Illustrator :: Gradient Does Not Rotate When Rotating Shape

Dec 17, 2012

Completely unlike the way Illustrator worked in previous versions, when I rotate a shape (say a square) that has a gradient in it, the gradient does not rotate with the object. For example if it is a black to white gradient and initially the black is at the bottom of the square, if I rotate the square instead of the gradient moving to the top, it stays at bottom. Same thing if its rotated to other rotations, 45 degrees moves the black to a corner etc. I can't find this anywhere, is it a preference? I've had 2 installs of Illustrator now on 2 clean Windows 7 installs and its still the same. A very frustrating workflow being that I am an animator, I don't want to have to manually change a gradient everytime I do another frame.

Illustrator :: Gradient Along Irregular Shape And Contour?

Sep 23, 2010

i already know that in order to get a gradient to follow the outline of an irregular shape you could do a "blend" with smooth colour'

T he problem I'm having is that it's an involved process and most of the time requires too much tweaking - the points in both shapes should be the same and should approximate each other's distances btw the location on both shapes. I'm wondering if there's another, more direct way to, let's say, take a letter and get a falloff gradient in the shape of the letter...

just realised that a drop shadow might work....i need the gradient to eventually become a mask...

Illustrator Scripting :: Read A Number From A Variable And Rotate A Shape

For example there's 2 text variables and 1 number going from 0-359. I'm looking for a script which looks at the variable name and pulls the number, then uses that number to rotate a shape by that many degrees.

Illustrator :: Make Halftone Effect For Solid Shape Without Gradient?

When I do it using Effects/pixilate/color haltone it makes multiple colored halftones, whereas I just want one color. And when I change the channel's it comes up with similar results.

AutoCad :: Repositioning Via Rotate - But Not Directly Rotating

Oct 25, 2011

I'm trying to have some advanced positioning - I don't know if this can be done using dynamic blocks. Start with some basic geometry - let's say a triangle - /. Now, I can add a rotate parameter & action that will let me spin that as I wish.

Next - add a couple attributes. I have a pair of attributes, separated by a text, aligned as "A1.A2" A1 is right-justified, and A2 is left-justified, so when edited they remain in the form "A1.A2" regardless of length. I can now add a point parameter, combined with a move action, that will let me reposition these three entities freely.

My question - can I have the rotate action trigger a move, such that the text repositions to a defined location without changing orientation (DON'T rotate the text!)?

So if I start with (leading . used for positioning in this forum text box):. A1.A2

I want to rotate it to: A1.A2

While I'd love to have it totally self-adjust, I mainly need it to handle 45-degree increments of rotation. Is there a way of expressing this using dynamic blocks using action and/or constraints? Or would this require a lisp construct?

AutoCad 2D :: How To Rotate Crosshairs Without Rotating Drawing

Mar 6, 2013

Moments ago my crosshairs in the model space decided to rotate. I tried to undo, but apparently the damage is done.

I came across a thread on another website about trying UCS, world & plan etc which I tried.

While this did rotate my crosshairs to be straight and normal again, it rotated all of my drawings I have numerous sections on the page and unfortunately they all became rotated.

Is there a way to rotate the crosshairs and not change my drawing?

GIMP :: Ability To Rotate View Without Rotating Image Itself

Aug 25, 2013

I've noticed that in Paint Tool SAI (which I really wish I could buy but I have no money) has two things I wish GIMP could do.

1: SAI has an ability to rotate the view without rotating the image itself.(rotating a graphics tablet to comfortably get the pen stroke right.) Is there any way this could be implemented into a new update of GIMP?

2: SAI has really good pressure sensitivity and natural *smooth* pressure strokes. I've kinda noticed GIMP is geared more towards Mouse/Touch pad art creation; is there any way to get pressure sensitivity into the program?

I'm afraid to use GIMP anymore because the whole program takes about 20 minutes to load, from clicking the application icon on my desktop. Once it's up though, it functions well. Even after I close it out, and end up clicking the application icon again, it takes another 20 minutes to load up.

AutoCad 2D :: Can't See Object(s) Rotate In Real Time When Rotating Using Grips

Jan 30, 2012

I like to think of myself as pretty competent in AutoCAD but I can't figure this one out for the life of me...

I hope I can explain this clearly: When I rotate an object using grips, the object is not shown spinning in real time. I select the object, pick the object's grip, hit <Enter> <Enter> to go into the rotate command and the object will rotate maybe 45^ or so and freeze (visually).

If I use the command line "Rotate" command, the selected object(s) spin in real time or if I use grips to rotate but then use an object snap, it begins to spin in real time for some reason.

I would like to use grips to rotate my objects and be able to see them rotate (like I used to in previous releases).

I have ACAD Civil 3D 2010.

Photoshop :: Custom Shape With Gradient

Aug 15, 2006

My question is about gradients and anti-aliasing. I'm using PS 7.0 and what I want to do is use the custom shape tool, and fill the shape with a gradient. Not difficult, but here's where I get caught. After the shape is filled, I'd like the edges to remain anti-aliased.

For example, if I use the custom shape tool to create a hand print with anti-aliased edges, then use the magic want to select it. Next I grab my fore and back colors, choose a linear gradient and drag it in the appropriate direction. The selected shape is filled the way I want, but when I deselect, the edges have become pixelated. Is there a way to avoid this and keep them smooth? I tried using the blur tool and blur filter, but they don't quite have the same look.

When I apply a gradient to a shape layer, the gradient is always applied as a rectangle.

e.g.

The red rectangle implies the edges of the gradient. It's a horizontal gradient. What I'm after is for the gradient to be applied in a way that uses the shape layer for the edges... so the same value will be applied evenly to the left side of the shape and then spread evenly to the right. Is this possible?

Photoshop :: Pattern And Gradient Fading To Transparent Single Shape?

Jun 2, 2013

I'm coming from Fireworks.

A technique I use often in my ui work is to combine a texture with a gradient that fades the gradients color and the pattern to transparent.

In Fireworks, this can be done on a single layer with no mask. The transparency of the gradient affects the pattern.

This is not the case in Photoshop. I am wondering how I can accomplish the same thing in Photoshop, while keeping everything vector.

Illustrator :: Front Shape Appears Thinner After Subtracting From Back Shape

Jan 13, 2014

I'm using CS3 on a Mac.

I outlined my text and subtracted it (and the tree image) from the black background. When I did this both appear thinner - particularly the tree.

If I then take the original version and the new subtracted version, and view them both overlayed one on top of the other in wire frame (outline) mode, there is no difference in the actual lines.

It seems to be a problem with the way illustrator previews the images. This wouldn't concern me, but when I export the file as a jpeg, the lines also appear thinner in the export.

I can create a manual solution by offsetting the path before subtracting, but this isn't ideal.
