Have new computer 64 bit with dual drives (C: 111GB, E:1.36 TB) . C. drive operates Win 7. Do I install CS 6 and LR4.1 program on E drive along with catalog including phtos? or put CS^ and LR on C: and catalog and pictures on E:

I am transferring files to my computer (OSX, snow leopard) via USB cable. I am using dual card system with my camera: CF and SD. I am using the "backup" option which means that the content of both memory cards is identical. NEF + NEF with identical file names.
When the camera is connected to the computer and LR4 "import" is opened, LR4 does not show "D800 1" or "D800 2" -- it shows only "D800". This means that I cannot select a card which I would like to import the files from (like I can do with D700 or D3). And most of all, LR4 reacts inconsistently on "Don't import suspected duplicates". Usually, it wants to import all images on both cards -- this means that all files would be imported twice.
At the moment, in my D800, I have SD and CF with 3 identical NEF files on both cards. "Don't import suspected duplicates" is selected. In the import window I can see that LR4 wants to import 5 files: 0474+0474 (duplicates), 0475, 0476+0476 (duplicates). So, out from 6 images it recognizes that there is a one duplicate about to be imported, but those two others are not duplicates?
I started a new computer with LR5, and it runs fine. But, when I imported my pics from a previous computer running LR4, all the pics loaded into the new LR without any tags or processing. How can I get that info without having ot reprocess thousands of pictures?

I'm going to just buy a new Mac, though I'm trying to figure out the best way to access everything in LR until then. All of the images and photos are stored on a separate internal drive that I can take out and access via a docking station.
1. Does the license for LR allow me to install a 2nd copy on my Mac notebook?
2. If I place a copy of the LR catalog file on my Mac notebook and plug the photos/videos drive into a docking station connected to my notebook, will everything open up?
I just transferred cs5 to my new imac computer using my time machine backup. I now get a "photoshop does not recognize this file type" when I try to open a raw file from Photoshop. When I try to open my raw files through bridge I get the message "you do not have permission to open the document. I have checked my permission preferences and have reading and writing permissions and updated to 6.7 ACR.

I would like to transfer my catalog of pictures to him and have it look just like it does on my computer with Album titles, keywords, etc. When we tried to do this by using a backup of my Photoshop Element files, it transferred the pictures and keywords but not the album titles or album organization. Also, the keywords were not in the same keyword categories that I had set up on my computer. Is it possible to do what I want, or do the pictures have to all be reorganized and put into albums again on his computer?

The smart previews were created in a collection on my desktop. I'd like to take that collection over to the laptop. I have a usb thumb drive with plenty of space. Specifically, what is the proceedure to get the previews onto the thumb drive, and then view them on the laptop, using Lightroom? Further info: The laptop does not have a copy of the desktop's catalogue.

When I go to open a recent catalog I keep getting prompted to back-up the catalog eventhough the selected time between back-ups has not elapsed. It just always prompts me to create a backup whenever I exit the catalog or LR. When viewing catalog A and swithing to catalog B and exiting, when I start LR again it opens with catalog A instead of B. I re-checked the settings and LR is set to open to the previous catalog but it is not doing so.

At the momeent I am using the Drobo as back up until the 3tb becomes full. That time has come and I want to use the Drobo as the main drive for my images which contains exactly the same files as the 3tb. I also copied the catalog file onto the Drobo so I thought that all I needed to do is open the catalog in the Drobo and it will automatically access the files in the drobo drive but this is not the case as it still accesses the 3tb files. View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been storing my LR catalog and all photos on an external drive, which is now full. I got a new external hard drive and would like to move everything over. I started to copy and paste the root folder - which has all the photo folders and the LR catalog folder. If I copy and paste everything outside of LR and open the catalog in the new location, will LR recognize the photos in the new location?
I also read that the catalog could be moved to the new external hard drive (with LR closed) and the photos moved within LR by creating the root folder on the new and dragging and dropping each folder in Library mode.
I must preface this by saying that I am new to LR4 and I have been trying to follow instructions in a popular book as to creating collections, etc. I have been trying to create collections and organize photos. I recently shot a wedding and went through about 900 photos and whittled it down to 350 and now today for some reason I decided to back up a previous catalog and now everything I did yesterday appears to be gone and the only photos that I see in LR are those bridal photos in that catalog.
I know that this is the most amateaur of questions, but what in the world have I done, and can I recover that previous import and the changes I made to them?

