I want to show a linked view from another proyect that has an underlay ceiling plan,I'm using By linked view option to show exactly the same view from the original project but the underlay RFP doesn't appear. I just want to show the outline of some skylight diffusers from the ceiling plan.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've attached a couple images of a visibility problem I'm having. The ROOF image shows the underlay view I'm using in the NO ROOF view in my revit project. I modeled all four of the dormer roofs the same, in place roof components, and they show up in the roof plan, but not when I use the roof plan as an underlay for my framing plan.
They don't show up when I toggle on the hidden elements tool either. I checked to make sure I didn't have coarse scale visibility turned off as well as if I had not visible in plan unchecked. These things seem fine, plus, as you can see, it shows up in it's own view. View range seems to be fine too. I can't figure out why these elements don't show up.
I have trouble showing Underlay for level view when dealing with in-place walls. Basically, they dont work with Underlays - nothing shows up (even in wireframe mode).

There is a Blend wall that starts on Ground level and goes as high as Top level. When you check whats visible on different levels (and RCPs) everything is fine (views respond to changing cut level and so on) - but when you try to Underlay one of the level views - nothing shows up. Basic idea is to show top edge for tracing with Linework tool - so it shows as Overhead.
I have a model with multiple floors. When I am in Level 2, with Level 1 as an Underlay I can still edit walls and other objects from Level 1. I know there is a way to lock the Underlay, I just can't make it work. Pinning the entire Level 1 is not an options, because this is not View dependent.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm redoing some old projects in Revit, and I'm using a background image to vastly facilitate the process as the projects are almost perfectly drawn, I'd like however, to use a background image as reference and keep the underlay (e.g.: show the bg image for level 2 and over it show the level 1 underlay) but I couldn't find a way to do that.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWe have our first project in Revit that we are having to split among multiple sheets because of the size of the building, so I have made 3 dependent views from the main overall view, named them, cropped them and placed each part (A,B, and C) on separate sheets. Now that I am trying to do enlarged toilet plan views, I want to tag the plans with the plan callouts on the 1/8” sheets that are the dependent views, but all the view tags are referencing dependent view A since it is the first dependent view in the list. If I change sheet A to be named Sheet X for instance, all the view tags now reference sheet B since that becomes the first dependent view alphabetically. I want them to reference the sheet they appear in, but I can’t seem to figure out how to do that, even though they are in different dependent views completely and within the crop region, they all default to the first dependent view in alphabetical order.

I link my site dwg into my Arch central and want the Site to be visible when I link the Arch into other files. I want the Arch to hold the Site link but be able to see the site when the arch in linked into other models. I inserted a CAD link "this view only" and I cannot now get it to turn on in any other view. I used this option so I would not have to hide it in every view. Now do I have to delete it and start over inserting it so it shows up everywhere?

Is there a way of resetting it? I could just make a new view, but I'd have to set the perspective again.
In this view I have hidden all the objects except for the one (a book case) that is being detailed. Every time I model something new it shows up in this view. Is there anyway of stopping new objects showing in a given view?
Why Camera Views is different from all other views in Revit. It is simple not possible to add a view reference, or a tag etc. to reference to a camera view.
Of course I can put in a 'dead' symbol to show where it is in plans, but that's simply not the same...

An architect sent me his revit file, it contains the full model and all the floor plan views and drawing sheets. He has floor plan views set up for each floor and some enlarged views as well. On each floor plan view each room has a tag that contains room name and room number and every door has a tag that contains the door number.
When I create a new file and link in his file so I can then start working, doing what we need to do, adding devices, etc. The problem is, the architect's room tags and door tags dont link in, and if they do I cant see them. I've gone through every possible combination in the visibility/graphics options to no avail.
Room and door info linking in should be a basic function of revit; how could autodesk expect mech, elec, plumbing engineers to create drawings that have zero room and door info?
If it matters, I'm working in Revit 2010.
ive recently started to work with DBLink and access 2013 to make take offs mainly. Today i made a small project to test some ideas and found an inconsistency between the material areas and the area of the element, a wall in this case, to which the material is apllied. I think they should be the same, or at least very close, but that´s not the case when i export to access. I've attached a image with a material takeoff schedule from revit and the correspondent query from access (element type name, element area, material name, material area, material volume, material area/element area). The revit one seems correct, but in access the material area values are very different. Initially i thought it would be due to units difference, like the material area were in sq cm and the element area in sq m, but the relationship between them isn´t 10, as you can see in the calculated value. Then i added the material volume to the schedule and query and the results on access are even more strange, i can´t even imagine where this values came from.

