I have just converted to Illustrator CS6 Creative Cloud and can't get placed JPG files in Illustrator to link to Photoshop? Only PSD files will open Photoshop when I click on "Edit Original".
View 3 RepliesI'm working with some files that must be saved as .ai files and then emailed. I linked a photo, gave it a drop shadow and saved the file. The original file without the photo was about 1.5 mb. The size of the photo is about 2 mb. After I linked the file and then saved it, my .ai file was 21 mb which is too large to email. Why is the file size so large, especially when the picture is not embedded?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI prefer using the proxy workflow for fullhd editing because it allows fast timeline scrolling. My video rushes are all on external disks. Creating a project and proxies is no problem (takes some time). The problem however is, when I re-open VS with a project for which I created the proxies before, while the related external disk is not active (removed), I still get the tumbnails in the VS library, but I lose the proxies even after the external disk is being restarted. The strange thing is that the proxies (.upx files) are still in my proxy folder (local disk) when opened in Windows, but the VS proxy file manager doesn't see them anymore. Is this normal?
View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there an easy way to remember how to correctly link parameters between 3 or more files? It seems like such a confusing way to do such a simple task. I am going into the parameters of each file and linking or deriving other file properties. Currently I don't have a dummy part file that controls all of the parameters. Maybe that's part of it. I've never done this using excel. Would this be any easier? I am just frustrated with the way I know how and wish there was an easier way to go about it. I keep getting the cyclic dependency warning and somewhat understand what this means, how why it's happening (or how to correct it).

I have an assembly drawing made with 2 parts in it. I have the assembly drawing as Sheet 1 and each part also in the file as Sheet 2 and Sheet 3. What I have a problem with is that when I change or update the original files for Sheets 2 and 3 it doesn't update the sheets in the assembly drawing. Is there a way to keep these files connected. I need to have the standard sheets for filing and part designation, but when production call for the assembly to be needed, the assembly (Sheet1) with the Attached part drawings (Sheets 2 & 3) hit the production floor. Without them linked a mistake will be made. There are to many engineers in my department and we all make production changes to parts and if they are not linked bad things will happen. I am just trying this out, we have a lot of assemblies that will be great for the production if I can get all the part and assembly files to work together and print at the same time from on file.
I am using Inventor 2012 if that matters.
I will be exporting my illustrator CS4 document as a pdf for on-line viewing. Rather than typing in the url, I would like to put in a word like WEBSITE - select the word and have it link to the site like this hyperlink doesPuting in the whole url in the document is too long and clutters the page layout
How do I do this in my illustrator document?
I am working with Illustrator files that have psd images placed in them. Each image has a shadow that is a separate image placed into illustrator on separate layer. So what I end up with is "image" layer and a "shadow" layer with their respective images in them. What I would like to do without having to group these is somehow linking images on separate layers so that when I move one the other moves as well.
I know that this isn`t a very logical way of managing these objects and if I could I would do it differently but it is a work method that is implemented and I have to abide to.
If I bring link in a dwg file origin to origin. The line work comes in correct and straight but in the wrong position.
If I link in a dwg file by shared coordinates it comes in in the right position but the dwg lines aren't straight if you move the mouse they jump around.
Regarding the conversion of an excel sheet into Illustrator variables... I am able to import an excel sheet into Illustrator datasets. I am curious if it is possible to link the excel file to the Illustrator data sets, so that when I alter something within the excel sheet, the data sets automatically change. Is this possible? Or must I always freshly convert/import the excel file?

I'm trying to link an image in psd file on the Illustrator. PReviously, it has no problem, however, today when I try to do that it didn't appear in illustrator. It only have a rectangular box with an X across it. I have tried to do stuff like Bring forward or Bring to the front, but it didn't work.
I can not "place" an images, instead of linking is importing.....

I just purchased Photoshop CS2 and I noticed the linking feature for layers has been changed. I used to be able to link layers together by clicking in th box with the chain link, but now that box is gone. I did notice there is the link symbol at the bottom of the layers palette, but it's constantly disabled. How do I link layers in CS2?

There has to be a way to link the layers so that I don't have to move them over one by one and then have to try to reposition them again.
I don't want to flatten the layers as I want to be able to move them around if I need to later.
When I go to the link layers icon at the bottom of the palette it won't let me choose it.
When changing the blending modes of a layer ( say to color burn or soemthing) does that blending mode effect all layers below the current layer or just the one immediately below? If its all then how can you set it so it only effects the one below?

I've tried to link and paste and I can't get multiple layers highlighted to link. So I'm trying to make this sort of portal (based on a videogame).
I got the portal like I want it to be, but when I link the Color Balance effect to the Portal layer (so that it only effects that layer) the color just disappears, leaving me with a white portal.
But it needs to be done, otherwise it effects my other layers to and turn everything red.

Any Extension that Links Smart objects. Much the same way you would link in InDesign or Illustrator?
I used to use one in CS4 'Smart Objects Link Panel',but since upgrading to CC I cannot use this extension.
I have to add an object to an exsisting image that has lets say 30-40 layers. In doing so, I have to move the entire image up or down, so I have to link all the layers to move it up or down. I can't merge the layers, because I have to use the same image several ways, so is there a quick way to "link all" layers, move, then "unlink all" layers in Photoshop 7??
I know that Select-All layers doesn't do the trick.
I work on a lot of files with 4-6 layers each, and then need to link them to create layer sets, to move them onto other files, where I combine the whole lot (we have a photographic studio, so it's for multiple images in wedding 'books' rather than separate photographs in albums).
I deal with hundreds of files a week, so I'm trying to automate it as far as possible. I've got most of it sorted, but I can't find any command or shortcut to link all of the layers. Is there one? For now, I've set up an action that links each individual layer and then creates the set, but that only works when I've got the same number of layers each time.
