View 3 RepliesWhen i import a DXF file into Illustrator created in AutoCAD, i have the problem that the positions of the elements (rectangles, circles etc.) are not on the exact position as created in AutoCAD. The variations are very minor (Centerposiotion of a element x 5mm y 5mm in AutoCad = x 4.969 y 4.949 after import in Illustrator). Sometimes the sizes of the elements variate also slightly (a line which is 102mm in AutoCAD is 101.99mm after import in Illustrator) but not generally.
I tried various files with different export versions from AutoCAD, including different measures such as mm to inch and points and so on. I tried also the different importing options in Illustrator. The closest i come is Centerposiotion of a element x 5mm y 5mm in AutoCad = x 4.969 y 4.949 but never exact. How to get a DXF file into illustrator by keeping every element in place and size?
I have been using CS5 Illustrator for over a year now and have had no problems until yesterday when I opened illustrator and was unable to place any images.
I can click on 'place' and go find the file, it appears to go through the right process then there is no image on the artboard at all, anywhere. Then I decided to open up previously made files that contain placed images and all they have is a bounding box with no image. The Links panel recognises the name of the file but no image is visable, even as a thumbnail.
A few weeks back my illustrator started resampling all of my high-res images to 72 dpi upon opening.
example:
Image A: Resolution 300, 877 x 591
I'll open that image in Illustrator (which, I've been doing for 8 years without problem) and here is what happens --
I get a bounding box of 877 x 591 - HOWEVER, the image is floating within that box at (what I'm guessing is around a 72 resolution) 213 x 142 pixels.
If I save the file out at 72 dpi - the image pulls up the right size in illustrator - it's just any image file that's a higher res than 72.
I'm running CS5
How can I import images onto an existing template?

I'm trying to import some JPEG images into illustrator to add a very simple vector graphic over the top of some of them. The prolem is that when I import the images the don't appear at the same resolution as they should be. The images are all 600px x 400px 72dpi but when I import them into illustrator the software is readinig them (via the w & h dimensions in my illy browser) as 144px x 96px. The odd thing is that when I export them from Illustrator they're showing as 600x400px images again. Is this somethign to do with my import settings or preferences?

I will be exporting my illustrator CS4 document as a pdf for on-line viewing. Rather than typing in the url, I would like to put in a word like WEBSITE - select the word and have it link to the site like this hyperlink doesPuting in the whole url in the document is too long and clutters the page layout
How do I do this in my illustrator document?
I am working with Illustrator files that have psd images placed in them. Each image has a shadow that is a separate image placed into illustrator on separate layer. So what I end up with is "image" layer and a "shadow" layer with their respective images in them. What I would like to do without having to group these is somehow linking images on separate layers so that when I move one the other moves as well.
I know that this isn`t a very logical way of managing these objects and if I could I would do it differently but it is a work method that is implemented and I have to abide to.
I have just converted to Illustrator CS6 Creative Cloud and can't get placed JPG files in Illustrator to link to Photoshop? Only PSD files will open Photoshop when I click on "Edit Original".
View 3 Replies View RelatedRegarding the conversion of an excel sheet into Illustrator variables... I am able to import an excel sheet into Illustrator datasets. I am curious if it is possible to link the excel file to the Illustrator data sets, so that when I alter something within the excel sheet, the data sets automatically change. Is this possible? Or must I always freshly convert/import the excel file?

I'm trying to link an image in psd file on the Illustrator. PReviously, it has no problem, however, today when I try to do that it didn't appear in illustrator. It only have a rectangular box with an X across it. I have tried to do stuff like Bring forward or Bring to the front, but it didn't work.
I'm working with some files that must be saved as .ai files and then emailed. I linked a photo, gave it a drop shadow and saved the file. The original file without the photo was about 1.5 mb. The size of the photo is about 2 mb. After I linked the file and then saved it, my .ai file was 21 mb which is too large to email. Why is the file size so large, especially when the picture is not embedded?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am creating virtual samples of several hundred coffee mugs using PS CS 5.5. (I have access to CS6 but haven't installed it.) There will be two views of each mug, front and back. The images to be wrapped around the mug are PDFs of identical rectangular dimensions. In general, the effect I seek happens automatically using the 3D cylinder or soda can shapes.
1. Is it possible to buy and install other shapes? Can I buy a white coffee mug?
2. I was also thinking about doing this using the wrap tool and "placing" the image on a mug, then changing the opacity to multiply. Doing it this way makes the effect look more "real." But I don't know how to automate it or if it can be. So far, I'm thinking this would all be hand work.
I have tried to disable photoshop's feature that turns raster images into smart objects when you drag them onto an existing picture, as well as the resizing that occurs. Neither of these general preference settings seems to have any effect.Fully updated CS6
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm working with InDesign CS5.5 on a Mac and need to import multiple images into separate layers. The imprint project has a base layer template and several company logos that need to go into their own layer. Is there a way to bring all the logos in at once and have them create their own layer without manually creating each layer and placing images one by one? Can InDesign do this automatically or is there a script? I can't seem to find a way to automate this process.

I have a large job for a client who uses antique computers. They are so old that he can't run Lightroom. As a workaround, I posted the images I wanted him to look at on SmugMug and we had a disaster. Their sequencing on screen does not match my "as shot" sorting on my Lightroom (4). Is there a way I can print sequential serial numbers/ids on my images before I upload them to SmugMug so we are always talking about the same image?

I've been bringing the pictures in as raster images from the work Network rather than saving the pictures to my C:drive as I don't want them to disappear, losing the link when others access the drawing from work.
When I do this everything slows down....
...Even saving the drawing back to the Network can take in excess of 40mins...
Is it possible on AutoCAD LT to embed the images but not make the drawing to big to work with?
In an HDV project in CS5 Premirer Pro, I am importing images from a source file into the project window and then onto the timeline. These are separate jpg images, each one with a different filename albeit the first three letters of the filename are the same. When the images are imported, although the filenames are as they appear in the source folder, the actual images are all identical - usually to the first image in the group. It makes no difference whether I import the images separately or as a group - the same problem persists. I have tried clearing the media cache and re-starting the computer. No use.