We are new to Revit, and have done a couple of projects in Revit. We have separate models for arch, mech and elect (no struct, this is done outside our office). We currently link models to each other as needed, the architect will link mech and elec. The mech eng. will link arch and elec and so on. Mention the use of a blank model onto which you link all models. I never got a chance to ask the individual how they use it or how it would benefit the process.

View 1 Replies View RelatedHaving been on Revit for more than 8 years there's nothing more difficult to explain to a new user than how the View Range functions. It's one of the first features one must deal with with Revit and yet it can yield illogical results without proper use. The #1 youtube video on Revit's View Range is 20 MINUTES long! Here's my top reasons why View Range is illogical:
1. It does not behave like the "view range" of all other Revit view types. Sections, Elevations, 3d views are all based on a simple concept, a direction, and a 3 dimensional bounding box. With floor plans, elements can appear (or not appear) in a floor plan that is clearly cut so that they shouldn't if the user doesn't understand the rules (and there are lots).
2. It has "Additional View Range Rules" (or exceptions to logic), 7 in fact, which takes Revit Wiki over a page to describe. Each rule is complicated and very situational. No other Revit view types have exceptions. Why floor plans need to have special exceptions is absurd and political. These exceptions must also slow down regeration time of the model since it must process different groups of elements individually to determine their view state in the floor plan.
3. Modern architecture does not adhere to simple boxy shapes and user's need to trust that their view range is actually cutting the surface as they see it. No exceptions or special rules.
4. View Range has a Top and a Cutting Plane elevation. It is completely illogical for any element to appear above the cutting plane. This can easily lead to misinterpretation of 2d drawings because some elements may not appear in section even though they are above the cutting plane. Views should have a cutting plane, direction (up or down in this case) and a depth. Simple, just like all other Revit views.
5. The View Depth "range" is rarely used effectively. The only practical use is to show low roofs of buildings with higher roofs, or possibly foundation elements. Scope boxes or Underlays can accomplish this task much simpler. All the additional line-styles that accompany View Depths are just unnecessary and add more things for the user to manage. It's time to kill View Depth.
It's in Autodesk's best interest to make Revit a user-friendly application. This is one area that needs attention. Keep Revit easy to use without having to watch a 20 minute video.
I am trying to put a URL link to a file in a components instance parameter, to show up in the properties palette, I can put the URL in there, but no link is established. How would I get this to link to the file?

I wanted them to create a drop-down list of materials within the family to allow a user to select from the list of materials. This is accomplished by using a nested family - the inserted family has the materials defined. The drop-down list appears just fine in the properties, but we aren't able to apply it to the extrusion. I have tried inserting each family type and using the Label parameter, but Revit won't allow the link.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm messing around with tables and data links, practicing. I copied a range of cells in Excel, and did paste special to create a linked table.
Now I can delete the table object, but I cannot delete the link, cannot detach it.
When in Data Manager if I right click on the data link and click delete I get the error message "The data link is being used and cannot be deleted".
I have tried detaching, and the detach does not seem to take.
Now also, the table will not update from the source xls.
Win XP, AcadLT 2011, Office 2010. Using compatible setting for saving spreadsheet, for Office 2007 (not xlsx).
If I create a linked table by starting with the Table icon, choose "from a data link", choose the excel spreadsheet, etc., then I am able to later update the table from the spreadsheet, detach, delete the link, etc. But I can only delete the link if the table is not selected when I open the Data Link Manager.
But the one that was created following the directions from the Autocad video, with the copy, paste special, that link will not detach nor delete.
Does Revit DB LInk 2013 is compatible with Access 2013?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWorking on a title sheet (i.e., a logo, and it includes fonts selections) and I can see each font individually on the list of fonts drop down on the System Family dialog, but I wonder if there is a way to see them physically all at the same time somewhere so I could compare each style side to side and see what each looks like at the same time. How or where I see all the fonts included in Revit all at the same time?
