I will be exporting my illustrator CS4 document as a pdf for on-line viewing. Rather than typing in the url, I would like to put in a word like WEBSITE - select the word and have it link to the site like this hyperlink doesPuting in the whole url in the document is too long and clutters the page layout
How do I do this in my illustrator document?
I'm using AI CC now, but I noticed this problem in earlier versions of AI: If I want to place a one-word label on an illustration I move the type insertion cursor to a speific point on the screen image and click, but then the flashing insertion point, where the label will actually start, pops up elsewhere, usually a line or two above where the cursor was, and a pica or two to the left, forcing me to type the label, then move it into position rather than simply typing it in the right place and moving on. The problem is merely annoying, but I'd like to fix it. It's probably a matter of ignorance-I simply haven't read the right documentation, but I don't know what to call the problem. Where can I find out how to change the position of the cursor relative to the insertion point?

I have tried to use the direct selection tool to select the circle first and without the direct selection.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy Type Tool does not select type by double clicking or click and drag. (Windows CS 5 V15.1). This is what I have tried so far and the problem still exists.
Check preferences for "Text": "Select text-object by path only" should be off. Checked. It was off. Didn't fix it.
Check the toggle for Show/Hide Edges in the View menu. Cmd(Ctrl)-H. Checked. Edges Showing. Didn't fix it.
Trashed my Prefeerences. Didn't fix it.
Working on a poster in Illustrator. Have added area type, using the type tool. Now I'd like to increase the size of one line. I can't select or edit any of the type with the type tool. I moved the type to a new layer, saved, closed Illustrator, restarted my Mac (OS X 10.7.4). Looked in preferences, in case there's an issue there. No luck.
By the way, I also don't see handles when in the selection tool any more. Don't know if that's related.
I am working with Illustrator files that have psd images placed in them. Each image has a shadow that is a separate image placed into illustrator on separate layer. So what I end up with is "image" layer and a "shadow" layer with their respective images in them. What I would like to do without having to group these is somehow linking images on separate layers so that when I move one the other moves as well.
I know that this isn`t a very logical way of managing these objects and if I could I would do it differently but it is a work method that is implemented and I have to abide to.
I have just converted to Illustrator CS6 Creative Cloud and can't get placed JPG files in Illustrator to link to Photoshop? Only PSD files will open Photoshop when I click on "Edit Original".

I am curious if it is possible to link the excel file to the Illustrator data sets, so that when I alter something within the excel sheet, the data sets automatically change. Is this possible? Or must I always freshly convert/import the excel file?

I'm trying to link an image in psd file on the Illustrator. PReviously, it has no problem, however, today when I try to do that it didn't appear in illustrator. It only have a rectangular box with an X across it. I have tried to do stuff like Bring forward or Bring to the front, but it didn't work.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm working with some files that must be saved as .ai files and then emailed. I linked a photo, gave it a drop shadow and saved the file. The original file without the photo was about 1.5 mb. The size of the photo is about 2 mb. After I linked the file and then saved it, my .ai file was 21 mb which is too large to email. Why is the file size so large, especially when the picture is not embedded?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI choose the vertical type tool or the vertical type on a path tool or the vertical area type tool...and all I get are letters that are rotated 90 degrees clockwise that go down in a vertical line. The effect is the same as if I took one of these lines that I am typeing here and rotated the entire line 90 degrees clockwise. That is not the effect I want. I am tying to get vertical letters stacked on top of one another in a line going vertical. I watched videos and they simply pick the tool and it functions this way, but when I pick the same tool I do not get this vertical orientation of the individual letters, but the 90 degree rotated letter.

That was created in Photoshop using the following Drop Shadow options:
Blend Mode: Normal
Distance: 0
Spread:100
Size: 10
Now, in Illustrator you just get blur - it doesn't quite work the same, I have no idea why they don't just use the tools found in photoshop to allow you to change all of this?
Reason I'm asking is because I want to import these words into flash and I want to be able to scale them without losing quality. Flash has the most basic tools I have ever seen for graphics so I can't see it being able to be done in there.
Anyone know how to replicate this in Illustrator so I can use it as a vector in flash?
I keep having issues with the text tool so here is what i did. I opened a new document, clicked the "Type tool", drew a box with it and starting typing, now everything was working as it should, while typing when i would get to the right side of the "Type tool" box i had drawn, the text would stay within the box and the next line would begin sorte of like this (asume the imaginary box is four spaces long):

But then i started to do the same thing later in the project and the text would stay on one line and just disappear when it got to the end of the box, and i dont know how to get it working like it did before. When reshaping the box the text would stay the same size (was not a point type problem) but the text would basically just run off the end of the box and disappear, here is an example using the same text i showed above, but i'll use "b" to simulate the last four "a" lines which in this case the "b"'s will represent the invisible "a"'s. In this case the box is still four spaces wide and 5 spaces in height, but the text does not seem to acknowledge the box. And member i'm only using the "type tool", to draw these boxes, i'm not acutally drawing square shapes. Also i'm using Illustrator CC, and am using a mac.
Ok, this is probably a stupid question, but how do I align the type of different sizes. The F's don't align.

Is there a way in Illustrator CS6 to scale text inside a text box so that the text and box scale together proportionately? Not using the scale tool where you have to enter percentages, but using a keystroke. In Quark, you can do this by holding down Command + Shift and dragging the box. This will make the text and box bigger keeping the same dimensions. It's a very quick and easy way of changing the size of your text.

I need to have each generation in its individual "textbox" so that I can edit leading. If I combine each generation under one main name (1st gen through 5th gen) then the original leading would be impossible to recreate.
I have to different colors, one for the background and a second for the foreground. I want to know if there is a way that I could type my text across the background and it be the same color as the foreground and once it gets to the foreground it switches to the background color to be readable???

I will click on it, create a box or double click to have the horizontal blinking text line show up. When it shows up this time it is a dot and does not show type on screen. It seems the 3D Extrude feature requires that the type be angled for the extrusion to be visible.
I have tried making a text box in CS6 with a type size of 4mm. When I copy and paste into the text box, the type stays the same as what has been copied and I cannot change it. I have a text box that says it is 4mm text but it has condensed type and all different fonts within it. I cannot get it to unify the font and font size together.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI open PDFs in Illustrator that were created in Autodesk Inventor. The default of Myriad Pro is applied and I would like to change that. I have made a new document profile and a new workspace, but the profile is only good for a new document. The workspace does not change the default type. I could save lots of time if I could change this behavior! I am working in CS6 on a 64-bit Windows machine.
Perhaps it is only a question of getting Illustrator to recognize Arial?
