What is the difference between Mask layers and Adjustment layers? I work with Photoshop Elements 2.0 and really dont know what a Mask layer is or if it is exactly the same thing as Adjustment layers.

I work in Animation painting Backgrounds. My files are sometimes upwards to 200+ layers.I will use adjustment layers to quickly balance colours and constrast on top of those many many layers.
The only way that I know of how to apply adjustment layers it to every single layer ( by applying I mean I need to get rid of the adjustment layers because we cant use them in production but i need the new colours be applied to all layers underneath ) in a psd is to manually do it By duplicating the adjusment layer 200+ times and then merging each layer to one of those adjustment layers so that that layer can take the adjustment layers effect permanently.
The issue is that Within Those 200 layers I have some layers set to Multiply or OVERLAY. IT obviously wont apply the adjustment layer properly to those layers because those layer blend mode affect the layers under them. The colour wont be the same anymore in the spots that had the multiply blended mode.

I have 2 adjustment layers up top. I need to get rid of them by applying them to each layer! I cannot merge any of the layers. We need all those layers for production.I can apply the adjustment layers manually and this works GREAT for all Layers set to normal. THey take on the colour change just FINE.
However, The issue is that layer 6 and layer 4 are both set to mutiply and this screws up the colour once i apply the adjustment layers to each layer manually...
How can i apply my adjustment layers to a file like this with some layers being set to multiply while keeping the layers exactly the same configuration and The new colour taking effect exactly how i looks before i apply the adjustment layers? Now the simple solution is to merge the multiply layers to the layer that it affects HOWEVER I NEED those multiply layers to be separate!
I want to add the same 3 adjustment layers to about 20 photos and then in scripts, export layers to files, so that each photo includes the adjustments.

I have now exactly the same problem as below with over 1000 images, I have saved them in .psd that has over 100 layers each. On top of those there is curves and levels layer that affects every layer below. I want to save all images to .jpg for videoedit with those curves at least. I don't want to merge same curves 100 times. Is there a solution in phothoshop cs5 or cs6 available? Would save alot of working hours. All I have got by this far is blank white images of adjustment layers and non adjusted jpg-files.

And say I created 3 adjustment layers on top of those 100 layers to get the adjustments that i want for those layers. I'm happy with the adjustments but Then I NEED to merge those 3 adjustment layers to ALL those 100 layers.
Is there a way to easily permanently apply the adjustments to each of those layers without having to do it manually? I absolutely need to merge the adjustments to the seperate layers because of how the layers are being used in a seperate 3d program.
So far what I've been doing is duplicating the adjustment layers for each layer and merging them to said layers separately.. I wish I could just right click the adjustment layer and Tell it to merge to everylayer it affects or apply to every layer underneath it!
Mask tab is not showing on the Adjustment Panel. Need it for school work. Using the free 30 day Photoshop.

But when the mask is a part of an ADJUSTMENT LAYER, it always comes in "white." How do I make the adjustment layer mask "black"? Alt-clicking on the mask simply turns the entire image screen white.

View 2 Replies View Relatedim trying to make an adjustment to one section of my footage.i followed other instructions elsewhere about making a mask on a solid and then linking the solid to a null object, which has tracking footage (i was thinking i could motion track a mask?)
so i did that, but tracking motion doesnt work, the mask moves everywhere so i went in and moved the mask points at keyframes, which was annoying. but now i can't add adjustments to the solid where the mask is. i turned the solid into an adjustment layer but adding color correction adjustments doesn't work.
i have to use after effects by the way. basically tl:dr i need to color correct one section (or the masked part) of my footage. how can i do that in AE?
also is there an easier way to motion track something that goes completely off screen or out of the comp window? cause its a handheld shot and theres like a pan, and im trying to track the mask but it doesnt really work or stay around the area it needs to.
If I make an Adjustment Layer, I notice that it effects EVERY layer underneath it. Is the only way to apply that adjustment layer to layers you WANT is to drag those layers under the adjustment, and then hold ALT and click the line BETWEEN the adjustment layer and the layer you want affected, thus making it a "Clipping?" layer?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI bought PSP about a year or so ago, but grew frustrated with it and reverted back to Gimp. Now, however, I think I am ready to jump back.. and I encountered originally back then.
Basically, in some of the adjustment layers (Local Tone Mapping, Fill Light & Clarity) the mask doesn't work. When I click on the mask control the mask color in the dialog switches from white to black, but the screen doesn't revert back to underlying layer.This is very repeatable. It only happens in some AL, others like Layers and Curves work reliably.
I am on W7 x 64, PSP X4 v 14.2.01
The checkbox at the bottom of the develop module that allows one to view the mask has disappeared How do I get it back. I use LR 4 on a PC.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen using adjustment brush and Crop tool a bar used to appear under the photo giving me the option of seeing the overlay filter of where i had burned in or dodged. it also appeared for the 'Done' option when cropping. This bar has disspapeared from my screen and i can no longer see how much and what areas i have effected with the adjustment tool. how do i get this option back on my screen? this is lightroom 3.5 by the way

In CS5 I could command click on the image with the eyedropper and a corresponding point would be placed on the tone curve in the curves window. When I try this in CS 6 (command click) the curves window collapses. What should I be doing differently.

