I am new to photoshop lightroom. I have imported photos to lightroom previously. I want to go back and edit again. I tried going to file, then open catalog, next I select a folder, finally I see all my photos.I try to select photos but I am unable to.

View 11 Replies View RelatedWhen I want to upload pictures into Lightroom 5.2RC the window is black and no picture is shown. This was also true for Lightroom 5. The same pictures are imported into LR 4 without any problems.
My system: 27" IMac newest generation, 16GB Ram. Uploading from a Ricoh GR, Fuji X-Pro 1, Fuji X100 directly or from a Hama cardreader USB 2 or 3.
I would like to add notes to some pictures in my Lightroom catalog. I know how to use keywords, but in some cases keywords are not enough. For example if you want to note the names of a group of persons from left to right. You can enter the names as keywords, but then the names will be sort alphabetically - so you have the names, but later no information who is who on the picture! I would like to enter notes to some pictures, but don't know how I can do that in Lightroom? I think about many cases where notes would be useful. Another example is, if you would like to describe a situation, which the picture shows (What happened there? Background information to the picture or something like this). You only can enter keywords, but you are not able to enter some sentences. Any existing solution or could this be a new feature in Lightroom? I prefer to add notes to the Lightroom catalog not directly into the metadata (like EXIF or XMP).

View 4 Replies View RelatedI updated to LR5 awhile ago and ever since whenever I plug in my cardreader with memory card my old LR4 catalog opens. I have been updating since the original version of LR and this has never happened. I went into the LR4 preferences and unchecked the box about opening this catalog when a cardreader is detected- I also have that preference set in LR5- the preference about which catalog to open... I tried to pick LR5 in the LR4 catalog but it said I can't pick LR5 because it is too new for the LR4 catalog- in LR5 I have it set to open LR5- so in LR4 I tried to set it to prompt me before opening a catalog- none of that worked-now I just get the prompt- so how do I get LR4 to stop opneing when a cardreader is detected- even though I have unchecked that prompt- and I have tried unchecking it and then restarting the catalog- none of that works.

What I was hoping is that Adobe LR was going to copy all those pictures and put them into "my pictures- > year -> date" so that I will have all my pictures organized by date. [ t)
However, adobe LR have just added all those pictures using their original location (i.e. the folders where i had them), and therefore the automatic organization by dates that i was expecting didn't happen.
I would like to move all the pictures to the "date system".
I noticed a problem with LR5.2. When creating a catalog for travel with dynamic image rendering, if you want to add some pictures in this catalog it doesn't recognize the existing images, so we have the exact same selection between "all images' and "new images". I made a few tests and with a normal catalog there is no problems but apparently the dynamic images are not recognized as existing images.

I've been running LR 4.1 for a few weeks without a hitch.
Just now I tried to open it and I got an 'Unexpected error opening catalog' message. Since there is only one catalog, I chose 'Choose a different catalog' and created a new one. LR opened fine then.
However, I could not open the existing catalog, even from within LR.
Holding down the Alt key before clicking the LR icon in the System Tray opens a window headed LR 4.1 64-bit Properties. There are various tabs in the window. I'm not sure what I should be doing with any of them. If I click on OK at the bottom of the window, nothing happens.
Finally, in C/Program Files/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4/ the Master Catalog.ircat is visible. But, just below this, in /Lightroom 4.1, there is no Master Catalog.ircat. Is this normal?
Just installed lightroom x86 windows 7 onto a new laptop as network admin. Installed from the disk and licenced as net admin. I then go to create a new catalogue and type the name and save to My Docs "local HDD" once i select save the program closes. I get the windows 7 spinning ring but nothing else. If i click lightroom shortcut it won't load as it know's their is still an instance open in the background. I have it working on my machine using the same method.
View 9 Replies View RelatedAbout every other time I open Lightroom or switch the catalog, Lightroom will hang. Usually some thumbnails from the catalog will be visible; if it was after starting Lightroom, the splashscreen remains visible.
I am using Lightroom 5.3 64bit on Windows 7. (The problem was already there with Lightroom 3.6, but not quite as frequently)
My main catalog has about 14.000 pictures, a second catalog about 10.000. The problem exists with both catalogs.
Sometimes, deleting all previews works, sometimes the catalog remains unopenable.
I have rebuild my catalog from scratch several times (losing all virtual copies and edit histories).
The least-data-loss method seems to be to rename the catalog directory, so Lightroom will create a new empty one. Then import all photos from the old renamed catalog.
What I have tried so far, to no avail:
- Upgrading from LR 3.6 to 5.3.
- New hardware (Mainboard/CPU/RAM/Power supply; CPU: AMD->Intel, Graphics: nVidia->Intel).
- Reinstalling Lightroom
- Deleting Preferences file
- Moving pictures from network drive to a local harddisk.
- Moving pictures and catalog to a different hard disk (physical, not just other partition).
- Stopping all unneeded services and processes, down to a bare minimum.
There is not a whole lot of other software running on my machine: Dropbox, iTunes background services, Spyder3 monitor calibration, MS Security Essentias, Epson Print driver Icon. No toolbars, desktop-apps or what have you.
I have just started with Lr 5.3. I have created a slideshow. I have more pix in Lr -how can I select and add to the slideshow?

