Jan 10, 2013I have little room left on my iMac 'C 'drive and want to move them to my 'D' drive. How do I do this so that Lightroom 4 'sees' where the files are?

Dec 6, 2012I process in Lightroom 4 on a Mac Air when traveling. When I return I want to transfer those processed images to my home MacbookPro computer. I think there is a way to attach the Lightroom changes to the photos and then import them into the home computer.

Aug 29, 2012I know this makes me sound like a newbie but in lightroom 3 the raw files were listes as .crw when I imported them from iphoto but in lightroom 4.1 they are showing up as .jpg. Am I doing something wrong? Are these actually RAW files I am working with or is lightroom converting them before I get a chance to work with them.

Feb 6, 2013I use lightroom to tether but recently I have not been seeing my image in lightroom. It is stuck on "transferring files from camera." However, the folder I have linked to Lightroom has the image. I have updated everything and have disconnected and reconnected every cable and it is still not working. I don't think it is the camera since I am getting the image in the tethering folder. I want to be able to see it in the Develop section of Lightroom so I can make sure I have the shot and edit if necessary.how to get it to transfer again?

Sep 11, 2012I have been trying to export some files (all morning - note my frustration) to a new stock agency, but when I do a File>Export my Lightroom 4 generated Keywords are not in the files. I have tried to problem solve this on my own and looked online but I am having no luck at all. I am not very savy with all of this keywording protocol to start with. I am sure it is something simple like a box that needs to be checked or unchecked.

May 3, 2012Nikon D800 + LR4 import problem with dual card system:
I am transferring files to my computer (OSX, snow leopard) via USB cable. I am using dual card system with my camera: CF and SD. I am using the "backup" option which means that the content of both memory cards is identical. NEF + NEF with identical file names.
When the camera is connected to the computer and LR4 "import" is opened, LR4 does not show "D800 1" or "D800 2" -- it shows only "D800". This means that I cannot select a card which I would like to import the files from (like I can do with D700 or D3). And most of all, LR4 reacts inconsistently on "Don't import suspected duplicates". Usually, it wants to import all images on both cards -- this means that all files would be imported twice.
At the moment, in my D800, I have SD and CF with 3 identical NEF files on both cards. "Don't import suspected duplicates" is selected. In the import window I can see that LR4 wants to import 5 files: 0474+0474 (duplicates), 0475, 0476+0476 (duplicates). So, out from 6 images it recognizes that there is a one duplicate about to be imported, but those two others are not duplicates?

Initially I started editing my photos off the network drive, mainly because I hadn't realized the location I had chosen. Now I'm having trouble with my network drive going offline intermittantly, making editing a chore because I keep getting "unable to locate file" messages. My question is, can I start using the same photos, which are stored on my office computer, and not lose the edits I have already made?

I now have 2 external drives that mirror each other for storing the files more securely, and have already copied all the raw files (quite a long process) over. I still have the original catalog and all the raw files still on my internal HD, but what I need to know is how to move it over and keep the edits? Oct 16, 2013After importing into LR3, I get an error message that says: Some import operations were not performed. The following files could not be copied to the backup location.
Then there is a list of images (usually all of the photos imported). This didn't always happen and I can't pinpoint exactly when it started. My LR catalog and backups are stored on an EHD.
I am currently saving all of my metadata to files (just to be sure) and backing up my catalog so I can upgrade to LR5 (already purchased) but want to be sure my catalog is good before I do that.I've tried everything I know - checking my backup location and drive in LR window match up.

Sep 6, 2013I store my images on an external hard drive. I recently upgraded from LR 3.6 on a windows XP machine to LR 5 on an iMac. I moved my catalogue fine, I think, as I can see all my images in LR 5 on the iMac. The problem is that I suspect there is some problem between the iMac and the external hard drive. I cannot import my RAW photos from my CF card into LR and onto the external hard drive. LR tells me "could not copy files to the requested location."
Is there some problem because I changed from windows to Mac? Problem bc I upgraded from LR 3.6 to LR 5?
Lightroom :: Sync Catalogs On 2 Computers That Use Same Location For Image Folders?
Oct 20, 2012I don't understand Lightroom.
For example, I use LR4.2 on a desktop and on a laptop. Both computers (Windows 7 64bit) access the same image folders. On my laptop in a folder I have 42 master images and 5 virtual (soft proofs) images for a total of 47 images. But when I open LR4.2 on the desktop I don't see the 5 virtual (soft proofs) on the 42 master images.
Why can't I see the 5 virtual proofs since I am accessing the exact folder and how can I see the virtual proofs created on the laptop at the desktop.
Lightroom :: 3.6 - Previews In Preview Cache Specific To Image File Location?
Jan 10, 2012Recently I reorganized my system so that my image files were on a different drive that I had previously been using a backup drive, so no additional file copying was involved. When I ran Lr it did not find any images, as expected, at the original location and I told it where to find them by pointing it to the new parent image folder. That worked fine but then it seemed as if all of the previews had to be rebuilt on the fly by Lr as I went to each folder. Could it be that the previews in the preview cache are location specific to drive/volume level rather than just folder level ? Or is there a way to aim that ole preview cache at the new image locations ?
Likewise, would this apply to the ACR cache too ? i.e. if I point Lr at the same images in the same folder names on a different drive, will the ACR cache data still be relevant or should I just scrap it and start again ?
I told Lr to rebuild previews for many of my images and it did so overnight, but now the preview cache is about 30GB instead of about 12GB. It's possible that I picked up previews of images that were previously not in the cache, but would the new cache still contain previews of the now non-existant images at the old locations ?
I have previously reverted to system backups in which the whole drive volume had previously been been copied intact. Lr always worked fine in those situations. Is my present problem because I shifted the images folder relative to the drive volume where Lr is running ?
I'm using Lr 3.6 on a 2011 MacBook Pro with Mac OSX 10.6.8.

Feb 19, 2013I'm currently studying Graphic Design and we're using Illustrator CS6 in class. I have CS5 at home. I've opened a few simple image files in CS5 after having worked on them in CS6 in class, and they seemed to hold up fine after the transfer between the two. However today we did work on layers, and now that I've brought it home and opened it in CS5, there's only one layer.
Is the swapping between the two versions going to cause me many problems like this, or is there simple corrections/way to avoid these issues? I'd rather not fork out for the CS6 version (I'm a struggling college student!) or illegally download it as I've caused computer problems in the past trying to do as such.

May 4, 2013My son recently bought Photoshop Elements 11 and installed it on his computer. I would like to transfer my catalog of pictures to him and have it look just like it does on my computer with Album titles, keywords, etc. When we tried to do this by using a backup of my Photoshop Element files, it transferred the pictures and keywords but not the album titles or album organization. Also, the keywords were not in the same keyword categories that I had set up on my computer. Is it possible to do what I want, or do the pictures have to all be reorganized and put into albums again on his computer?

Feb 2, 2013I'm using LR 4.3, and would like to know how to determine which .dat cache files are associated with a certain folder of images. I don't know programming code, and, when I open a .dat cache file, I cannot determine which image file it goes with.
I've noticed that when I remove a folder from Lightroom, the cache files for the images in that folder remain, because the size of the cache doesn't change. I know I can flush the cache, but I don't want to have to reload tons of .dat files already present in the cache.
