Premiere Pro :: Crash While Rendering?
Mar 28, 2014
When rendering footage in the latest version of premier pro on MAC OS X 10.9.2 no matter what sequence or timeline I am in, premier keeps crashing every time I try and do anything. I have plenty of memory on a brand new MAC computer but it continues to just crash.

I purchased VS X3 on Feb 5, 2010 as an upgrade to X2. I did not try before buying (my bad), I just read the feature list and it sounded good so I plunked down my dough. VS X3, although well meaning is an albatross. No matter what was tried, I was never able to successfully burn a DVD using the authoring module supplied. I have continuing program crash problems when working with mixed content, apparently caused by the transitions between them. For instance just two days ago I was making a short video with AVCHD and some still JPEGs Putting certain transitions between the media causes VS X3 to crash when reviewing and/or rendering. Remove the transition and it goes ok. This behavior is ongoing with X3 and very annoying. So I downloaded the trial of X4 and opened the exact project that was giving me fits earlier this week and guess what? Low and behold it actually works as expected.
My point to all this rambling you may be wondering? IMO X4 offers painfully little in new features and is more of a patched up version of X3 that actually works. Imagine that concept. No more editing in X3 and authoring in X2 for me that is if I plunk down another 80 bucks. I feel a bit put off by my whole X3 experience and feel X4 should be offered to us who bought the POS, non working X3 for free as a good will gesture or something. X4 mostly appears to be a debugged version of X3. Let me qualify these feelings by stating I haven't had a chance to work with X4 enough to be sure it's better, but my comments are going under that assumption. It's hard to think it could function overall worse than X3 does.

I want to render a video that consists of two parts: A small intro (8 sec) and a video (~2min). I want to render it on iPhone 4/iPad HD (720p). Now, after rendering the intro (~9%) the program crashes with the message "Corel VideoStudio Pro X4 doesn't respond..." System Specs in profile.

I recently lost 11 days on a documentary project due to Premiere's crashes, instability and refusing to launch (including almost 6 hours of Adobe tech support in India remote controlling my iMac, trying in vain to fix the issues).
Â
I decided to give Premiere another try today, thinking Premiere's problems might have been related to the Canon XF300 used on the documentary project. Would I have better luck with different media?
Â
I planned a very simple project: different camera (8 clips shot on Panasonic GH3, in the 72 Mbit All-I MOV mode), different media (2 AIFF audio files).
Â
I made a fresh project, and imported the GH3 clips from the media browser. When I tried to import the 2 AIFF files, Premiere crashed.
Â
Now I can’t even get Premiere to launch, despite rebooting and trashing every cache and Adobe preference I can find (user application support, user preferences, and ~/documents/Adobe). This happens with or without plugins in the Mediacore folder (I use all of Red Giant's plugins and quite a few of FXFactory's).
Â
Are there any other secrets to get Premiere to launch? Now that I am locked into the CC subscription, I would like to at least have a program that can launch.
Â
I hate to be negative, but my experience with Premiere has been absolutely horrible (and costly). And every other Mac-based editor I know who has tried Premiere CC is reporting the same instability. Especially for us television editors, stability is FAR more important than new features.

I'm seeing Premiere Pro CC (7.2.1) constantly crash with a few projects when I try to export. The common thread (as I can see) are that they were all started in earlier versions of Premiere.
Â
I'll finish editing, then hit Ctrl-M (or Export -> Media), and Premiere sits idle for a moment, then it crashes. Importing the project sequence in AME allows for encode though.
Â
Checking the event viewer in Windows turns up that the ntdll.dll might have something to do with it.
Â
Here's some of the information I saw:

I have Adobe Premier Pro CC on a laptop windows 8.1.
I can open the software without problem but when i want to create a new projet, open a projet, import media (all actions which needed to use the window's browser) the soft crash and a "adobe premiere pro has stopped working" pop up appears.

I can't find how to render a short segment on the timeline. I did read your suggestion but the squared parenthesis + alt doesn't mark anything. There is no draggable thing to mark a segment like you had on previous versions of Adpbe Premier. I can't find anything in the pull down menus. Your terms in the explanations are not clear either, You need a simple diagram of your own interface with a glossary of words you use to name your tools. This is basic. I have a problem with rendering anything more then 4 seconds at a time too, so I am really up the creek here with a 40 minute film to edit.

I have had premiere fail to open for a while now on one of my secondary PC's. This computer was setup with a network drive as its disk cache/links to projects. This is so multiple editors can work off the same RAID. Works perfectly, aside from the fact that windows somehow unlinked the network drive. Once this happened premiere fails to launch and crashes when starting the program.
Â
I had got the network drive linked back up at one point and premiere launched again running with zero problems. Again windows messed up the network drive, and premiere again, does not work.
Â
I need to reset the settings for premiere (the disk cache settings).
Â
THINGS I'VE ALREADY TRIED: I already tried holding Ctrl + Shift to reset, did not work. I already tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but the settings were not removed and program keeps crashing.
Â
I would just relink the network drive and then once premiere launches change the disk cache and never do that again, but sadly the computer will not relink to that partical drive.
Â
I'm running windows 8, latest version of CC (just updated). I have 32gig Ram, I7 processor overclocked to 4.4GHz, Nvidia Graphics.

