I have moved my pictures and my catalog from a Windows PC to a new iMac. The images have been moved, the image manipulation are there (separate XMP files ) The folders for the collections have been moved, but all images are empty. Not one picture is in my collections.

I recently converted all of my pictures to a new format. I want to make a new catalog, identical to the old one, with the new pictures. I imported everything, but I don't know what to do about collections and smugmug folders. I still have the old catalog, and all of the old pictures. But I need to reupload all of the new pictures to my smugmug site, same as before. So, I need to recreate every collection and add the new pictures like they were before. Is there a faster way to do this? Can I use my old catalog to somehow recreate the collections? I still have the old catalog, and all of the old pictures. All of the filenames of new and old pictures are identical. I also have a few collections that I would prefer not to manually recreate.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a new PC. I installed LR 4 on the new PC. I tried to transfer all my pics from my MAC to the PC. When I open up LR4 on the PC all I see are grayed out boxes where my pictures should be with a question mark in the top left. When I click on the question mark it say original file cant be located.
I would like to transfer my entire database from the MAC to the PC but cant figure out how to transfer it all.
If I create a brand spanking new catalog of lets say images from 2011, can i somehow import the collections created in another catalog for these same images into this new catalog?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI had a catalogue with 4 or 5 collections filled with pictures in each with stars and color filters. I just went to go open my collections to export the pictures and all my collections are gone and I did not click any thing to reset or delete anything. Only a small portion of the pictures have a star rating but none of them have a color filter.

I'm using Lr 5.2 and adding pictures to collections.
I have three seperate catalogs on my desktop, each with different collections, clients etc. Generally I'll use 'import from another catalog' when I want to import a new shoot from my laptop. This works great, however sometimes I find that all of my smart collections from another catalog suddenly appear in the catalog that I am using e.g I'm using my Sculpture catalog, I import a new sculpture shoot. It imports and shows up fine but so does 20 smart collections from my Portfolio catalog. The 'alien' Portfolio smart collections obviously show as holding 0 images (as the images are where they should be - in the Portfolio catalog). Is it something to do with a preference file that all catalogs access?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running LR2 (I know, first step, UPGRADE!), but in the meantime, I had to move my catalog because my drive got full. Under the Backup dialog box I chose the new location. But when I just click on the LR icon to open the program it opens with the default C: drive catalog location that it first installed with. Then I open the specific catalog from in the program and relaunch it. I have LR set to bring the dialog box everytime I start LR since I don't use it everyday. So I back it up when the dialog comes up and when it's done it goes right back to the default catalog with none of my library in there. Why do I have to keep opening the catalog manually?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI must preface this by saying that I am new to LR4 and I have been trying to follow instructions in a popular book as to creating collections, etc. I have been trying to create collections and organize photos. I recently shot a wedding and went through about 900 photos and whittled it down to 350 and now today for some reason I decided to back up a previous catalog and now everything I did yesterday appears to be gone and the only photos that I see in LR are those bridal photos in that catalog.
I know that this is the most amateaur of questions, but what in the world have I done, and can I recover that previous import and the changes I made to them?
I moved my lightroom 3.6 catalog to a new machine ( a Win7 machine so I could upgrade to version 4 and 5). When I did that photos that I had tagged as RED came over without the RED color and just a white box in the lower right-hand corner of the grid view.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I bought the new 27" iMac. I was keeping all my photos on an external drive but decided to use that for back up and move all the pics onto the new iMac's 3TB fusion drive. I made the move outside of Lightroom. Of course, when I did that, I botched up all the links.
Lightroom 4.3 now shows thumbnails of all my photos, none of my folders in the catalog window, all of my saved collections. What's the most efficient way of getting LR to link my catalog to my newly-located (internal) photos file?
After my trial version of LR4 expired I have had a few problems with LR3.The problem now is that it seems the Collections I created while using LR4 trial version are not listed in the LR3 collection panel. As of yet I'm not sure that those are the only collections that are missing. I do have LR backed up (every time I shut down LR) but I don't know how to go about importing the collections or where to find them. I don't see "Collections" in the backup folder.

