I found a photoshop file somewhere on the net and the really fascinating ting about it was one of its gradient layers. I has a behavior I have never come across yet, because whenever you remove certain parts of the layer mask, i.e. paint the bottom half black for example, photoshop adjusts the gradient to the remaining opaque part of the layer.

I know how to adjust a gradient in the gradient editor, but I need to adjust the position of the colours and the transparency bands on the actual image. what I clicked in the tools pallette to get the handles to appear.
it took some effort, and i dont remember all of what i did, but i finally got bridge to stop making auto adjustments on my raw images--though it still does if i zoom in when im full screened.
regardless, when i open a raw image in photoshop, it makes auto adjustments (and they are always hooorriblee).
-all the boxes under default settings are unchecked
- i select 'as shot' for white balance,
and so on; but without fail, every time it makes these ugly over saturated over contrasty or otherwise hideous versions of my images.
im not buying the whole 'digital negative' deal. i can see a full view images of my nondestroyed raw image, and seriously there needs to be a point to all the work i do on set to to get the right light and colors, and so on... im about to reinstall photoshop.
if i dedicate a lot of time, effort, and frustration, i can get them close to what they were, but its so impractical and frustrated to input this additional time for work.
I am trying to adjust the color of a layer by going to "image" then "adjust", and whenever I try to mess around with something nothing happens.

View 4 Replies View RelatedAfter using Refine Edge in CS5.5 and removing the background from an image, I set it to output as a new layer mask. Next I place the image on top of a background and see that it needs some additional adjustments. How do I now get back to the Refine Edge window where I can see the changes I made previously and modify some of the settings? When I reopen the Refine Edge window the settings from before are no longer there.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to change the functionality of the layers so that when a new layer is created or a layer is duplicated that it automatically is created below the selected layer? I always organize my files with elements at the top of the document at the top of the layers panel and have them in decending order (unless there is a reason for an object to be above another) so that it is easier to navigate the page. Right now this means I spend a lot of time moving layers up and down which gets rather annoying. I believe I saw at one point that there is a key command for duplicating a layer below the existing one, but I can't remember how anymore. ability to make a blanket change in preferences.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'd like to select the whole gradient that I have created on its own layer. So I cmd-click (Mac) on the layer's icon. But after doing this not the whole gradient is selected but only the darkest part of it!
With every other layer it worked so far... But not with gradients...
I have a GIF image that I need to add something to, but I don't want to add it to every single individual layer. Is there a way to add it over or behind the entire GIF so that it remains static while the GIF's frames cycle - like a watermark or something?
Or if not, is there maybe a script-fu that copies and merges a selected layer over every other individual layer automatically, without messing them up?
I know I'll probably have to just end up manually adding it to each layer, (so many layers...).

View 4 Replies View RelatedI created a image (with blank background) with dimensions 640 x 480 (its my default working image).
I have copied photograph with dimensions 7300 x 4200 and pasted as new layer on the image (640 x 480). Obviously, the pasted photograph is bigger and it couldn't be showed totally. I am adjusting the size of the photograph manually, dragging and dropping its corner lots of time.
I tried to use "image => resize" / "image => canvas size". But it just act on my default image (640 x 480), not the photograph (even when its layer is selected).
So, is there any way of resize the photograph automatically to fit in the default image (640 x 480)?
I found out that there is a way to show clipping areas in Photoshop when adjusting levels via an adjustment layer. While moving the slider, you hold down the ALT key.
I tried this in PSP X3 and it does not work. Any feature for seeing the clipping preview is available in Paint Shop Pro? It's a nice feature.
radial gradient on the same layer. I was watching a tut and im pretty sure he was doing just that but he didnt say how he was doing it. I tried the ctrl,shift,alt buttons combinations but everytime it just gave me a new gradient not adding another.

I regularly work on large Photoshop files with many layers and folders within folders and always have the problem moving a folder only to find that somewhere inside there was a layer with an unlinked mask and it gets left behind. Is there a way i can 'relink all layer masks' without having to manually go through and relink them all? Similar to the 'Close all folders' option i guess...

Does anyone know how (or if its possible) to scale a layer with layer effects (scaling the layer effects settings as well)?? My problem is I have a logo with multiple layer effects done to it. I now need to transfer that logo onto other sized documents. When I do that and try to scale it all of my settings do not scale with it. ie. a 5pt stroke effect on the logo stays at 5pt even though the logo is now huge! I can not rasterize the layer, I need to keep the sharpness for high end printing.

The problem is that I cannot get the gradient itself to change after I have used the Gradient Editor to make it 90% Black on the left & 10% gray on the right.
Seems this color choice in a Layer mask would have the desired effect, but after editing the gradient still it looks & works the same as the default. (No Change to the Gradient)

I have a lot of photos then I intend to make a macro for editing it to make more precise the name of the file is saved in the image.
For some reason, every time I use the "Refine Edge" option after making a selection, then hit "OK", Photoshop creates a new layer with a mask on it, instead of simple leaving the selection outline there and letting me decide what to do with it (which was the previous behavior).
How do I make "Refine Edge" NOT create a new layer or anything like that?
I'm finding that having to click the "commit transform" check mark after every adjustment to be annoying. Is there a way to automatically commit transform by clicking a new layer? or make middle click commit the transform?

e.g.
The red rectangle implies the edges of the gradient. It's a horizontal gradient.What I'm after is for the gradient to be applied in a way that uses the shape layer for the edges... so the same value will be applied evenly to the left side of the shape and then spread evenly to the right. Is this possible?
I want to combine two photo's and have a gradual transition. So I move one photo into the other, select layer mask, then gradient, drag left to right, and presto I have a nicely merged photo. However I would also like a gradient from Top to Bottom (and left to right) on the same photo. How do you apply mutliple gradients to the same photo? If I select gradient again, it just overlays the first. I want two or more gradients.

Layers 2 thru 200 are images that need to be merged with the base layer individually and then saved as individual files. We are now turning layer 2 on and saving, turning layer 2 off, turning on layer 3 then saving, etc. Hoping to find an easier and quicker method.
i'm trying to fade out the last few inches of a photograph so it blends more seamlessly into backgrounds it's placed onto.If I use the gradient tool, set to "Foreground to Transparent" I get the proper effect, but instead of fading to transparent it fades to white.. which dosen't work when I move the layer over a coloured background.
I've read and watched many tutorials on this, and they all say to create a layer mask, and then use the gradient tool.. but for some reason anytime I have the layer mask selected the gradient tool won't work at all..
