Photoshop :: Applying Gradient To Shape Layer?
Oct 21, 2013When I apply a gradient to a shape layer, the gradient is always applied as a rectangle.
e.g.
The red rectangle implies the edges of the gradient. It's a horizontal gradient.What I'm after is for the gradient to be applied in a way that uses the shape layer for the edges... so the same value will be applied evenly to the left side of the shape and then spread evenly to the right. Is this possible?

Illustrator :: Modify A Shape After Applying Warp Effect?
Mar 16, 2014Using Illustrator CC. I made a sphere shape and reshaped it using a warp effect.
Now when I try use a transform command (reflect or rotate) it only effects the “original” bound box which is the sphere I first made, and not my warp effect shape. My question is can I modify a shape after I apply a warp effect?

Jun 25, 2012Illustrator keeps freezing when applying an effect such as texture-grain to a simple gradient, or even rasterizing a simple black circle. My system is about a 6month old macbook pro with 16gb ram, i7 and AMD Radeon HD 6770M 1024 MB. What could be causing this? It wasn't like this when i first started using the laptop but has started to do it everytime i try and do any of those simple tasks recently.

Dec 17, 2012Completely unlike the way Illustrator worked in previous versions, when I rotate a shape (say a square) that has a gradient in it, the gradient does not rotate with the object. For example if it is a black to white gradient and initially the black is at the bottom of the square, if I rotate the square instead of the gradient moving to the top, it stays at bottom. Same thing if its rotated to other rotations, 45 degrees moves the black to a corner etc. I can't find this anywhere, is it a preference? I've had 2 installs of Illustrator now on 2 clean Windows 7 installs and its still the same. A very frustrating workflow being that I am an animator, I don't want to have to manually change a gradient everytime I do another frame.

T he problem I'm having is that it's an involved process and most of the time requires too much tweaking - the points in both shapes should be the same and should approximate each other's distances btw the location on both shapes. I'm wondering if there's another, more direct way to, let's say, take a letter and get a falloff gradient in the shape of the letter...
just realised that a drop shadow might work....i need the gradient to eventually become a mask...

May 24, 2013The letter "A" on the left is filled with a radial gradient. The letter "A" on the right is the same except I used offset path to expand the shape of the letter "A" but the gradient doesn't keep it's original coordinates and the outside shape of the offset "A" does not match the gradient of the original inside "A". I need the gradient to expand out with the same center coordinates as the gradient inside the original "A". I can't just scale the "A". I need both shapes of the "A" but filled with the same gradient.

Mar 8, 2013I am trying to make a shape made from the blob tool made into hafltones. I do not want it as a gradient, just equal sized halftones throughout the shape. Is this possible?
When I do it using Effects/pixilate/color haltone it makes multiple colored halftones, whereas I just want one color. And when I change the channel's it comes up with similar results.

Mar 6, 2012I need to draw a transmission gear with spiral teeth, rather than straight teeth on a typical gear. I know how to work the extrusion tool, but I can't get the shape to twist so the teeth are all aligned.
Is there any way to do this in Corel Draw X5? I'm pretty sure Corel Draw is sophisticated enough to do something like this, I just can't figure out how. The manual shows how to extrude, but nothing really beyond that.

Jan 29, 2013I am creating a shape that looks like a pill a rectangle with two circles on the ends, if you will. But it's all one shape. I want a gradient or blend (what exactly is the differnce?) that has a white middle and dark gray edges. The white goes along the pill horizontally but the dark gray is above and below this white "line" but the rounded edges of the pill shape are the dark gray. I'm using CS6.

In the example below, I essentially want the anter to cut out it's outline shape into the axe. Same with the shield over everything.
This is essentially so I can place the logo over all sorts of backgrounds, without having to have a white outline on it.

May 23, 2013Cs6 here.... I am trying to cut out a simple shape to allow the area under the shape to be trasnparent or Alpha. Like a Mask. Except when I use the Mask it does at it should do and mask the area where the shape is and MASKING or removing the areas not under the mask. I tried Compound path but I am not getting any result from it. My shape stays right on top of my work and does not "cut it out" to allow the Background to shine through as an alpha channel. See pics for clarity. I want to reverse this where the circle is cut out and the rest stays visible...

Jul 4, 2013I'm doing an offset path command on a random shape and I need to repeat that in 4mm increments. I noticed that this command is far from accurate. To be as precise as possible I copy the base shape, paste it in front, apply the offset path command +4mm, +8mm etc (since the shape has round edges I chose round and a miter of 5000), and expand appearance. However, at 8mm expansion the round curves become pointy curves and therefore not mimicking the original shape.

AutoCad 3D :: Sweep Spiral Stair Channel Shape Along Spline?
Jul 3, 2011I am once again trying to get the hang of drawing a 3D spiral staircase and cannot seem to figure out the SWEEP command properly. I have a channel, or a rectangular tube shape which I want to use for the stringers. If I use a round tube, like when I do the handrail, there is no trouble. But when I use a channel or rectangular tube shape the SWEEP command causes the shape to bank and I end up with an unuseable shape.
In the attached drawing (ACAD-2007 format) I have shown a SPLINE which indicates the path I want the outside stringer to follow.

When I change the stroke weight from the Strokes menu arrows or by scroll, this action changes my path's shape and distorts it. You can see the problem below:
