Photoshop :: Can CS5.1 Open Files Created / Saved In CS6
Jun 15, 2012
I work in a collaborative environment. I've upgraded to CS6, but those i work with are working in photoshop cs5.1. Will they have problems opening files i create or save in CS6?
I'm having a problem when I use "save as" after working on a tiff in CS. It ends up in a "file" file that I can't open again. Does anyone know if it's a CS or a XP problem. Or something to do with pretty large files?
I've got rather weird problem. PS CC on the desktop can't open PS CC .psd files created on my laptop (and vice versa) due to compatibility problems. The same relates to the .tif files. It's not corruption of the files, it's happening to every new-written file I try to move between computers. The problem appeared today, during the weekend everything was fine and I changed nothing.
I saved Raw files to jpeg via bridge but now some of the jpegs won't open in CS5, they only open in bridge? How do I get them to open up in photoshop instead?
I am having a problem with opening some files in Photoshop. I am using Photoshop CS5.1 Extended (Version 12.1) and have Windows 7 64 bit SP1 OS.
I am trying to open a few templates I made in PhotoShop for a client and they worked fine when I used them 3 weeks ago. All were saved as .psd documents. Now when I go to open them they no longer have the PS icon (to show they would be opened by PhotoShop). When I try to open them I get "Could not complete your request because it is not the right type of document." I have had this problem once before but it is confusing to me because 2 of the other similar .psd files I saved at the same timeframe(separate elements for the temlate) are perfectly fine, only the ones I need do not want to open.
I checked file properties and it claims these files are now Windows Shell Common Dll files.
All old saved files open OK, last 2 Days all saved files cannot open, but image is on thumbnail tried importing...says cannot import empty file..what have i done?
I can't open files saved in X4 in v9. I couldn't figure out the text tool in X4 & saved the file so I could finish in v9 but v9 says it is not a valid PSP file. This is very frustrating since I need to be able to use v9 until I learn X4. Second, I have 64 bit version of Thumbnail view installed but it still doesn't allow me to see all of my PSP files in Windows Thumbnail view.
I have somehow lost my ability, in P&GD7, to export and open previously-created pdf files. It's not an "option" in the exprot drop-down. Where the heck did it go? I re-installed and it's still not there and I need it!
Still able to open files saved before yesterday just having problems to open recently saved files (all files since yesterday). It allows to save properly, on preview mode shows what is in the file, size of the file is correct as well. But when trying to open it opens as a blank page or is not opening at all.
Did a test- saved file with a simple objects / text only. Cant open.
plus- doesnt allow to copy & paste.
Reinstall all coreldraw package- still the same problem.
I can't see a way to search for this issue that seems faster then looking manually. X4 will open X3 jpg's, but not X3 TIF's. X4 will open the older PSP files, but X3 TIF's show up as black rectangles in X4 workspace and won't open. I've uninstalled X3 already, but do not consider re-installing it as a solution. Previous versions of PSP have been backward compatible for me. If I open a RAW file, edit it and save as a TIF, it will open.
Where are the user created actions saved to? It seems that when my computer is restarted that my actions that I've created in CS2 dissapear. In an attempt to fix this (aside from saving my actions) I'd like to see why the IT folks are dumping that folder, or keeping PS from saving the actions I've created.
When in Lightroom 4 and i want to edit in photoshop essentials, LR always creates and saves a psd file before opening Essentials. How can I stop this happening because it is a nuisance. For example if I am editing 4 files in PS I dont want LR to create these additional files at all. I am using a PC
How do you order a photo book that has been created and saved? Only prints are offered as a selection. Do I have to export the images to iPhoto to get this done or is it still possible to order it with Shutterfly via Elements.
I am taking a graphic image class that uses Photoshop and Illustrator. I am using CS4 Extended (64 bit, I assume, since I'm running XP 64-bit).
