internal volume and specify a void that produces certain wall thickness? The closest feature I can think of is the Shell feature but that only works for parts with very simple geometry and it doesn't make a void like I would like. The shell feature cuts out material from the face so it is good for making something like a cup but does not make an internal void.

Mar 19, 2012We have this need to have all of the solids in a drawing to be placed in the "solid" layer.
Sometimes folks are drafting lines to develop these solids, and keeping the lines on the "solid" layer, rather than moving them to another layer, or deleting them altogether.
I could get folks to run this command before leaving the drawing.
I'm thinking something along the lines of:
Select all entities that are on the solids layer that are not solids.
If nil, great, do nothing.
If entities are selected, let me do something with them.
I'm hoping the following can be modified ever so slightly.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Split A Single Solid Body Into 2 Solid Bodies?
Sep 19, 2012I'm trying to split a single solid body into 2 solid bodies. The problem is that the body I'm trying to split consists of two separate pieces. I can split a body when it is a single piece no problem, but I'm having the problem when the two pieces are not joined at all.
When I try and split it on the origin plane it gives this error:
"Creating parting line failed. Could not build this Split"
When I try and split it on a work plane lying on one of the pieces it gives this error:
"Creating parting line failed. Modeling failure in ASM. Redefine inputs."
Or, another variation on this erorr:
"Creating parting line failed. Split feature could not create two bodies. Change the Split Tool so that split feature can create two bodies."

Aug 12, 2013I have finally created the shell of the complex surface that you see. This is only a section of the part because I cannot show the whole thing for proprietary reasons. I formed solid surfaces using the network command. The propblem is that it will not convert to a solid because the surface seams are not "water tight." When the network command created the solid surfaces, the surface seams do not exactly match the lines so there are gaps in all the seams. I have tried blending, patching, etc. and nothing works. how to convert this to a solid without losing the outlines and the shape?

AutoCAD 2013 :: Hatching Looking Solid But Its Not A Solid Pattern
Dec 13, 2012i am having a hatching issue, it seems no matter what hatch pattern i use and what hatch scale, alot of the hatch looks solid instead of the pattern i want, for example i am using currently ANSI37 @ Annotative with a scale of .20 and on the same paperspace page one plan with the hatch shows the cross hatching and the other one below looks solid (see attached) now i can go and say change the hatch scale and it reverts to the cross hatching, but then when i zoom out it goes back to "solid" is it a graphical issue?
