Photoshop :: Applying Gradient To JPEG

Jan 30, 2009

I'm trying to modify my companies logo for our new catalog by applying a gradient to it. I've tried to do this in both Illustrator CS4 and Photoshop CS4 and for some reason I can't get the gradient to apply only to the logo. Instead, it applies the gradient to the background. The logo is saved as a JPEG, so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it.

Photoshop :: Applying Gradient To Shape Layer?

Oct 21, 2013

When I apply a gradient to a shape layer, the gradient is always applied as a rectangle.

e.g.

The red rectangle implies the edges of the gradient. It's a horizontal gradient. What I'm after is for the gradient to be applied in a way that uses the shape layer for the edges... so the same value will be applied evenly to the left side of the shape and then spread evenly to the right. Is this possible?

Xara :: Applying Gradient Fill To Photo?

Dec 30, 2012

a photo in xara is actually a bitmap filled shape, so if you just try applying another fill, eg linear, it will replace the bitmap completely

so what you need to do is draw a rectangle over the photo - apply the fill you want to the rectangle - and then give it a transparency of type hue

now come the reservations - hue transparency has no affect on black/white/grey-tones, so you may not end up with an even fill as you can see from the example

you may wish to contone the bitmap first... the underlying color will still affect the fill to some extent... as can be seen from the green band in the examples..

the chosen fill ramp gives a rather nice effect on the original I think, but is a bit extreme on the contones...

[I find it useful for adding gradient color to raster line art, sometimes quicker than going into a bitmap editor and painting on color whilst preserving transparency...]

I'm in the process of making a collage which consists of several layers with elements cut out from photographs (=these elements make up the composition). All elements have their separate layer.

My question is how can I apply a gradient overlay to a selection or 1 element(=on seperate layers).

I found how I can apply a gradient overlay but this is for the whole image instead of 1 specific element in the composition.

Illustrator :: Drag Global Color Swatches From Color Panel To Gradient Stops In Gradient Panel

Aug 28, 2012

I have CS5. The bugs and broken features in AICS6, make it unusable in my workflow.

I am specifically concerned about the inability to drag global color swatches from the color panel to Gradient stops in the Gradient Panel. I use this method to update a gradient color because I find it MUCH faster than option-dragging to duplicate a stop color, then deleting the unused stop. Since I do this constantly, I find using CS6 very tedious.

Photoshop :: Applying Color Change To Many Layers At Once

If I could put a tag on each heading, and then apply a single color change to all layers having this tag, it would make things so easy ?

I even tried changing my brush to red and Overlay mode, it just won't let me color the image at all. I've tried hue/saturation, and when I try to save the adjustment, it converts right back to B&W. Photoshop :: Trouble Applying Color/layer Effects To An Image With Transparent Background.

Jul 30, 2005

I'm in the process of prepping individual components of a design for Flash animation. I'm trying to apply a layer of #7C6844 with the color effect at 56% opacity and a layer of #999999 with the color burn effect at 12% opacity to the foreground image which has a transparent background. This task has proved to be rather impossible for me, but it seems like there should be a way to do it. I would use the wand tool > select inverse and apply the colors over top that way, but the foreground image has a lot of leaves and branches, so that method would be extremely tedious.

Is there a way I can select the entire image as a whole and leave out the background?

I'll attach the image and the desired result to further assist.

Illustrator :: Difficulty In Arranging Graph Elements In CS6

Aug 18, 2012

In every version up to CS 5, I could use the direct select tool to select an element of a graph (e.g., a tick mark, an axis or a data point) and move it to another layer. This was very useful because it allows one to hide certain elements or, more importantly, choose which element appears on top when two elements (e.g., two data points) overlap without having to break the graph.

I can't seem to do this in CS6. Is there a new trick I need to learn here or has this functionality intentionally been deactivated?

