So I bought the new 27" iMac. I was keeping all my photos on an external drive but decided to use that for back up and move all the pics onto the new iMac's 3TB fusion drive. I made the move outside of Lightroom. Of course, when I did that, I botched up all the links.
Lightroom 4.3 now shows thumbnails of all my photos, none of my folders in the catalog window, all of my saved collections. What's the most efficient way of getting LR to link my catalog to my newly-located (internal) photos file?
I imported pictures to Adobe Lightroom and exported them to my memory card. Now my memory card is broke! Is there any way to retrieve those pictures from Lightroom. Right now they are saying missing.
I have moved my pictures and my catalog from a Windows PC to a new iMac. The images have been moved, the image manipulation are there (separate XMP files ) The folders for the collections have been moved, but all images are empty. Not one picture is in my collections.
Went to export a picture, entered the information, clicked " export" and Lightroom disappeared. Recovered it or so i thought. The title bar now reads "Ice caves 2014-Adobe Lightroom 3, and all my pictures are missing.
Yesterday, I was importing pictures. I followed the same process I have always used with LR. I have LR4.2. In the process, three folders were created and in two of them, 2 subfolders were created. These are primarily stored on a Drobo. After all the imports, I immediately backed up the Drobo to another HD. When I went to show my wife the pictures today, none of the folders, subfolders or pictures could be found. What LR did show me was that on the backup drive, there appeared all folders and subfolders but all had a question mark on them. All the picture previews are there. When I right click, one of the options is "Find missing Folder". They don't seem to exist. Unfortunately, I erased one of my cards from my D800E after I had backed up the files. When I try to re-import from the other cards, LR identifies all the pictures as suspect duplicates. I have never had this happen before and I have been a LR user from the beginning! What happened to the folders and files? How can I re-import from the cards that still have the pictures.
Since the latest update, my Lightroom 3 catalog has gone completely blank. Find Missing Pictures comes up empty. The photo files are still on my Drobo and show up on Bridge. Do I have to reimport 1000's of files? Why did this happen?
I made the mistake of moving the pictures to another folder (using Windows Explorer) after I had done some editing. I've noticed that after I moved them, I lost every edit I had made. Is there any way of recovering those edits?
I have transferred some folders from my internal drive to an external (FW) drive. Whereas most of the transfer worked fine, I had the following problems:
- one folder (at least) completely disappeared from LR. The files were moved to the new HDD (I can see them in Finder), an empty folder remains in LR under the "old" drive and there is nothing in LR at the new position.
- an empty structure remained at the location of the old files
- on some folders, I had the message "could not complete the folder move..." and only part of the pictures (or none at all) were moved.
There are two polygon topologies in the dwg attached. The 'Parcels' topology is a source while the 'RoW' topology represents an overlay topology. Both are reported correct and complete, nevertheless an intersection overlay operation
does not show the expected result. Instead, a rather painful error message comes up: Can't create polygons. Some links could be lost. Frankly, I have never known any of the messages before...
Ironically, this sample is a part of a greater drawing and the rest of the topologies work just fine.
I use Photoshop Elements 9 with Windows 7 and backed up both my pictures and saved my albums as a XML file. Then my computer got a virus and the hard drive had to be wiped clean. I restored my files and pictures from an external hard drive. I reinstalled Photoshop Elements 9 and then uploaded the albums from the XML file I saved. All the album names are restored, but the pictures are not connected to the albums! How can I restore the albums with the pictures without starting over and dragging each picture into the album? I thought the XML file saved the picture/album links?
When pictures are moved from one folder to another or from one drive to another (ie the C drive to an external drive) do the tags follow? I move them in My Pictures (Photoshop isn't open) if that matters. Do I have to do anything to ensure that the tags stay with the pictures?
How do I stop files being moved daily automatically to "my pictures" by Photoshop? These are not pictures, but sometimes virus scans, or files that have the PSE logo and seem to contain nothing. On some days there are hundreds of "files?" added to "my pictures".
Had to do a clean reload of Windows and PSE 8.0 and my pictures. I saved the Program files folder for PSE 8.0. How do I recover the Album and Tags back to the pictures? Are there files that I can restore from the saved PSe 8.)?
Lost pictures in JPEG. pictures in raw files ok. Never moved pictures to revel. JPEG shows broken file. Search on computer shows old file with no pitures. Did not move pictures since I never put anywhere but on my computer I didnt think I had to. Elements 8.
I restarted Windows 7 while elements 12 was open and now almost half of my pictures folders and their contents are gone. Not on the hard drive or in the recycle bin. I got to get them back.
I lost all my pictures on the organize page of elements 7 (all but 15) {I must have hit someting I shouldn't have} and I need them back. how to do that?
I'm reconstructing an old document originally developed with PageMaker. I've recreated a half dozen pages hopefully with more uniform techniques. The original line art for the pages was created in AutoCad and some were scans. To bring them into InDesign some of the art is now in psd format and some of the newer art is in Illustrator AI format.