When I save a .psd document in CS4 and send it to my teacher, who is using CS3, she can't open it. She gets the error message "This layered photoshop file was not saved with a composite image."
Fortunately my teacher is cool and has been letting me submit my images in other formats, even though the layers can't be seen.
I worked for quite some time on a design in Photoshop CS, and I saved the file as: "End Of The World 1.0.psp"...
Now it says that it's an unknown file and I can't open it (because I wasn't thinking and put the "1.0" in the name). Is there ANY way that I can open this file in Photoshop? I really don't want to do the whole thing over again.
I don`t save my files after I`ve finished working with them . I named my project 15.05.08 and I didn`t check if everything was OK . A few minutes later I wanted to open it but to my big surprise there were no Photoshop file . There was only a thing that says it`s type is file but I can`t open it in Photoshop . When I try to open it it says " Couldn`t complete your request because it is not the right kind of document .
Earlier this year, I was still using CS3. I created a bunch of original TIFF files, and modified files which had been created in CS1. When I am having to go back and reference these CS3 TIFFs, some of them are giving me an error message and refusing to open. Evidently, they are not compatible with CS6?
I have since uninstalled CS3, but the box is sitting on the shelf if I need it (which I am hoping I don't). Any workaround - preferably one which will not destroy my layers.
PS auto updater pop-up. It asked me to update and install something about patch? I don't know what is was then I click "no" or "remind me later". After that everything stopped working. After I restart, everything works fine but PS.
I can open new file and save it. But when I try to open the "saved" one, the "open file" window came and gone so fast. Then the PS 's not responding. I have to close it through task manager.
I have been sent a file that when I try to open it, it says I don't have enough Ram. However, I have files far larger than this one (1.01 MB) which all open with no problems.
can my PS6 open files produced in later versions of PS?
If I create an image in PS and save it to a JPG or PNG, it will not have that file be the current open file. I flatten the image and click to Save As, but when it saves, the image still has Untitled as the name in the program bar. What's the deal?? Granted, I haven't been using PS-CS3 for long, but in the previous versions, if an image is flattened and saved as a JPG, GIF, PNG, etc, it will then have that file open instead of the original PSD file.
I am running Photoshop 6. when i open some files that i have created in the past and make some changes to them, then press the save button. I get an error saying
"The file could not be saved because it is in use or was left open"
Photoshop then forces me to save it as another name.
when i try to delete the original file, I can not delete the file from my windows exploror. When i try to delete the file, it tells me that the file is in use and can not be deleted. I get this error even if i close all programs on my computer.
I saved a file as a .tif and it saved as normal then I shut down Photoshop and then the PC. The next day when I try to open the file it doesn't open correctly it opens but the right hand side of the photo is on the left and the left hand side of the image is now on the right, its like its been cut in half and put back the wrong way.
It also didn't open with the layers only as a locked background. When I view the file in the icon it looks fine until I open it.
I opened and modified several JPEG images with Photoshop CS2. Now none of these files can be opened by Photoshop or any other program. All of the files seem to have a non-zero size, but when I try to open them in Photoshop, it does not generate an error, it merely offers to create a new file with the same image properties (size, etc) as the saved image on disk.
I've also tried several other programs to open these files, and none of them can open them. FYI, one thing that all of the files have in common is that they are all saved with the absolute minimum compression settings.
I recently saved an image on Photoshop CS6 as a PNG file so I could send it as an attachment to a client (who uses a Windows computer). They told me the file wouldn't open and instead showed as an "Unknown File".
I tried opening the file on my Windows computer, as well as a JPEG version to test out, but both came up as "Unknown Files".
The only way I could transfer the files I saved in Photoshop was to export them as PNG through the 'Preview' application.
Is there a reason why these normal formats won't open properly?
Photoshop CC (Newest update) crashes every time I double-click on a vector-layer created in Illustrator! It should automatically open the layer in Illustrator but all I see is the 'Wheel of Death'!?(OSX 10.8.4 - Adobe CC)