I'm going to start from scratch, import all the pictures into Lightroom 5, and add tags to all the photos and create collections and smart collections. I have a desktop and a laptop. View 4 Replies View RelatedI would like to add notes to some pictures in my Lightroom catalog. I know how to use keywords, but in some cases keywords are not enough. For example if you want to note the names of a group of persons from left to right. You can enter the names as keywords, but then the names will be sort alphabetically - so you have the names, but later no information who is who on the picture! I would like to enter notes to some pictures, but don't know how I can do that in Lightroom? I think about many cases where notes would be useful. Another example is, if you would like to describe a situation, which the picture shows (What happened there? Background information to the picture or something like this). You only can enter keywords, but you are not able to enter some sentences. Any existing solution or could this be a new feature in Lightroom? I prefer to add notes to the Lightroom catalog not directly into the metadata (like EXIF or XMP).

What I was hoping is that Adobe LR was going to copy all those pictures and put them into "my pictures- > year -> date" so that I will have all my pictures organized by date. [ t)
However, adobe LR have just added all those pictures using their original location (i.e. the folders where i had them), and therefore the automatic organization by dates that i was expecting didn't happen.
I would like to move all the pictures to the "date system".
I noticed a problem with LR5.2. When creating a catalog for travel with dynamic image rendering, if you want to add some pictures in this catalog it doesn't recognize the existing images, so we have the exact same selection between "all images' and "new images". I made a few tests and with a normal catalog there is no problems but apparently the dynamic images are not recognized as existing images.

View 2 Replies View RelatedUpgrading to 4.1 and imported my 3.6 catalog.All the files and collections appear - but most thumbnails are missing. Many of the missing files are in storage off my PC on DVD. So I am thinking that the thumbnails aren't part of the LR3.6 catalogue (3.6 shows all thumbnails of files both on the PC AND storred off it on DVD once read in) but stored differently? If so, can I read them into 4.1 from 3.6?
If not I am concerned that we are deducing that maybe I will I have to read them all in again off dozens (and dozens) of DVD's?! Both a laborious task AND a bit of a shortcoming...err...to say the least in the way things have been put together maybe?
I've always had some problems with missing files in Lightroom (as in, they would go missing without me moving or renaming any files), but it was never anything too important so I ignored it. However, I recently got Lightroom 4 (used 3 as a trial just before 4 was released) - I had downloaded it as a trial, and today I enterted my Student/Teacher approved serial number. When I opened Lightroom, most of my files were said to be missing. When I go into an individual catalog.
But when I went into 'All Photographs', it appeared with all shots that were obviously also in the Auto Show album (side note: it seemed to have made duplicates without my saying so, but now they are erased - thoughts?):
Thing is, I basically imported the photos off my camera into Lightroom, then deleted the shots on the camera thinking they would be safe on my computer, so I have no idea where the primary location is for all my photos. I did move some folders around today, but none of which contain anything to do with Lightroom as far as I can tell. If I deleted anything, it was just export versions of the photos.
I should add that this is with ALL my my photos - not just certain ones.Where can I find the master location for all of these photos if it exists?
When opening LR3 a window appeared asking if I wanted to open a catalog titled Photoshop Elements (or something like that). I said no and then got another window asking to select a catalog. After considerable searching I managed to find what must have been an initial attempt to start LR (several years ago), and it contained about 400 pictures rather than the 100,000 plus it should have displayed. Also, can not find any backups although I backup about once per week. I've looked in all the usual places and the catalog I've been using for the last two years is missing, at least to me.

I do my edits, ADD NOISE, SHARPEN.Then PHOTO > SAVE AS.I save the photo to my external.Here is the issue, when I re-open LR the photo is then present in my Catalog and there in LR to be viewed.... from here I export the final size for web etc and I am done
The photo that is now within my LR catalog is missing the NOISE I am added completely, and the SHARPENING is gone, or much less sharp then the photo I have saved in PS.

Beating a dead horse.....Everytime I need "missing images" in LR4.2, I cannot access them, even though I am looking right at the location they presntly occupy because thye image is ALREADY IN ANOTHER CATALOG.
HOW frustrating is this...going on 8 months now. But I need the images and I suppose I could just go back and reprocess 10,000 images that are missing in my collections but I have tried many solutions offered over the months that are just impractical.
If let's say one image is already associated with another catalog that houses that collection, ( and the collection is important because it has the edits), i want to go to that catalog instead.
