I downloaded CS6 for the MAC and have been using it fine, come to use Photoshop 6 on my PC upstairs and a PDF which has been saved now opens on the PC but as one layer not the 20 layers that it is built up from.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI exported a project as a pdf by clicking Save As under the file menu, then I saved the original psd by choosing Save As again and selecting PSD this time. When I came back to the project today all the layers had been merged into one. I _never_ merged them myself. Is there any way I can recover all that work or have I been hosed by this "feature"?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am unable to save a completed project as a jpg file even after carefully merging the layers. The only way I can do that appears to be to use Save for Web - and I do not want to compress the images as web images. Also, in Elements 9 I could open a PSE file in layers and continue to edit - in 12 I cannot do that. I'm really very discouraged and wish I had my Elements 9 back.

I like to keep my layers carefully named. I often create new layers over existing ones to build up effects and paint in details. When I merge these layers, Photoshop always assigns the new merged composite layer the name of whatever the topmost layer was. I would much prefer it to default to naming the new layer whatever the bottom layer was called. I'm using CS5.5.

I might start with my assets in a file, with layer names like: Model, Field, Product, Logo, etc... Then add effects on layers called, Shading, Highlight, Package Detail, Lettering, etc... over each original layer. When merged, instead of being named the more-appropriate names, it will of course use the top layer names and I end up with my layers called "Shading, Highlight, Package Detail, Lettering. It's made much worse when I duplicate effects to modify and apply to multiple layers, then merge, leaving me with a file with layer names "Highlight, Highlight Copy 1, Highlight Copy 2, etc..." Renaming to my original layer names is very tedious as a result.

I know the Alt/Ctrl/Shft/E shortcut, but this requires turning evertything off except the layers to be merged. In a large doc with some layers already turned off, turning everything on and off quickly is not always straight forward.
Is there a way of merging linked layers perhaps?
I've recently reopened a piece of art in illustrator but the layers are now merged. Is there a way to separate the layers to the way they were or do I have to start all over?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a capstone lab project due tomorrow for my graphic arts class and I made a HUGE mistake!!! I created an image using 20 something layers and did SAVE AS as a .xcf image (with all layers open). Part of the project was to save in different formats: .xcf (with open layers), a .png, and a .jpeg (optimized). So, I did the first save and then flattened the image to SAVE AS a .png with a different file name.
Long story short, I was tired and had way too many images open at once. When I was closing all of the images I accidentally saved the changes (flatten image) to my original .xcf (with open layers)!!!! Now, my .xcf that is supposed to have open layers only has one layer...the finished project!! I tried going to the file properties to restore a previous version, but it says that no previous versions were found! I also downloaded a norton "unerase" utility, but maybe I am not scanning properly to locate the file!?!
I download an image of the net of a dog with a .png transparent background. open in paint it's showing the transparency which is great, now say i make another image (not a layer) of 400px, by 400px, and fill it white, I'm so used to in photoshop just dragging transparency masks/layers from one image directly into a new image,

I've tried everything in paint.net even tried making a new layer, filling that white, bringing the transparency image to the front. so the white layer is behind the transparency one, then copy/cut to the new image with a filled in "white" background.

but all that copies across is the transparency layer, unlike Photoshop there's no copy merged, move merged option. so how do you get to cut/move a bunch of layers as 1 into a new image either by drag and drop, or cut and paste?
I've been fiddling with settings and layer orders for a while now, but I still get issues!

Everytime I export a PSD from my Illustrator CS5 file, it wants to merge the last few layers together! If you look at the pics, there is nothing special, or different about the layers that get merged (the last 3 in the layer order on the pics). I've tried even putting a blank layer in between to see if it would just merge that, but then it'll merge the last 3 layers, along with any blank spacers I've put in!
In Photoshop, there is a shortcut that does the following:
Ctrl + Alt + Shift + E — You’ll get a new layer at the top of the layer stack containing a merged representation of all visible layers (handy for sharpening adjustments, etc.).
I tried this in PSP X3 and it doesn't work. Does it even possible to do this in PSP? I know how to merge all the layers in PSP but all the merged layers then disappear. The Photoshop feature keeps all the visible layers and merges them into a combined merged visible layer.

I finished, saved my front and back as a .pdf everything is good. When I save the document as .psd again and close the file, the next time I reopen, it has 0 layers, everything is flattened. I've never had this happen before and am scared to close down the file I am working on for fear that it might not return.

I had this happen once already earlier today on a seperate business card. I knew I saved my final copy as a .psd and when I opened that .psd up again to find that there were no layers, but one flattened image. Is my PS corrupted? Or did I miss a simple check box somewhere?

