Photoshop :: How To Stop Automatically Adjusting Raws Despite Options
Aug 31, 2012
it took some effort, and i dont remember all of what i did, but i finally got bridge to stop making auto adjustments on my raw images--though it still does if i zoom in when im full screened.
regardless, when i open a raw image in photoshop, it makes auto adjustments (and they are always hooorriblee).
-all the boxes under default settings are unchecked
- i select 'as shot' for white balance,
and so on; but without fail, every time it makes these ugly over saturated over contrasty or otherwise hideous versions of my images.
im not buying the whole 'digital negative' deal. i can see a full view images of my nondestroyed raw image, and seriously there needs to be a point to all the work i do on set to to get the right light and colors, and so on... im about to reinstall photoshop.
if i dedicate a lot of time, effort, and frustration, i can get them close to what they were, but its so impractical and frustrated to input this additional time for work.

I started noticing this problem a while back in CS5 and it seems to be ongoing in CS6. When I have a group of rows open in ACR, I can make adjustments as normal. Lets say that I have a bracket of images I shot of 10 frames.
I make adjustments on the ones I want to use, rate them and use the "select rated" button. If one of those images has a different color balance than the others, it will auto adjust it to match the rest. If the image that is viewable is the one with the different color balance, it will auto adjust the rest of them.

Using a Hue/Saturation Adjustment layer:
1. Do you ideally want to go through and adjust Reds, Yellows, greens, Cyans, Magentas individually? Are final results not as good if you just adjust the Master by itself?
2. Looking at my imgage, I do not see any blues, however, when I adjust the hue slide while having blue selected, I see some slight changes to my image. I'm guessing that this means that there are some slight blues in the image.
Would you just leave the blues alone in a situation like this, or is there some graph that you use to make changes even if you do not see the colors in the actual image?

I found a photoshop file somewhere on the net and the really fascinating ting about it was one of its gradient layers. I has a behavior I have never come across yet, because whenever you remove certain parts of the layer mask, i.e. paint the bottom half black for example, photoshop adjusts the gradient to the remaining opaque part of the layer.

go to add a text block to an image, a new layer is created. I want to be able to manually create layers and simply click on the layer I want to work under and then do so. I want to shut off this automatic creation of layers. If I don't, I'll have about 200 superfluous ones.

I must have clicked something or inadvertantly pressed a keyboard shortcut or something because a couple of weeks ago, the sub-tools on the tool palette started popping up without me having to hold down the mouse button for a second. Now when I click a tool (the rectangular marqee tool for example), the hidden tools (eliptical marqee, single row etc.).
I'm using PS CS5 on Windows 7.

In our workflow, we have a few users who are doing design work on Windows installations of IinDesign CS6 (2 in WIndows 7 and 2 in Windows 8). On all four systems, we have noticed that when we open files from packaged folders that contain the Document Fonts folder, that InDesign slows to an excrutiating crawl, which makes working on the document near impossible. We've narrowed down this behavior to the AdobeFnt14.lst file that seems to be a result of InDesign opening the file using the fonts in that folder without being told to. Deleting that file will temporarily fix the problem, but InDesign recreates it when you open the corresponding document and then you have to delete it again.
We use Universal Type Cient for our font manager, but as far as I know, we didn't install any font auto activation plugins.
Other than deleting the font folder, we've not been able to figure out how to stop ID from trying to automatically load the fonts. We'd love to just turn that "feature" off so that we don't have the hassle. I'd rather have fonts missing and turn them on using our font manager, than have ID slow to an impossible crawl whenever we open archived files. How to stop ID from automatically loading fonts from a document fonts folder?

Every time I open a RAW file into Photoshop CS5 from LR3, it automatically creates and saves a PSD or TIFF file. Is there a way to stop lightroom from doing this? When I used LR2, I saved these files only if I choose to. I always convert my files to jpg after I'm done editing in PS and don't need these huge files hanging around.

How to stop the UCS from automatically turning to world when extruding a circle?
Example: If you start with a circle drawn to your set 3 point UCS the quadrants are in line with the X & Y but as soon as you extrude the circle into a cylinder the UCS turns the quadrants to world, I want the quadrants to stay in the same place as my 3 point UCS position.
Not sure if it's just a system variable that need changing.

I need to export with artboard. Illustrator automatically adds a number to my original file name. It won't even let me replace the old file. It is extremely annoying and makes flow with other programs really hard because they can't auto update, since the file name changes. When you have multiple files, you can't be manually renaming all the time.