How do I place them ?
I do not want to place them both in Group1 and in Group2.
I Want to have them in just one place.
how to make an adjustment to a specific Photoshop layer (in this case a tweaking the color on a person extracted from the background by green screen) without affecting the other layers. I have tried Adobe help but can't seem to find the solution.

I have a group called: "Hele akvarier" " where I have used "Create new fill adjustment layer" - "Brightness / Contrast" to the layers which are under. (Layer 2, Original Copy, Original).Over is there are two layers named "Layer 3, Layer 1". These layers, I also need to use the "Brightness / Contrast" to they're going to look right, but the top "adjustment layer" affects all the layers under.
How do I get my layers divided into two groups, each with its "adjustment layer" to use each with its own settings?

View 2 Replies View RelatedLets say I have an area of a picture to which I want to apply a adjustment layer such as Hue/Saturation. I select the area and create a mask. I then apply a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer.
The problem is that the adjustment layer affects the whole image rather than the masked area.
What method do you guys use in applying an Adjustment layer to MULTIPLE Layers but NOT everything underneath it?
I tried using clipping masks, but I think my solution isn't "the best way".
I'm having trouble recovering a few things that used to work really well in CS3 and before. How do I do the following in CS4?
1. Control-tab used to cycle through adjustment points in a curve and I could then use arrow keys to move adjustment points around. Control-tab does nothing in CS4 and I don't see a way to set it with keyboard shortcut settings.
2. In CS3 and earlier I could edit the settings of an adjustment layer and clicking OK would save the changes AND add a history entry. In CS4 it seems that adding the history layer is implicit. Is there a better way than selecting some other layer and going back? I can't find a keyboard shortcut that adds a history entry (e.g. hitting enter) that is equivalent to clicking OK. The "reset to previous state" button in the adjustment panel seems to hold only the previous state.
How do I make adjustment layers 1 & 2 apply to all layer below them,
but have adjustment layers 3 & 4 only apply to the indented layers
below them -- layers 4, 5 & 6? That is adjustment layers 3 & 4 should
apply to layers 5 & 6 but, not apply to the background layer.
I'm not sure if this is an intended feature of PS, but I have relied on it heavily in the past and now I can't get it to work any more!
Basically, when optimising photos, I will make an adjustment layer, levels, curves, whatever, which will globally alter the image.
I forget why I tried, but I found that using the eraser to erase parts of the adjustment layer would reveal the original state beneath, enabling me to make subtle tonal adjustments by feel. Sure there are many ways to achieve similar results with layer masks, history brush, whatever, but this method suits my way of working and is so simple.
Problem is, it won't work any more - nothing to do with updating PS as I have been using CS since it came out.
Messing with layer masks has sometimes brought this feature back, sometimes not, but unfortunately only temporarily and I can't work out what I did anyway!! When it does work, you can see the erased parts in the layer thumbnail and of course in the history palette, but when it won't, you still see the erase step in the palette, but nothing happens to the image.
I've never had trouble erasing through adjustment layers (ie a levels or curves layer), but as of today, I am unable to erase through any adjustment layers. The history log shows I'm using the eraser tool, but nothing happens within the layer I'm trying to erase. I don't seem to have a problem erasing through duplicate background layers.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been working with an image with about a half dozen layers. Some of these are Curves adjustment layers, I've also added a layer, using Soft Light mode, and then paint either in black or white to dodge and burn the image. At some point, when I started painting in this layer, or in the masks of the adjusment layers, instead of seeing my results in the image, I'm see red brush strokes being added to the image. It looks like the red you get when you toggle the "" key and you're seeing what's in the layer and the masks in rubylith.
Also, when I select a layer, it turns light gray, not blue, as with other images.
I know when CS5 first came out even the standard modal windows for Levels, Curves etc. were housed in a Palette and that blew my mind with hatred. It seems they've fixed that but are still limiting Adjustment Layers to the same Palette fate.
Is there any way on earth to switch back to the standard modal type window for Adjustment Layers? Forcing us to use them in a Palette window makes me want to go get a root canal. I've had CS5 for over a year and simply cannot use it due to this and some other issues.
