View 1 RepliesI would like to ask you some more questions.
1.When I am in the Library Mode, and on the left side, how do I move pictures from one folder to another, and how do I rename a folder?
2. How do I rename a picture?
I am watching the Adobe T.V.she doesn't pause so I can ask a question. LOL LR is harder to learn than I thought it would be but I'll get there!
I was in the process of moving a folder inside or LR. I might have clicked and moved it twice since it was very slow. LR wasn't able to complete the move and gave me an error message. After I clicked "OK" on the error message, I wasn't able to find my folder/images from the old or new location. I did a spotlight search on my mac, but I wasn't able to find them anywhere. Where has my folder/images gone? I tried to locate them without any success.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just added to the catalog a series of folders containing pictures.
What I was hoping is that Adobe LR was going to copy all those pictures and put them into "my pictures- > year -> date" so that I will have all my pictures organized by date. [ t)
However, adobe LR have just added all those pictures using their original location (i.e. the folders where i had them), and therefore the automatic organization by dates that i was expecting didn't happen.
I would like to move all the pictures to the "date system".
I find that I edit files on my laptop but I want the files, with their edits to reside on my desktop computer also.
I had been exporting the folder as a Catalog, but can't think of shy I can't just copy the folder with both the RAW and XMP files and import the folder on the Desktop PC. This option seems to work just as well as the catalog option.
Any reason I should choose one way over the other? Using Lightroom 4.2?
In LR, my photos are stored in folders named by date. Ex : 20120913
Sometimes, I run over photos that are not where they belong. Ex : a picture from 2010-01-01 misplaced in the 20110720 folder.
I am sure there are quite a few misplaced pictures in my catalog.
Is there any easy way to find them and move them where they belong ?
I am moving my pictures folder to an external drive due to lack of space on my c: drive. What do I have to do so that Lightroom will find these files?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI accidentally removed a folder with images from my lightroom catalog. The lightroom .lrcat file seems to be intact (112.400kb) and the images are still on my hard drive.
Is there anyway that i can reimport the folder and that lightroom applies the changes that i earlier made on them? I assume all that information is stored in the catalog file? But when i try to reimport them, no changes are being made.
I imported a catalog from my laptop into a catalog that I have on an external hard drive. This has now resulted in two images of the external drive under the folder list in the Library view.
You can see there are two folders called Oxford (which is my external drive). The first contains the images from the catalog that was originally on the external hard drive. The second one contains all the imported photos.
The directories under Oxford are correctly visible when I browse to them on the computer.
I want to move my Lightroom catalog from my old PC to my new iMac.
The catalog contains only images located on a NAS.
I can connect to the NAS from both computer, but when I'm trying to ´import the catalog I get the message "Lightroom could not import this catalog because of an unknown error" I use the same versions of Lightrrom on both computers.
I noticed a problem with LR5.2. When creating a catalog for travel with dynamic image rendering, if you want to add some pictures in this catalog it doesn't recognize the existing images, so we have the exact same selection between "all images' and "new images". I made a few tests and with a normal catalog there is no problems but apparently the dynamic images are not recognized as existing images.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a working "watched folder", established through Lightroom's auto-import settings. When I place an image into that folder, it is imported into my lightroom catalog.
However, if I put a folder of images into that watched folder (i.e. "James and Stephanie" is put into a "wedding" folder), nothing happens. I do not want all of my images in one single folder; that's why I have Lightroom, so they can be organized in folders but collected in a database.
I also do not understand why Lightroom wants to move auto-imported images into a destination folder.
I would like to drop a folder into the "watched folder" and have Lightroom import (without moving the image) into my catalog.
I was surprised to not find this issue in Internet searches; is it dreadfully obvious, or is there a better way that I'm not familar with?
I have version 4.1 LR on both my home desktop as well as my laptop. I keep my desktop fairly well organized, and it is where I keep my image files for backup.....internal drive backed up onto an external drive.
My laptop is not so organized, and I am trying to clean it up. I use it primarily for a working system, when I'm not home.
My folder system on my laptop is different than the one on my organized desktop. Further, I may have image files on one system but not the other.
An example of what I do is as follows: when I am away from home for awhile, I like to try to save my pictures on the Compact Flash card until I get home. And, I also back them up onto my laptop and external portable hard drive as well. Before I get home, I often will use my laptop and LR to edit certain photos. I may in fact create new files when I create HDR images on my laptop.
When I get home, what I usually do is upload as soon as possible those original pictures from my Compact Flash card or external hard drive onto my home system so I have it there, with its backup. However, what I have not been doing is exporting any catalog settings file from my laptop and importing it onto my desktop.