I've noticed that the pages with photoshop art print pretty quickly (about 30 seconds). The ones with Illustrator art take much longer (about 1:30 seconds). They go through a flattening process.
I print these 50 page books on demand and that additional time would add about an hour.
I guess the question is whether this is normal and to be expected or not. If it is I'll likely turn everything into raster before going into InDesign. That, however, seems like quite a bit of extra work. Going from AutoCad to Illustrator (to add stroke) then to PhotoShop to change to raster and then into InDesign seems like a pretty convoluted work flow.
how to move the XMP files when I drag a folder of photos from one external drive to another external drive.
I drag the folder with 500 photos over the photos go but I get a message saying the following files did not transfer and its all my XMP files for the images I transfered. How can I get the folders and the edits to transfer from a 500gb to a 4TB external hard drive
I am trying to download pictures in folders and sub folders into the LR catalog. The import brings all the pics in the subfolders over but when II click on the parent folder it shows not pictures or number of pictures in it.
I'm running LR2 (I know, first step, UPGRADE!), but in the meantime, I had to move my catalog because my drive got full. Under the Backup dialog box I chose the new location. But when I just click on the LR icon to open the program it opens with the default C: drive catalog location that it first installed with. Then I open the specific catalog from in the program and relaunch it. I have LR set to bring the dialog box everytime I start LR since I don't use it everyday. So I back it up when the dialog comes up and when it's done it goes right back to the default catalog with none of my library in there. Why do I have to keep opening the catalog manually?
New computer. Moved catalog to essentially same location but moved from external drive to the main drive. Searching "find" does not seem to do anything. How do I redirect?
Recently upgraded to LR3. When moving a number of files from one folder to another, about every third time, it moves all but one file and I get this message about the unmoved file. If I then try to move just that one remaining file, it moves it fine.
When I first started using LR, I converted several folders full of CR2s that had been imported into LR to .dng using the stand-alone DNG Converter and then used the OSX Finder to move those folders to my archive drives. (For those beginners following along - don't do this!!)
I want to re-link LR to those files but find that I need to do the relink routine one file at a time (instead of being able to use the "find nearby missing photos") because LR is looking for an exact match of filename + extension instead of just filename. The problem is that the files on the archve drive have a .dng extension and LR is looking for a .CR2 extension.
Is there a way of having LR look for just the filename? Perhaps a script of some sort?
3000 files to relink - one at a time is not a happy prospect.
(Of course, now I do everything from within LR. Live and learn!)
I moved from an XP based PC to a Mac Pro running Lion. I copied LRcat to the new location and all photo files. Catalog opens and works fine in the Folders tab, but all of the Collections links are broken. Each of the collections links are pointing to the old location on the pc: C:usermy documentsphotoslightroom....
I have tried to right click on the collection folder and point it too the new location. This seems to be processing the change, but results in loss of info in the old C: location and does not redirect the Mac collection to the right place.
Is there any way to fix this at the top level without having to delete and recreate all the collections?
I moved my lightroom 3.6 catalog to a new machine ( a Win7 machine so I could upgrade to version 4 and 5). When I did that photos that I had tagged as RED came over without the RED color and just a white box in the lower right-hand corner of the grid view.
I moved a folder in Lightroom in the file pane, in Library mode and now Lightroom thinks they are missing. I looked for them in Finder and they aren't were they were and they aren't where I moved them too. I can't figure out how they just disappeared into the ether. The pictures are on a network drive, but I've done this before and Lightroom had no problems whatsoever.
I have a Canon 6D and recently purchased Lightroom 4.4 so that I could open my Canon RAW files. They do open in Lightroom, but when I move them to PHotoshop CS4 I can't open the files. I get a message telling me I can't open them.
I have my pictures on an external HD, formatted to Windows (XP). On my WIN7 computer, I've imported the pictures from the ext HD, into LR5. But I can't delete a bad picture, only remove from catalog. When I try to delete, I get this message : "the file could not be moved to resycle bin". If I go to the folder in Windows I have no problem deleting the file.I Should mention, that a Macbook Air have been reading files from this ext HDD.
I outgrew my old harddrives and so moved them via Macs DiskUtility. Of course, LR 4 doesn't know where they are. I thought it would be a matter of pointing the old catalogue to the new hard drive, but that does not appear to be the case. Do I need to start from scratch and build a brand new catalogue?
I get an error code "file could not be moved to selected location" when trying to move an image or a folder from one hard drive to another within Lightroom.
I am migrating from a Windows-based PC to an iMac. I successfully used Lightroom to move all my images and catalogs from the PC hard file to a USB attached hard file. I was able to go to the iMac and move the Lightroom Catalog from USB attached drive to the Apple Macintosh drive. I was able to bring up Lightroom with moved Lightroom Catalog and work with all of my images. Then using Lightroom I was unable to move the images to the Macintosh hard drive without getting the error code above.
