way of making a merged copy of a number of layers?
I know the Alt/Ctrl/Shft/E shortcut, but this requires turning evertything off except the layers to be merged. In a large doc with some layers already turned off, turning everything on and off quickly is not always straight forward.
Is there a way of merging linked layers perhaps?
I download an image of the net of a dog with a .png transparent background. open in paint it's showing the transparency which is great, now say i make another image (not a layer) of 400px, by 400px, and fill it white, I'm so used to in photoshop just dragging transparency masks/layers from one image directly into a new image,
I've tried everything in paint.net even tried making a new layer, filling that white, bringing the transparency image to the front. so the white layer is behind the transparency one, then copy/cut to the new image with a filled in "white" background.
but all that copies across is the transparency layer, unlike Photoshop there's no copy merged, move merged option. so how do you get to cut/move a bunch of layers as 1 into a new image either by drag and drop, or cut and paste?
I'm working on a tutorial for doing a website mockup in Adobe PS. In one of the steps, it says:"With the header area selected with a mask press CMD+SHIFT+C to Copy Merged, then paste on a new layer."
This doesn't make sense to me because I don't know what reason there would be to add a mask to the header layer. And even when I try it doing what they say, it doesn't do anything. Here's a link to the tutorial: URL]....
I am new in Photoshop version CS5 I am trying to copy some different layer and merged to new image. Without successful.
I add attachment for example.
I try to merged two layer
| layer is blue color
|| layer is purple color
I selected the two layer by arrow mouse And I go to menu edit Copy Merged but this feature is not enabled.
After this I should type ctrl + n and past the Copy Merged.
I have a pretty simple design. Some text and shapes all expanded and turned into outlines. I have one shape that was created by using a clipping mask. I am putting a vector distress pattern over the whole design (like I usually do and it works fine) well I merge them together and everything is completely fine except the shape created with the clipping mask it disappears..
more info: i actually released the clipping mask and I am still having the same problem with this object, it disappears when merged with the vector distress pattern.
I exported a project as a pdf by clicking Save As under the file menu, then I saved the original psd by choosing Save As again and selecting PSD this time. When I came back to the project today all the layers had been merged into one. I _never_ merged them myself. Is there any way I can recover all that work or have I been hosed by this "feature"?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI don't see a "Copy Visible" function, does one exist that does it? Basically I have 10 layers, but I want to copy/paste the 'visible' area to stick in a test harness without having to manually flatten the image first.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am unable to save a completed project as a jpg file even after carefully merging the layers. The only way I can do that appears to be to use Save for Web - and I do not want to compress the images as web images. Also, in Elements 9 I could open a PSE file in layers and continue to edit - in 12 I cannot do that. I'm really very discouraged and wish I had my Elements 9 back.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI like to keep my layers carefully named. I often create new layers over existing ones to build up effects and paint in details. When I merge these layers, Photoshop always assigns the new merged composite layer the name of whatever the topmost layer was. I would much prefer it to default to naming the new layer whatever the bottom layer was called. I'm using CS5.5.
I might start with my assets in a file, with layer names like: Model, Field, Product, Logo, etc... Then add effects on layers called, Shading, Highlight, Package Detail, Lettering, etc... over each original layer. When merged, instead of being named the more-appropriate names, it will of course use the top layer names and I end up with my layers called "Shading, Highlight, Package Detail, Lettering. It's made much worse when I duplicate effects to modify and apply to multiple layers, then merge, leaving me with a file with layer names "Highlight, Highlight Copy 1, Highlight Copy 2, etc..." Renaming to my original layer names is very tedious as a result.
I've recently reopened a piece of art in illustrator but the layers are now merged. Is there a way to separate the layers to the way they were or do I have to start all over?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been fiddling with settings and layer orders for a while now, but I still get issues!
Everytime I export a PSD from my Illustrator CS5 file, it wants to merge the last few layers together! If you look at the pics, there is nothing special, or different about the layers that get merged (the last 3 in the layer order on the pics). I've tried even putting a blank layer in between to see if it would just merge that, but then it'll merge the last 3 layers, along with any blank spacers I've put in!
In Photoshop, there is a shortcut that does the following:
Ctrl + Alt + Shift + E — You’ll get a new layer at the top of the layer stack containing a merged representation of all visible layers (handy for sharpening adjustments, etc.).
I tried this in PSP X3 and it doesn't work. Does it even possible to do this in PSP? I know how to merge all the layers in PSP but all the merged layers then disappear. The Photoshop feature keeps all the visible layers and merges them into a combined merged visible layer.
I am working on parsing the psd file and saving the data as per doc of photoshop 6. I need to make an image from the layer data alone with different combinations of layers selected, visible etc... and not using the merged data section in the file.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI often will copy a layer in the layers palette via option drag. If the original layer is linked to another, the new layer is also linked to the orginal layer I copied as well as any other layers that original was linked to.
Is there anyway to option drag to copy a layer in the layers palette without the new layer being linked?
in a tutorial in PSCS6, I am told to "make a mask for the layer and then copy the layer into its own mask" I am given the key combo "opt+click", apparently to copy this layer into its own mask. This does nothing and I am lost.
I use iMac i7 and lion 10.7.5
I am trying to get a white layer with see through writing which reveals the background image underneath. (Almost like I have put a stencil over a photograph). I have discovered this is called a clipping mask.
However, I am having difficulty using a clipping mask over multiple text layers. It seems to only do it to one layer directly beneath. I do not want to merge the text layers as I want to mess about with the design a fair bit.
I do a lot of texture work and create depth by using several layers and different blending modes. I wind up masking and remasking the same thing on multiple layers -- is there a way to copy the mask on one layer and paste it onto another? I know I can drag a mask to a different layer, but that removes the first one.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if it is possible to convert/copy a clipping mask to a layer mask.
The reason is, that I have a textured layer, and a highlight layer. By selecting the highlight layer and creating a clipping mask, I get the effect I want.
But... I want to save the highlight layer on its own (as a PNG), in it's clipping mask state, but without the background textured layer.
If I copy the highlight layer and paste it into a new document, it looses the clipping mask. Same if I hide the texture layer.
I want to copy objects from illustrator to use in photoshop, but the eps file that i am working in has a clipping mask and when i attempt to copy objects in that file from illustrator 6 to photoshop 6, portions (in some cases) all of the object turns black or gray. I'm sure this is a simple noob error (hope my question is clear enough), and it's driving me nuts. I have searched for solutions using terms "clipping mask, black, copy, move, illustrator, photoshop, etc."
Here are the print screens to show you what i get in ai and ps -
(see blue outlined oval object selected - opaque white gradient)
(when moved to ps, opaque whitish oval turns black)
I am trying to make an assembly copy as separate project using the iLogic Design Copy feature.