This is the original document I'm working on. I saved 2 .pdf files from this .psd...For Good measure I save the .psd above as a "test" and then open it up in another window. Notice how the thumbnail has a curved triangle shape. Also the file size is only like 9 mb...very small for my normal size
Ok, so I open it up, and this is what I see. One flattened picture. No layer masks, layers...anything.
I frequently save layouts I do in Photoshop as PDF's. Lately I very often will discover the text does not display correctly in the PDF. One or two lines of text will display as white with a thin black outline, rather than as the basic solid black I'd specified.

I work on a Windows 7 machine with the current version of PS. The text is on layers when I save the file to PDF (from PS), but I do not include the layers in the PDF, so they should be flattening down.

I noticed a few weeks ago when it was also doing this that I updated the program a day later and the PDF's were not exhibiting this issue. But, now it's starting again.
I have a problem with the PSD file, size 228 MB. When electricity turned off, my computer shut down then I turned on it and opened the PSD again but there was only one locked layer filled in black and no other layers. I can not see other layers that was saved before. and here is red line on the top. How can I return my works back?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a client who insists on receiving final files as PDFs saved as Illustrator Default with Preserve Illustrator Editing Capabilities ticked. This wasn't an issue until I upgraded to cs6. In cs6 I'm saving the native file as cs5, and then saving as PDF with the following options:

The client is able to open the PDF in cs5 but the layers are all flattened into a single layer. Is there way to Preserve Illustrator Editing Capabilities for any version other than cs6?
I have now exactly the same problem as below with over 1000 images, I have saved them in .psd that has over 100 layers each. On top of those there is curves and levels layer that affects every layer below. I want to save all images to .jpg for videoedit with those curves at least. I don't want to merge same curves 100 times. Is there a solution in phothoshop cs5 or cs6 available? Would save alot of working hours. All I have got by this far is blank white images of adjustment layers and non adjusted jpg-files.

And say I created 3 adjustment layers on top of those 100 layers to get the adjustments that i want for those layers.  I'm happy with the adjustments but Then I NEED to merge those 3 adjustment layers to ALL those 100 layers. Â
Is there a way to easily permanently apply the adjustments to each of those layers without having to do it manually? I absolutely need to merge the adjustments to the seperate layers because of how the layers are being used in a seperate 3d program.  Â

So far what I've been doing is duplicating the adjustment layers for each layer and merging them to said layers separately.. I wish I could just right click the adjustment layer and Tell it to merge to everylayer it affects or apply to every layer underneath it!
For no apparent reason, all Saved or Saved As sarted being saved correctly, but with the same - and incorrect - date.Â

I've attached a screen shot of icons that appear to show what seems to remain of one of the files. You will see it has 3 different icons that correspond to it. One a 'thumbnail'; one a 'meta' and one an 'exec' file.
View 15 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded Photoshop from CS2 to CS4 (11.0.1). If I use CS4 to save a large multi-layered Photoshop .psd file as .tif (Layer/Flatten image/Discard hidden layers), (File/Save as .tif, LZW, Interleaved, IBM PC) the resultant .tif file cannot be read by many other programs. File viewers (Faststone, MS Paint, QT Picture Viewer, Windows Photo Gallery) either fail to display the images, display the images incorrectly, or display a black screen. Neat Image fails to open the files due to incorrect bit depth.  (Faststone shows the bit depth as 40 bits). PTLens fails to open the files with the dialog "Only RBG images are supported". This has become a significant problem, since I routinely distribute images to others as .tif files. Similar Photoshop CS2 saved .tif files open with all the above viewers/programs with no problems. (no longer have CS2 installed)
View 6 Replies View RelatedI don't seem to be pluggin in the correct set of keywrds to bring it up in the search if it has. Here's my dilemma. I just bought a new computer which came preloaded with Vista, and uploaded my old copy of CS3 onto it. The program seems to be working fine, except that when I open a file in Photoshop and edit it, then save it in a new file (as I do for most of my photoshoots, etc), or even when I save it in the orignial folder, the new "saved" file will not show up in the Vista folder. If I go back to Photoshop and open the folder via File>Open, I can access all of my pictures, but to I cannot access them to upload to the internet, email, use in other programs, etc. If I go into "Recently Changed Documents" I can find them, but they seem to be in a temp folder in the Adobe folders. But again, if I go back to Adobe, it says they are in the folder I put them in.

some names of the files being saved contain non-latin characters. these file names will be incompatible with some web browsers and serversSo, there are like 300 pics, and I've tried moving the pic to a new file with the same size, cut/paste, copy/paste and printscreen/cut/paste... and I still have this message... and this only happens with this pictures...
If I open a JPEG file of say 75kb, make some modifications and save at max. resolution (to avoid as much degradation as possible) it ends up 225kb. Question how would I retain the original 75kb? Why would max. add kb if there are only 75kb to begin with? I would assume the max. would leave it as close to the original as possible.