I'm running Mac OS 10.8.2, PPro 7.1.0, SG 7.2.
Â
After applying a simple Primary grade in Direct linked SG project, saving and sending back to PPro causes PPro to crash and render the following error:
Â
[/morereel64/releases/2013.09/shared/adobe/MediaCore/MediaLayer/Import erHost/Make/Mac/../../Src/Audio/AudioWaveform.cpp-173]
Â
Then I get a "serious error" dialog and it shuts down.
Â
Re opening the PPro project causes crash after the splash screen.
Â
Opening any other PPro project, direct linking to SG, grading, and returning it to PPro causes this behavior.
Â
This first happened after adding a mask. All transport controls froze, although I could still grade the frame I was stuck on. I saved and sent it back to PPro, and that was the first time PPro crashed. That project is now corrupted and crashes after the splash screen.
Â
Now any direct link to SG causes a crash on return to PPro, and permanently corrupts the project.

It used to be that when rendering a timeline, there would be no lag between rendering the first and second videos. Now, between each video there is about a 30 second transition before the next video begins rendering. Anything that would have caused this, or is there anyway to prevent it? If I am rendering a timeline with 60 clips that need rendering, this can add a significant amount of time.

on my system Premiere Pro CC is only using GPU rendering with AVI output formats.
All other formats like MPEG2, Quicktime, H.264 are unfortunatly fully CPU rendered (=slow).
I just upgraded from trial to payed mode and when Premiere started the CUDA was already enabled (might have activated it during trial already).
Â
But anyway I checked if my card was in the support txt file and also used the cuda.zip auto tool to make sure I had no typo.I did this for Premiere Pro CC and also copied the list into the Adobe Media Encoder directory.
Â
So I started playing with input and output formats. It turned out that CUDA is currently only working with AVI output. I installed GPU-Z to check my GPU usage vs CPU usage in the task manager.
As soon as I pick any other output format than AVI - CPU usage during rendering is up to 80-90 and GPU at 0%.
With AVI output GPU ist around 30 and CPU in the 40ties or less as it should be.One of my old applications Cyberlink Power Produces 11 is doing the h264 rendering in half the time.
 Â
My System is running on:
Asus P8Z77-V Deluxe with 16GB Ram
Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 Ti (with current Driver - 332.21 )
Windows 8.1 Pro 64-Bit (with Media Center) and latest updates
Â
Current entry in CUDA*.txt file (as printed by Adobe GPUSniffer):
GeForce GTX 660 Ti
Â
And already tried:
GeForce GTX 660Ti
GeForce GTX 660

Okay getting completely irritated with these issues of overheating when I even just am rendering a video to get ready for export (and also on exporting)
Â
I have tried setting power controls to the CPU to 80% but using SpeedFan I can see the CPU usage still spiking 90%-98% and heating just keeps rising and rising til shutdown.Idle CPU
Â
-Rendering Usage in Balanced Power Settings
-Rendering Usage in High Power Settings
I really suck at understanding these things. But changing from Balanced to High Power didnt seem to affect the rendering times. But also the time was down at like 20-40 minutes before I started messing with the power controls now its at over 2 hours.
Â
Finished a small render with success but it got pretty hot again and Norton pops up saying High CPU usage by PPro. 100% was hit quite a bit too

I am trying to edit a video for a friend. He shot the video with his phone and it shows up sideways when it is imported to Premiere. Everything works fine till I rotate is 90 degrees. When I rotate it the bar on top becomes red. The audio and video still play perfectly fine though. When I render the video and it plays back, the audio stays the same, but the video speeds up by almost 10 seconds. Also, when I try to just start over with the clip and just reimport it, it will only let me add audio to the sequence. The video plays in the preview, but will not add to the sequence after telling it to render the first time. I have deleted the project, all prefrences for Premiere, and even did an uninstall and reinstalled it.

For the longest time if I ever tried to export or render a video longer than 5 minutes, my Premiere Pro or Media Encoder crashes. I don't know why but it is EXTREMELY irritating when attempting to make lengthened gaming videos. I have tried 15 different methods all online, to no avail. It always crashes around the 40% mark in Adobe Premiere and it isn't a corrupt project.

A common misconception is that CUDA/OpenCL processing is only used for rendering for previews. That is not true. CUDA/OpenCL processing can be used for rendering for final output, too.
Â
But where/what are the options/settings to use CUDA not only for preview purposes, but for accelerating the rendering of the final output, too?