My question is this: if I export a Catalog file from my laptop, without the negatives (images), and if there is a mismatch between the files on my laptop and my desktop, whether that's because of the file structure differences or whether that's because my laptop may have slightly different files on it than my desktop has, will the Catalog settings still transfer properly? For instance, if I have an HDR image on my laptop, along with any Catalog settings, and this HDR image is not on my home network, will a problem or error be created when I import the laptop Catalog file from my laptop without also importing that HDR file? I would think that the catalog settings for that laptop HDR file would be there, but because the HDR file is not being transferred over, perhaps there might be a problem?
I know I should probably get better on my workflow while away from home, but for now, I'm trying to clean up the existing problem that may exist.
How are photos moved from one folder to another? Second question: How can a folder be renamed?
View 6 Replies View RelatedJust upgraded to 3.6 and using Windows Vista 64bit. When I go to open a recent catalog I keep getting prompted to back-up the catalog eventhough the selected time between back-ups has not elapsed. It just always prompts me to create a backup whenever I exit the catalog or LR. When viewing catalog A and swithing to catalog B and exiting, when I start LR again it opens with catalog A instead of B. I re-checked the settings and LR is set to open to the previous catalog but it is not doing so.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to download pictures in folders and sub folders into the LR catalog. The import brings all the pics in the subfolders over but when II click on the parent folder it shows not pictures or number of pictures in it.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI must preface this by saying that I am new to LR4 and I have been trying to follow instructions in a popular book as to creating collections, etc. I have been trying to create collections and organize photos. I recently shot a wedding and went through about 900 photos and whittled it down to 350 and now today for some reason I decided to back up a previous catalog and now everything I did yesterday appears to be gone and the only photos that I see in LR are those bridal photos in that catalog.
I know that this is the most amateaur of questions, but what in the world have I done, and can I recover that previous import and the changes I made to them?
Have new computer 64 bit with dual drives (C: 111GB, E:1.36 TB) . C. drive operates Win 7. Do I install CS 6 and LR4.1 program on E drive along with catalog including phtos? or put CS^ and LR on C: and catalog and pictures on E:
View 2 Replies View RelatedThere is a folder on my hard drive that does not appear in the list of folders in the import dialog. I have tried expanding all the other folders around it (my photos are filed by date of capture) to see if it was somehow imported as a subfolder. It is simply not there. I can find and open it and access all the pictures in Photoshop Elements but not in Lightroom 4.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen Exporting images in LM4 (4.0), the previous list of export folders is grayed out and none can be selected. You have to choose the destination folder via the Choose button. On the next Export the previously selected folder appears in the list but, again, cannot be selected. The Clear List is also grayed out so you cannot clear the list down. This function worked fine in LM3. Is this a known reported fault?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI will be managing a small portion of a client's overall image workflow by updating their web prescence on a regular basis with new work and retagging/uploading old work. I believe this requires the catalog and the image library to be housed on an external hard drive that can travel between the two of us. We are both working on PC's with LR 5.3.
The workflow would look something like this:
Client downloads new images onto external hard drive and imports into LR "ClientCatalog" is created Flags Picks and Creates a Collection from those Picks.Hard drive is handed off to me where I open "ClientCatalog".Make suggested edits to images add detailed tags and metadata upload to various social media sites and websites return hard drive to client
Is there potential problem with this workflow? My assumption is that if everything is housed on the external hard drive then there are no worries about the catalog containing all the latest updates. Are there any "safety protocols" you would add in to this workflow (besides mirroring everythign on another hard drive)?
i have an 8 giga LR4 catalog (about 300000 images).just installed the new LR5 and tried openning the LR4 cat in LR 5.it said it needs to upgrade, but in the middle of the prosses i had this messege: "lightroom encountered problems when trying to update the format of the catalog file and cannot use this catalog in this version of LR"
i saw that there is an option to export all my LR4 catalog as a new catalog and than import it into LR5.i haven't tried that yet since i'm worry that i might loose some info. will this process (of exporting and importing) keep all my LR settings? like develop user presets, keywords and collections?
When importing something off of a DVD or CD how do I direct Lightroom to copy the imported images or folder to a specific folder on my hard drive? It seems to default to MyCatalog but leaves the location on the CD rather than copying it to the drive. If I remove the CD the images is reported as missing.
When I go to the top of the screen for importing I can change the source but the location info on the right is not active or changeable.I am new to lightroom and coming from Photoshop Elements background.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI would like to add notes to some pictures in my Lightroom catalog. I know how to use keywords, but in some cases keywords are not enough. For example if you want to note the names of a group of persons from left to right. You can enter the names as keywords, but then the names will be sort alphabetically - so you have the names, but later no information who is who on the picture! I would like to enter notes to some pictures, but don't know how I can do that in Lightroom? I think about many cases where notes would be useful. Another example is, if you would like to describe a situation, which the picture shows (What happened there? Background information to the picture or something like this). You only can enter keywords, but you are not able to enter some sentences. Any existing solution or could this be a new feature in Lightroom? I prefer to add notes to the Lightroom catalog not directly into the metadata (like EXIF or XMP).
