I am trying to make a void element but whatever I do this message occurs: "Some Void Forms of this family do not cut anything and will be deleted. To make a Void Form cut something else use the Cut Geometry tool." I am using "Model in place" tool -> Generic models.
I use Revit 2014 with Service Pack 1.
I am working a little 'off piste' currently as I am usually designing buildings, however, I have been asked to design a mould for the casting of an additional mass of lead to be appended to the existing lead in the keel of a yacht.
In order to complete this exercise the volume of the mould must accommodate between 26 and 30 litres of lead which is the volume of lead required to give the correct weight.
I have begun this task by creating a new Revit Family (may have been better to create it in a Project Environment) essentially being a large extrusion, with a number of swept blend voids creating the mould cut out. I have determined this using my clients instructions for the type of cross sectional profile, its profile along its length and the footprint. Thing is I now have to work out what alterations are necessary in order to ensure that the mould volume is correct! See 3D View so far.

I've been trying this out and in the Realistic display mode, when I have a door with a recess profile around the frame, in brick I see the brick colour, but in plaster I see a grey which isn't the same as the default plaster colour?
The recess is 12mm into 12.5mm plaster.
What would be possible reason for a void not having any effect on cutting an object? I created a parametric void.Then I created an object.No change to the object. If I create an object then a void, it seems to work.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having problems with void that i cant hide in my project. The void is inside my generic family but wont apply a cut unless i apply a length parameter to it. The problem i that in my project it seems to be visible as a yellow box that will also appear when printed.
Is it possible to hide this in the project by any way?
I have inserted a recess paper towel dispenser into an interior wall. Then a 1/8" tile wall was added in front of the hosting interior wall. The opening for the recess dispenser only cut into the interior hosting wall, not the tile wall. I tried joining the two walls, but it didn't seems to have any effect. Is there any reason why the walls won't join?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am creating a tunnel with a profile consisting of multiple radios. In the attached images can be displayed. The problem I have is that by selecting one of the two tunnels and create a void with the profile of the second tunnel and perform cutting geometry indicates that I can not and I get the error message.
If I perform the same exercise to select a tunnel and create a void with a square profile, rectangular or cylindrical deaja if I make the cut geometry. I select the void that did work and edit it to add the profile you require and at the end of the model throws me the error again.
We are working on four computers of the same features and the same version of Revit Building Design Suite 2013, has installed the update 2.
I have created a simple pipe fitting family, a soil vent pipe terminal infact, but I cannot get the solid body created from a rotated profile to be cut by an arrayed extrusion void. I keep getting the error message, 'Can't keep the elements joined'!
View 2 Replies View RelatedI need to resolve the corner condition where two boards intersect. I am not able to create a void in order to cut the corner for the geometry. I would like to shape more than one side of the board and make it rounded. How do I edit the different sides of the geometry?

I created a reception desk in Revit 2013 using solid extrusions and void extrusions and it looks really good. The problem is I need to recreate this thing using some other method since I cannot place door and drawer faces on a plane that technically, geometrically does not exist, ie the area a receptionist would sit. The rendering of my extruded desk is attached.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am encountering a problem with a panoramic picture created using photomerge and 8 pictures (with photoshop cc)The result was quite good with the exception of one segment not quite properly aligned.
I managed to switch it up by a few pixels and the overall picture is almost "perfect" except that I have at one seam some empty space which I cannot fill by none of the tools like stamping, brushing, patching or even paint bucket.
Now i have a snicking suspicion that the problem lies with the layers but I cant figure out to create duplicate layers and when that can be done.
I have a complex part that will be created using additive manufacturing. Since this type of machining is adding material needed rather than removing material, I would like the make voids and hollow out the part wherever possible to reduce the manufacturing time, and the weight of the part. Are there any features in Inventor that allow you to click on an internal volume and specify a void that produces certain wall thickness? The closest feature I can think of is the Shell feature but that only works for parts with very simple geometry and it doesn't make a void like I would like. The shell feature cuts out material from the face so it is good for making something like a cup but does not make an internal void.

I have atempted to make a line out of the wall and convert the line into one single wall segment but it always breaks back down to the geometry of arc+ arc+circle exctra is there a way to make the wall one single wall or to make a series of arcs into a single polyline so I can convert it into a wall face?

But when I try to create a rectangular detail, such as in Plan, which contains a CAD file, I noticed that since the center of Revit is not aligned with the center of the dwg, the detail is moved and takes up a very large rectangle . When I try to drag the window "detail of Plan" within the table layout, the rectangle occupies the entire sheet.

I was able to change the textile family color of that chair to the Leather - Dark Brown color which is available in the default material library, but I would rather like it to be of a gray color, maybe medium gray or a dark gray. I could not change the color of the seat fabric to gray, at least I do not see a gray leather in the materials fabric/leather library. How to change the color to gray?

I notice that the dimensions are written like 12' - 10 3/4", with a space between the ' and the - and a space between the - and the 10, rather than 12'-10 3/4", like an old-fashioned person like me would write. Is there a way to control that? I looked into the dimension edit dialog box & couldn't see a way. AutoCAD writes them like I like.

When I am annotating spot elevations in a site plan on a steep slope with retaining walls, the spot elevations keep snapping to points that I don't want them to. When I get close to a point I want to annotate, the spot will jump to another point that is close, such as the bottom of a retaining wall, and I want to annotate the grade at the top of wall.
Snap Off doesn't work.
Is there a setting buried in Revit that can be changed to control this? My guess it that it's built in and can't be changed...

I am using imported Raster images in Revit Architecture 2010 to trace and I need to make them unselectable. I know that I can 'Pin' them so I cannot move them, but I need to keep from actually selecting them. I thought I could use Design Options, but Raster images cannot be moved from the Main Model and thus remain selectable.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've made a few roof hosted families, and they've all been fine in the past. For some reason, with this one, when you load it into a project it appears to be one 'ref level' too high for the roof host, hence revit errors, displaying that it can't cut the roof void.
I assume this is something really simple I should (or not!) have done with the family when I started it, can it be saved?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if there was a way to make conditional formulas with a parameter? So I want a parameter called system. On the pulldown to enter the field under properties.
I want there to be 3 choices (i.e. 1=Air, 2=Water, 3=Gas).
If the user tries to enter any value other than the 3 values specified (whether by typing or pulldown), a message comes up stating they cant do that. The names for the systems have been simplifed for this example but the spelling is critical to the external database. I have tried but but I keep getting the follwoing is not a valid family parameter: X. X because thats the first conditional value.
Revit 2012 .I have a topo file linked to the main building file.I am trying to render a 3d exterior view of the building (new construction ).I see the linked topography in black lines in my elevations.but not in the 3d view.
The question/ problem unsolved is how to get the site/ ground to be visible as per the linked topography in the 3d view of the main file . All I see is the building in the air , with a very light greyed site in a block form. I would like to see the site in earth: soil material for me to render the exterior view.
I have been using Revit and artlantis. I would like to create a .stl file to make a 3D model.