I cannot open LR4. I get an, "Unexpected error opening catalog. The catalog could not be opened due to an unexpected error." This occurred after a WIN7 update failed. It restored the system to an earlier version. In doing so, it also reverted LR4.2 to LR4.1. I have seen other threads to open a different catalog and/or create a new. The problem is that once I go to "Choose a different catalog", I get the Windows screen where I can select my backup. I select the backup catalog and click "Open". The window goes away, but the underlying LR "Select a Catalog" window still only shows 1 catalog to open.....my original catalog. The backup doesn't show up in the list. (The backup is not a network drive and it is not read-protected.)
I then try the "Create a new catalog", get the Windows screen, enter a new name and click "Save". The same thing happens. The Windows screen goes away and the LR "Select a Catalog" window still shows the orignal catalog in the list. Thus, I cannot create nor choose a different catalog.
How to select pictures a to z from the main collection to create a collection without clicking each picture.

A lot of pictures of my collection do have GPS-data in EXIF-header. Sometimes they are shown on the world-map, sometimes not. In list-view they are never shown. The list-view knows only locations, which are matched with PSE.
The EXIF-input was made by two different tools (Holux GPS Software and Geosetter 3.4.16).
How can I get the list-view for the saved files without using PSE adding location?
The 'application' I am trying to make currently adds entites to a drawing. Each entity has data associated with it but also part of a tree of infomation so I store xrecord data along with the objectID in a dictionary tree within the drawing.
I want to be able to select multiple entities and have any matching data shown in a palette. The same way the properties palette behaves.
I have it working but I can see AutoCAD crunching the data. It cycles through the selection set and the dictionary tree extracting entity data until it finds an ID match in the xrecord.
How the properties palette works so quickly or how I could improve the speed.
I have a problem with autocad 12 when i write command DC "design center" it don't work correct it show me the box but don't expand any drive to select !

I want to make a copy of a Lightroom 3 catalog to put on my laptop so while on the move I can be geo-tagging and keywording to 8000 photographs. I don't want to drag an external drive with me. I just want to be able to work on the catalog metadata and have all the updates/changes stored there (on the laptop)(in the catalog) and then transfer the catalog back to the desktop (to the primary archive) and have all the updates/changes pushed back into the DNG's or the XMP sidecar files alongside the CR2's. These changes would be only keywording and possibly writing GPS data into them….NOT image edits (that would probally require access to the original image files)
As a test, I tried "exporting as catalog", TWO images (with the source images "unavailable"). I flash-drived the resulting catalog to my laptop. I opened the catalog in LR3 and made changes to the metadata. I tried both "saving metadata to file" and "updating DNG previews" (which would be useless anyway since I could not write data back to the missing originals) and also tried doing nothing and just closing LR, then pulling the flashdrive and plugging it into the DESKTOP.(knowing the changes are stored within the catalog itself only) I open the 2 picture catalog in LR and see the keyword updates. Hurrah!
I switch over to the master catalog. All I want to do is import the updated metadata (keywording, contrast, etc…) back into the master catalog and push the data into the original DNG or XMP. On import I select "replace: Metadata and develop settings only" (with or without "preserve old settings" checked) and click import. Voila! NOTHING HAPPENS and the updated keywords are NOT picked up.
I know that the metadata updates were carried out because they showed up when I opened it separately in LR! For some reason they don't seem to making through the import process to the master catalog…
