View 1 Replies View RelatedIv applied a smart Filter on a layer that I have done a lot of masking work on. By applying this smart filter do I lose all my masking information? Is there a way of applying the two effects on the same layer?

View 14 Replies View RelatedYou can apply a mask to smart filters, but I can't find a way to apply a vector mask to smart filters. As a workaround I make a selection from a path and make a filter mask from that selection. That works just fine, but I'm still wondering if it's possible to apply the vector mask directly to the smart filter.
View 7 Replies View Relatedin a tutorial in PSCS6, I am told to "make a mask for the layer and then copy the layer into its own mask" I am given the key combo "opt+click", apparently to copy this layer into its own mask. This does nothing and I am lost.

I use iMac i7 and lion 10.7.5
I do a lot of texture work and create depth by using several layers and different blending modes. I wind up masking and remasking the same thing on multiple layers -- is there a way to copy the mask on one layer and paste it onto another? I know I can drag a mask to a different layer, but that removes the first one.
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy subject line pretty much sums up what I want to ask.
The thing is I've learned how to do both of them, but every textbook exercise I've done regarding one I found out that I can pull off with the other too.
Are they simply two different mechanisms for doing the same thing?
I have been trying to copy a mask from one layer to a new layer in Elements 11. I can do this in CS3 by using alt and dragging to the new layer. It doesn't work in Elements 11. Is this feature unavailable in elements 11 or is there a different command? there doesn't seem to be much point in spending all that time making a complex layer amsk and then being unable to use it on another layer.
I have to give a tutorial on layer masks using both CS3 and elements at the Camera Club!

Once I use a Clipping Mask on a layer is the entire document covered in a mask?
Â
And/or is all the artwork from then on inside the mask?
Â
I've read about how to add and how to remove art from a mask. I've read about how to make and release and lots of other things.
Â
So, then I went and found a lesson that contained the use of a Clipping Mask.
Â
I am suppose to Select the main shape and "just" copy it and move it down (doesn't say rather to Paste in front or back but I assumed in back ~ not that it has mattered thus far)
Â
However, while making the main shape I used Gradient Mesh and used an Offset to create a "replica" and so when I go to Select the main shape the mesh is selected and so when I Paste (in back ~ seems most logical) and then move it down the details such as the colors of the Gradient and other such things are visible in front ~ ??
Â
So, I have been trying to abate my problem in lots of different ways.
Â
I have tried using the Pen tool to draw behind the main shape, I've tried making a New Layer and placing it above and below and inbetween the main shape layer, I've tried adding the artwork to the Mask ... I've tried everything I can think of and I've been through many an article in the manual and FAQ's to no avail.
Â
I suppose, what I think I need to know ... is, how ... how on earth do I draw behind this main shape? Am I not able to do it because I am not getting behind the Mask?
when I select, copy and paste the image it still has the content that I removed using the layer mask.
Â
I want to paste it over another psd whilst maintaing the transparency.

Problem: Transform applied to Smart Object fails to transform an attached Smart Filters Mask.
Â
I mean a Transform, including Free Transform, as found in the Edit menu. A simple move by the Move Tool is OK.
Â
A workaround until this bug is squashed is to encapsulate the Smart Object + Smart Filters + Filter Mask inside another Smart Object and transform that. However, that will not be a satisfactory solution in some cases. If a filter has size parameter(s), e.g. Gaussian Blur radius, a scaling or warping/distorting transform applied after the filter will obviously differ from the filter applied after the transform.
Â
In any case, the workaround is inconvenient to subsequent editing and experimenting with filters and masks.
I need a smart object mask, I converted the layer to a smart object, using the mask panel to add a mask, I'm not getting a smart object mask instead a regular layer mask. I searched the adobe documentation.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen using adaptive wide angle on a smart object, the smart object mask does not change while the image does.
This results in a double image where the mask doesn't fit the new image. How do we get the mask to change with the image?
Masking after AWA is no better. This is equivalent problem with lens correction.
Â
I've tried AWA on the mask, no luck. Sure I can dupe the layer & rasterize and mask, etc., but I dont want a bunch of extra layers and MB.
I will get into the sharpen dialogue box, set the correct values, the picture looks fine at this point, then click OK. After that, photoshop will then reduce the level of sharpening I have added. I have no idea why it's blurring my sharpening but it's driving me mad. Does anyone know what's causing this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a digital camera by Pentax called the Optio. It has one of the best features ever which lets you take a standard picture the go in to options and choose to filter out any color except shades of blue or shades of red or shades of green, thus everything else goes black and white. Can someone help figure out how to do that in photoshop?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm a user of Corel x6 at the moment and it works perfectly. I wonder if there's a sort of VHS filter/mask available to be used with Corel x6 so the digital copy looks a bit 'damaged' and as if it was recorded in the 1980s.
View 3 Replies View Relatedhow to manipulate the size of the wipeout for a text mask.Â
Simply selecting the masked text in C3D 2011 provided pick boxes at the four corners of the wipeout, making it very easy to manipulate the size of the wipeout box. I'm hoping to do the same in C3D 2012, but the wipeout seems to be treated like a block and lacks the pick boxes.A system variable maybe?
While creating various circular masks with a radial gradient from white to black, whenever I change the blending mode of the mask path Ai will throw me out of mask mode into layer editing mode. Since this is on a large document of ~2Gb file with multiple artbords for large poster & UI refresh speed is slow, this has become quite frustrating. Is this normal Ai behaviour?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI made a wax seal on Photoshop with a lot of embossment, bedevilment and a Smart Filter. It's done and I just need to make it smaller so it fits well on my certificate. When I resize it (Ctr + T) It pops up a message that reads:Â