I have a Nikon D7000. Most of the pictures I make are RAWs (NEF). I work often with my own camera-profiles (landscape, vivid, portrait, etc.). One of these profiles is black & white with a touch of sepia. Now, when I open it with PS, the picture is coloured, not B/W. And I can´t find a way how to convert it exactly to the same JPG or TIF like the RAW picture. In the PS-RAW-menue there are only the standard profiles, not mine. Is there a possibility to load my profiles?

I have a jpg(not from camera) grey scale/8bits I save it out as a Photoshop RAW. I leave the raw options set at Header=0 and file type PRAW and file creater 8BIM.I think everything is ok. I then open a seperate converter program called Contenta RAW Converter. I get error "could not load raw image. Now the question is. Is my photoshop RAW file valid? Do I have to enter in a header number or something for my RAW image to be valid?Since my image is not from a digital camera it doest have a header so I am wondering if I have to add one in order for my RAW image to be valid to be opened in another program?I want to use this other converter to change my raw into a bitmap.I dont want to use photoshop as my converter program but thats another story.

I'd like to combine two different RAW exposure settings into a single JPEG. I've done this in the past by importing two RAW files at different exposure values, then selecting from one photo, feathering, and copy/paste into the other photo. This proved to be very time consuming and no where near perfect.
I thought Photoshop CS2's "Merge to HDR" function would be ideal for automating this process, but it won't take the two different RAW imports as input because it knows they're from the same photo.

RAW and open edit all my RAW files in Bridge 4.0.5.11 (CS5). All goes well here until I send the images over to PS5, where upon opening there, they all seem to have a much warmer, yellowish cast.Have I possibly gotten something set wrong in Photoshop that causes this wierd off-color cast?

how to change the default settings in Camera Calibration (ALT changes the Reset to Set Default) and from what I can find, any newly imported RAWs will have these defaults applied. how do I apply these defaults to images already imported?
Also, what I specifically want to change is the Profile: Adobe Standard to Profile:Camera Landscape (for example) and apply that to all the images I already have shot with this specific camera body. So, two questions: Does setting the defaults include the Profile or is it only the "Shadows, Primary Red, Green, Blue" that gets saved as a new default and can these changes only be applied to newly imported RAWs?

I need to import (copy) a large amount of RAWs, but LR hangs unperiodically durring import. While trying to kill LR (or reboot) my iMac freezes such, that I need to power off!

I'm running on LR 5.3, but this problem persisted in LR 5.2. Working in PS CS6 and Camera Raw 8.3. RAWs are NEFs from a Nikon D600.
I can't figure out what happened but suddenly I am not getting prompts when moving from LR to PS to "Edit Original" or "Edit a Copy".
I reset all dialog warnings and nothing. The prompt will appear for TIFFs but not for NEFs.
It's kind of pointless to not be able to choose to edit an original or copy with LR adjustments for a RAW when they are the file types that retain my RAW editing information.
Plus, when I do click on a NEF and choose to edit in PS without the prompt (it will appear with lightroom adjustments, not as original), it will open a second icon for photoshop on my dock, and prompt me to continue trial? I have a version of PS installed with the serial plugged in, and in LR "edit in PS" for a TIFF will open this primary version.

The options window will not display when typing "options" in the command line or selecting from the drop down. The options menu has to be hidden somewhere because AutoCad will not allow any other commands after typing options until I hit escape. I have tried restarting CAD and rebooting my computer with not luck.

I'm not a neither a novice nor a pro when it comes to Photoshop. (Just somewhere in-between) . . . So don't understand why I''m suddenly having problems with colors in my photos looking accurate on my camera, but almost completely red and yellow in Photoshop. Initially though the camera was at fault, until I switched cameras and still had the same problem, so figured it must be Photoshop.
Since Photoshop CS2 has all the features I need, I've never bothered to upgrade. . . which turned out to be a problem when I tried to follow the instructions for creating new adjustment layers. (Was OK until I reached the last step, when my menus were different than those in the guide.) Have spent most of the last 2 days trying to manipulate all the options under the Image Adjustment menu, but am running our of patience and luck.

"Adjusting tsume
Tsume reduces the space around a character by a specified percentage value. As a result, the character itself is not stretched or squeezed. Instead, the space between the character's bounding box and the em box is compressed. When tsume is added to a character, spacing around both sides of the character is reduced by an equal percentage.
To reduce spacing between characters:
Select the characters you want to adjust.
In the Character palette, enter or select a percentage for Tsume . The greater the percentage, the tighter the compression between characters. At 100% (the maximum value), there is no space between the character's bounding box and its em box."
And this is what the icon looks like.
I have selected the text. But in the Character Palette, I just dont see it or cant find it.

I have tried to select the channels and adjust them that way (yes, the entire image needs to be all the same color, with lighter and darker highlights and shadows), but can't seem to adjust them just be selecting them.
