Photoshop :: Recovering Old Files / Can't Saved

Sep 20, 2012

I've lost some Photoshop cs 8.0 files and have been told by a recovery company that they can't be saved. I've attached a screen shot of icons that appear to show what seems to remain of one of the files.  You will see it has 3 different icons that correspond to it. One a 'thumbnail'; one a 'meta' and one an 'exec' file.

AutoCad :: Recovering Previously Saved Drawing

Sep 10, 2012

So I spent 4 days working on a profile last week. And this morning I opened it up and accidentally erased the alignment, saved and closed the drawing (I must have thought it was in another drawing, and I wasn't paying attention).

Now the profile is gone and I'm wondering if I can open up a drawing that was saved before I did this mix up. I checked my autosave path, but the path doesn't exist. So I don't know where it's be autosaving to.

Photoshop :: CS4 Saved .tif Files Cannot Be Read By

Jun 3, 2009

I recently upgraded Photoshop from CS2 to CS4 (11.0.1).If I use CS4 to save a large multi-layered Photoshop .psd file as .tif (Layer/Flatten image/Discard hidden layers),  (File/Save as .tif, LZW, Interleaved, IBM PC) the resultant .tif file cannot be read by many other programs.File viewers (Faststone, MS Paint, QT Picture Viewer, Windows Photo Gallery) either fail to display the images, display the images incorrectly, or display a black screen.Neat Image fails to open the files due to incorrect bit depth.    (Faststone shows the bit depth as 40 bits).PTLens fails to open the files with the dialog "Only RBG images are supported".This has become a significant problem, since I routinely distribute images to others as .tif files.Similar Photoshop CS2 saved .tif files open with all the above viewers/programs with no problems. (no longer have CS2 installed)

Photoshop :: Getting Saved Files In Vista

Jun 24, 2009

I don't seem to be pluggin in the correct set of keywrds to bring it up in the search if it has. Here's my dilemma. I just bought a new computer which came preloaded with Vista, and uploaded my old copy of CS3 onto it. The program seems to be working fine, except that when I open a file in Photoshop and edit it, then save it in a new file (as I do for most of my photoshoots, etc), or even when I save it in the orignial folder, the new "saved" file will not show up in the Vista folder. If I go back to Photoshop and open the folder via File>Open, I can access all of my pictures, but to I cannot access them to upload to the internet, email, use in other programs, etc.If I go into "Recently Changed Documents" I can find them, but they seem to be in a temp folder in the Adobe folders. But again, if I go back to Adobe, it says they are in the folder I put them in.

Photoshop :: PSD Files Disappear When Saved To Network File Share

Apr 10, 2013

It has been reported and reproduced by Support, an issue whereby Photoshop .PSD files disappear when they’re saved to a network file share. Upon initial investigations Support have observed the following behaviour when saving a Photoshop file.

The document is initially saved as a new file on the file share. The original  .PSD file is deleted on the file share. The newly created file is renamed to the same name as the original file.

An issue often arises when steps 1 and 2 complete however step 3 fails. When a file is reported by users as having disappeared, the new file created in step 1 can be renamed from  .00_ to the original *.PSD file name on the server as the *.00_ files are normally hidden by the desktop operating system. This allows people to see and open the file from both PC’s and MAC’s using AFP and SMB protocols.

A related issue often reported by users is that they receive an error message “Could not save as” when trying to save a .PSD file. Troubleshooting the issue confirms that the user is able to save the file if they perform a “Save As” operation in Photoshop.

From the reported problems and observations there is clearly an issue with how Photoshop performs a file save operation further exacerbated by the fact the process doesn’t fail safely.

Photoshop :: Saved Files As PSD Now (Windows Shell Common Dll) Won't Open?

Feb 12, 2013

I am having a problem with opening some files in Photoshop. I am using Photoshop CS5.1 Extended (Version 12.1) and have Windows 7 64 bit SP1 OS.

I am trying to open a few templates I made in PhotoShop for a client and they worked fine when I used them 3 weeks ago. All were saved as .psd documents. Now when I go to open them they no longer have the PS icon (to show they would be opened by PhotoShop). When I try to open them I get "Could not complete your request because it is not the right type of document." I have had this problem once before but it is confusing to me because 2 of the other similar .psd files I saved at the same timeframe(separate elements for the temlate) are perfectly fine, only the ones I need do not want to open.

I checked file properties and it claims these files are now Windows Shell Common Dll files.

Photoshop :: CS6 13.0.5 - Files Being Saved To SMB Volume Have Alias And Invisible Bits

Jul 31, 2013

We are running CS6 13.0.5 on multiple Mac Pros, most Mac OS X 10.8.3 but one 10.8.4.  We've experienced the issue on both OS'es.

Sometimes when saving files to our primary share (an SMB share on an EMC Celerra) the files are having their alias and invisible bits (for Finder) set.

Not the flags (chflags), the bits (can be changed using SetFile in Mac Dev Tools).

So these files are showing up as hidden aliases.  Seems to be no problem saving locally.

I've changed the File Handling Preferences with no results in changing this issue. Since a couple users did not experience this problem, I'm wondering if it might be a permissions problem.