Adobe Photoshop CS6 Extended
Â
"Smart Filters applied to layers contained in this group will be turned off temporarily while the transform is being previewed. They will be applied after committing the transform."
Â
OK
Â
[] Don't show again

Â
I click OK and I re-size the layer with free transform, and then hit enter. The Layer is resized but my Smart Filter which creates a wavy affect around the seal is totally distorted.
Â
How do re-size my layer with smart filter without affecting the smart filter aspect of the layer.
I was wondering if it is possible to convert/copy a clipping mask to a layer mask.
The reason is, that I have a textured layer, and a highlight layer. By selecting the highlight layer and creating a clipping mask, I get the effect I want.
But... I want to save the highlight layer on its own (as a PNG), in it's clipping mask state, but without the background textured layer.
If I copy the highlight layer and paste it into a new document, it looses the clipping mask. Same if I hide the texture layer.
the key functionality lost is the ability to use the previous layer mask for a new layer

I want to copy objects from illustrator to use in photoshop, but the eps file that i am working in has a clipping mask and when i attempt to copy objects in that file from illustrator 6 to photoshop 6, portions (in some cases) all of the object turns black or gray. I'm sure this is a simple noob error (hope my question is clear enough), and it's driving me nuts. I have searched for solutions using terms "clipping mask, black, copy, move, illustrator, photoshop, etc."
Â
Here are the print screens to show you what i get in ai and ps -
Â
(see blue outlined oval object selected - opaque white gradient)
(when moved to ps, opaque whitish oval turns black)
I can do one or another, but both at the same time? It is annoying because a mask selection turns into layer selection when you select a second layer/folder.
View 2 Replies View Related(CS3) I have a raster layer that has some semi-transparent pixels.
I'd like to make the layer itself fully opaque, and move the contents of its alpha channel into a layer mask.
(If possible, merging the alpha channel with what I have already placed into the layer mask.)
Is there a difference between selecting your layer and clicking Add Layer Mask Icon versus having that layer selected, hold down ctrl and select Add Layer Mask Icon?
Also regarding working in Lightroom, if I modify a jpeg, select another image from filmstrip to work on and then go back to the first image for more work, are those actions degrading image even though I never physically save and close.
I am using PSE 11 and need a hint as to how to duplicate the picture layer and then add a layer mask. Still trying to figure this thing out.Â
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've often been annoyed by the fact that that I need to go into the layer panel each time I need to switch between editing a layer and editing it's mask. Surely there must be a way to do this with a shortcut. I found a way to disable the layer mask in the shortcut menu, but this is not something I need to do that often. Switching between layer and layer mask, however, happens all the time - at least in my workflow.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI can't figure out how I can use a text or shape layer as a mask for the layer below. See the example attached and you will know what I mean. (I created the example with simply cutting out the text outline from the white box).

I need the text to be a mask and I need it to be editable as text. Don't know if this is possible, experimented with clipping masks but I cant make it work.