Lightroom :: Color Settings (Red Or Blue) Not Applying On Label In Develop Module

Jul 18, 2010

Today is the first day with Lightroom 3, where I have over 200 photos from an event, that I am walking through each photo.  I am in the develop module and I am setting the color label to red or blue.  What seems to be constantly (not every time) happening is when I click the color for the label, LR will move to the next photo, but not apply the color label.

As I write this I'm trying it out to notice a pattern.  What I see is photo 1, I click on the red label and the photo is labeled red and LR moves to photo 2.  I click on the red label and LR does not set any color label and moves to photo 3.

Another thing that happened is I was then at photo 3 and clicked on the blue label.  LR did not set the blue label but jumped to photo 4 and put the blue label on that photo

How to change the keyboard shortcuts for applying Color Labels to photos? I have Keyboard Tamer, and I was able to remove the shortcuts for applying star ratings, but there seems to be no way to change the commands in Photo > Set Color Label.

See, many times a day I will click the white balance color temperature fileld and start typing "5500" only to then realize that the click on the entry field didn't activate it and I have now inadvertently changed the ratings and/or label colors for several photos. Super frustrating to then have to undo a bunch of times, especially when I'm viewing based on rating and/or color label, because photos can spontaneously vanish from view.

Photoshop :: Unwanted Color Gradient After Photomerge

Jun 4, 2012

I got an annoying problem with a weird color gradient that appears where it shouldn't. My context is, that I'm producing underwater photomosaics. I use Photomerge for merging, which works great for the often uniform seabed sediment images.

[merge1.jpg]

The example is 65 images, btw. After placing the images manually within Photomerge, all looks great and ready for a perfect result after rendering (see above). However, when doing so, the final merge from within Photomerge (by clicking the OK button) creates perfect smooth blending, but a weird color gradient crossing the whole mosaic.

this might originate in the fact, that the individual images also are not perfect, due to the uneven lighting situation underwater. In case all images are a bit reddish at the top and yellowish at the bottom, the final gradient over the full mosaic shows that as well. So to me it looks as if Photoshop just tries to be too smart and thinks, reapplying that pattern to the whole would be a great thing to do, which it isn't of course.

[merge2.jpg]

I discussed this "bug" with Adobe staff and they recommended, to create the merge with the "Blend Images Together" option in the "Load" dialog unchecked. This creates a mult-layer document after rendering, with the images being placed properly but not blended.

[merge3.jpg]

From here on, Adobe staff  recommended, I shall use the "Auto Blend Layers" function (File menu), but the result is identical as image 2. Ok, then, they recommended, to uncheck "Seemless Tones and Colors" in the "Auto Blend Layers" dialog. Indeed, this gets rid of the gradient, ...

[merge4.jpg]

... but shows very hard edges of the images, which get very prominent after optimizing levels:

[merge5.jpg]

Was that understandable? How this could be handled in a way, that my resulting mosaic looks as perfect with respect to the original colors as in the initial merge window before rendering it (image 1)? Maybe it's a specific Color Setting (Edit menu)?

The problem appears, btw, in CS3 to CS6!

Photoshop :: Color Top / Sides Of 3D Cube Or Rectangle With Gradient

Jun 2, 2013

I am using PS CS6 extended on Win 7.

Two Questions

1) How do I color the top and sides of a 3D object, made by extrusion a rectangle, with a gradient color?  In what I am doing.... I don't really care about the "texture" of the 3D rectangle, I want the top and sides to match the gradient I made on the face of the rectangle. I see the in properties of the extruded material the diffuse, specular, illumination and ambient settings.....but none of these lets you pick a gradient color.

I "guess" I can make separate layers to build a 3D rectangle box, and warp/distort the visible top and side after coloring it with a gradient..........but it seems like this is the idea, or part of the idea of a 3D object.

2) Why is there no true 3D rectangle objects, only cubes (spheres, pyramids, etc.)? Can you scale the cube into a 3D rectangle, if so how?
