When I apply a gradient to a shape layer, the gradient is always applied as a rectangle.
e.g.
The red rectangle implies the edges of the gradient. It's a horizontal gradient.What I'm after is for the gradient to be applied in a way that uses the shape layer for the edges... so the same value will be applied evenly to the left side of the shape and then spread evenly to the right. Is this possible?
I have a curved shape which is a light color. I want to create a dark outline and have it fade into the light color as a gradient would, uniformly following the curved shape.

When converting a vector or Illustrator file (such as a logo) into a shape layer any gradient fill is lost. Is there no way to ensure the gradient fill is converted across or is this a matter for a future release of After Effects?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to modify my companies logo for our new catalog by applying a gradient to it. I've tried to do this in both Illustrator CS4 and Photoshop CS4 and for some reason I can't get the gradient to apply only to the logo. Instead, it applies the gradient to the background. The logo is saved as a JPEG, so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it.

View 9 Replies View RelatedIn PS i can Magic wand selection shape from one layer, drop to sub layer and copy that selected shape from that sub layer. How do I do this in illistrator, and moreover, from multiple layer at the same time.
For instance, in PS = Import an image of gold - select a text phrse with wand - drop to gold - copy paste = gold text.
a photo in xara is actually a bitmap filled shape, so if you just try applying another fill, eg linear, it will replace the bitmap completely
so what you need to do is draw a rectangle over the photo - apply the fill you want to the rectangle - and then give it a transparency of type hue
now come the reservations - hue transparency has no affect on black/white/grey-tones, so you may not end up with an even fill as you can see from the example
you may wish to contone the bitmap first... the underlying color will still affect the fill to some extent... as can be seen from the green band in the examples..
the chosen fill ramp gives a rather nice effect on the original I think, but is a bit extreme on the contones...
[I find it useful for adding gradient color to raster line art, sometimes quicker than going into a bitmap editor and painting on color whilst preserving transparency...]
I'm in the process of making a collage which consists of several layers with elements cut out from photographs (=these elements make up the composition). All elements have their separate layer.
My question is how can I apply a gradient overlay to a selection or 1 element(=on seperate layers).
I found how I can apply a gradient overlay but this is for the whole image instead of 1 specific element in the composition.
I have a complex shape that has a cutout to the edge and I would like to apply a radius.I can, of course, play with nodes etc. but is there an easy way to do this? I use combine and weld etc. but the problem is ensuring the edges touch on both faces.

View 12 Replies View RelatedIn Photoshop CS6, when you have a shape layer with a layer mask, and the two are not linked together, and the layer mask is selected, you should be able to scale the layer mask independently of the shape. What actually happens is the shape gets scaled and the layer mask stays untouched. In fact, even if you option-click on the layer mask to show the mask by itself, and then try to scale it, you still end up scaling the shape instead of the mask. Even if you go as far as to make a pixel selection of the layer mask and attempt to scale the pixels, the shape still gets scaled and the layer mask still stays put! Unbelievable!
This works correctly in CS4, but not in CS6 (don't know about CS5).
Using Illustrator CC. I made a sphere shape and reshaped it using a warp effect.
Now when I try use a transform command (reflect or rotate) it only effects the “original” bound box which is the sphere I first made, and not my warp effect shape. My question is can I modify a shape after I apply a warp effect?

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy question is about gradients and anti-aliasing. I'm using PS 7.0 and what I want to do is use the custom shape tool, and fill the shape with a gradient. Not difficult, but here's where I get caught. After the shape is filled, I'd like the edges to remain anti-aliased.
For example, if I use the custom shape tool to create a hand print with anti-aliased edges, then use the magic want to select it. Next I grab my fore and back colors, choose a linear gradient and drag it in the appropriate direction. The selected shape is filled the way I want, but when I deselect, the edges have become pixelated. Is there a way to avoid this and keep them smooth? I tried using the blur tool and blur filter, but they don't quite have the same look.

With every other layer it worked so far... But not with gradients...

A technique I use often in my ui work is to combine a texture with a gradient that fades the gradients color and the pattern to transparent.
In Fireworks, this can be done on a single layer with no mask. The transparency of the gradient affects the pattern.
This is not the case in Photoshop. I am wondering how I can accomplish the same thing in Photoshop, while keeping everything vector.
Illustrator keeps freezing when applying an effect such as texture-grain to a simple gradient, or even rasterizing a simple black circle. My system is about a 6month old macbook pro with 16gb ram, i7 and AMD Radeon HD 6770M 1024 MB. What could be causing this? It wasn't like this when i first started using the laptop but has started to do it everytime i try and do any of those simple tasks recently.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm in the process of prepping individual components of a design for Flash animation. I'm trying to apply a layer of #7C6844 with the color effect at 56% opacity and a layer of #999999 with the color burn effect at 12% opacity to the foreground image which has a transparent background. This task has proved to be rather impossible for me, but it seems like there should be a way to do it. I would use the wand tool > select inverse and apply the colors over top that way, but the foreground image has a lot of leaves and branches, so that method would be extremely tedious.
Is there a way I can select the entire image as a whole and leave out the background?
I'll attach the image and the desired result to further assist.
I can't figure out how I can use a text or shape layer as a mask for the layer below. See the example attached and you will know what I mean. (I created the example with simply cutting out the text outline from the white box).
I need the text to be a mask and I need it to be editable as text. Don't know if this is possible, experimented with clipping masks but I cant make it work.