I am also have no any possibility to chose the Content Center folder in the iLogic Design Copy feature as it does not showup there.

when I select, copy and paste the image it still has the content that I removed using the layer mask.
I want to paste it over another psd whilst maintaing the transparency.

I am watching a Photoshop Tutorial, and the Instructor Is adding a Adjustment Layer to the Image.
His Adjustments Layers have no Layer mask, and he Is applying custom mask by Alt-Clicking on the Adjustments Layers. But all of my Adjustments Layers have a Mask next to it, even If I Alt-Click.. " Which Is OK",
But, I wonder how his Adjustment Layers have no Mask. How can I apply an Adjustments Layers, with no mask next to It. Also, I think The Instructor, Is a Mac user, and I am a PC User..
What is the difference between Mask layers and Adjustment layers? I work with Photoshop Elements 2.0 and really dont know what a Mask layer is or if it is exactly the same thing as Adjustment layers.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm using CS6 and noticed that whenever I delete a layer that was a dupe of another layer with links (although not linked specifically to the deleted layer), the undeleted original layers become invisible on the canvas even though they are still visible in the layers pallette. I've been able to recreate this several times. Nothing I do will make the layers visible -I've tried moving them all to the top of the layers palette, making sure their opacity is 100%, making sure there are no layer effects, etc.
View 2 Replies View Relatedworking on Layers and Layer Mask to obtain see through multiple Layers effect.Below is the description of my problem that I am looking forward towards resolution in this forum. I will be glad if some expert can guide me on this.
I have three layers of different colors as below.
Layer 1topmost layer) with Red color filled rectangle.Layer 2(below Layer 1) with Green color filled rectangle.Layer 3(bottom most layer, below Layer 2) with Blue color filled rectangle. When I erase something with brush on Layer 1 using masking Layer 1, it hollows the erased part and start showing the Green color of Layer 2 in hollow section of Layer 1.
What I want to achieve is that, when I erase Layer 1 using layer mask, then it should hollow Layer 1 as well as Layer 2 and should show Blue color in the hollow section of Layer 1.i.e: Hollow section made on Layer 1(using Layer Mask on Layer 1) should also be applied on Layer 2 so that Layer 1 and Layer 2 becomes hollow using eraser and I should see through Layer 1 and Layer 2 and Blue color of Layer 3 should be visible from the hollow section.
Though I can do this by Flattening Layer 1 and Layer 2 together so that it forms one single Image, and then when I hollow this Flattened image using Layer Mask, then it will show me Blue color. But I do not want to do this, as I would lose the flexibility to unhollow/recover the hollow region on both Layer 1 and Layer 2 independently in the future.
Is it possible to create an adjustment layer that affects the area outside a path? I can only get it to apply inside a path.
I am editing several thousand images of sterling jewelry. Part of the editing process is desaturating the sterling while leaving the gemstones unaffected.
I have no problem doing this, but am looking for a more effective method.
My original method was to create a path outline around the gemstones. I would use the path to create a selection. At this point the gemstones would be selected, not the silver, so I would invert the selection so that it selected the sterling, not the gemstones. Then I would create a new adjustment layer and desaturate it.
This method works fine, but the mask for the selected area is a bitmap and takes up a lot of space. I am trying to use a vector mask instead.
I can skip the converting to a selection step, and PS will use the path itself to mask the affected area. This is great, and will save many gigabytes of storage space. The only problem is that PS will modify the gemstones, and not the silver.
I can't figure out a way for PS to apply the adjustment layer to the area OUTSIDE the path instead of the inside. Is this possible?