I reloaded Elemensts 10 but had lost all catalog, category, and subcategory information. My photographs (3,000) had been saved but not "backed-up" (I did not realize there was a difference). I have installed Lightroom on the new machine, and have updated it to the same version as on the old machine. All my images are on an external drive that I can move to the new computer.
Can I simply export the existing catalog, move the hard drive, and import the catalog into the new instance of Lightroom on the new computer? Obviously, I want to retain al the keywords, develop adjustments, etc., that I had in the original catalog.
I have a separate catalog of photos from a recent trip on my laptop (don't ask why I created a 2nd catalog - won't do that again). I want to transfer them to our desktop, which is a mac (the laptop is pc). Following instructions in a tim grey email, I used "export catalog" to transfer to an external hard drive, with intent to then import to the mac. I did check for it to export negative files. It took forever, but froze partway through the process. So I created a new folder to export into, and tried it again. It got much further that time but froze again. When I use lightroom to access the files that did transfer, I find the folders labelled as they are on the laptop, but when I open them, the application says, "no items match your search", although it does indicate there are i.e. 47 MG in the file. I can use picasa to view the files, both the jpeg's and the raw files, so they're in there.

My 2010 catalog is fine, but my 2011 catalog says it is "too new for this version of lightroom". I never had version 3 so i dont know why it's saying my catalog is too new.

On my Mac Pro, the LR catalog is on the boot drive. The photos are on a separate internal drive.
My plan is to copy both the photos and the LR catalog to the 3 TB Fusion drive of the iMac.
Would I then just double-click on the catalog to open it, and use this process to "reconnect" the missing photo files?
I recently had a computer crash and want to migrate my photos and changes from my old hard drive into my newly installed Lightroom software on the new computer. I recovered the old drive, and accessed it from my new computer. I found the most recent Lightroom catalog and imported it. Then I imported all of my photos into Lightroom. The problem is that the catalog and the photos don't seem to be talking to each other. In the catalog, the photos are there all bunched together, no folders separating by date. In the photo folders that ARE separated by date, the original photos are there as they were first imported (RAW files), but don't have the develop changes that I made to them. How can I get these two things to link up?

View 1 Replies View RelatedSomething went wront on an ingest of my images. I think I tried correcting it by going into my /workingfiles folder were they were stored and deleting them manually. I'm sure I checked to see if I could do it through Lightroom, but maybe I missed the folder they were put in. I am guessing that is what happened so Lightroom still has a small image of them somewhere and will no longer let me re-import them.

I process in Lightroom 4 on a Mac Air when traveling. When I return I want to transfer those processed images to my home MacbookPro computer. I think there is a way to attach the Lightroom changes to the photos and then import them into the home computer.

In the past, when upgrading to a new computer, I could deactivate Photoshop through the help menu. Photoshop CC no longer shows that option, and since only two copies are allowed at once, I’m at a loss as to how to retire the copy I have now and switch the account to the new computer in such a way that Adobe can verify I have done so. However, the folder I have linked to Lightroom has the image. I have updated everything and have disconnected and reconnected every cable and it is still not working. I don't think it is the camera since I am getting the image in the tethering folder. I want to be able to see it in the Develop section of Lightroom so I can make sure I have the shot and edit if necessary.how to get it to transfer again?

However, when I transferred my photos from my old PC (Photoshop 6.0) the captions from all .psd files transferred successfully but none of the captions from .jpeg files transferred. I used a simple transfer of the photos from an external disk to "My Pictures" on the iMac. How can I redo this transfer so that ALL of the captions get transferred?
