I'm trying to replicate the type effect (upper arc and lower arc combined) that's shown in the example below in Illustrator. So far, my attempts haven't been fruitful. The example might be hand-drawn and there might not be a way to do it in illustrator.
View 1 RepliesWhen I select text in photoshop cs4, it seems to invert just the luminance (forgive me if my terminology is incorrect). That is to say, it doesn't change the color of stuff in the background, but it does invert whether it's light or dark. I've added an example to this post, the top text is selected and the bottom is not. I like the way the top selection looks and frequently would like to be able to do exactly this, and apply it to whole images. What's happening when you select text, is there a specific name for this effect, and how can I replicate it?
View 1 Replies View Relatedi've been driving myself to the edge of crazy over the past few hours trying to replicate this effect. i'm by no means a photoshop expert (obviously), but have used it for the past few years. still, i'm stuck at this and maybe it's really easy to solve. the effect i'm talking about is the following:
note how on the left side of the graphic, the item seems perfectly even with the background, yet on the right side it's "standing out" as if it was a sticker i have no problems achieving the background effect, but i'm stuck at how to get this effect done. i've tried rotating the graphic, twisting it, distorting it, but i can't seem to be able to replicate the effect correctly.
I'd like to look up how to replicate the effect in the image, but I'm too new to know what the effect is called.
I see two rectangles, and there's a "shadow" of some sort "under" the top rectangle.
What would you call that effect, and what tool would produce it?
I work for a small non-profit and we don't have the resources to use the sort of freelance designers I would love to use, so I have to do a lot in-house. Recently I saw an effect that I would like to replicate.
It's a small image but you can see that it's a picture that's been blended with a cool blue effect. I would like to do this, but am not sure how to get there.
I'd like to replicate the text effect in the image posted here. Colors are not a factor because it will be toned when complete. The effect appears to have the text washed out in parts as well as not horizontally aligned. The alignment part isn't that critical however . the washed out look is what I'm looking for.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm using AI CC now, but I noticed this problem in earlier versions of AI: If I want to place a one-word label on an illustration I move the type insertion cursor to a speific point on the screen image and click, but then the flashing insertion point, where the label will actually start, pops up elsewhere, usually a line or two above where the cursor was, and a pica or two to the left, forcing me to type the label, then move it into position rather than simply typing it in the right place and moving on. The problem is merely annoying, but I'd like to fix it. It's probably a matter of ignorance-I simply haven't read the right documentation, but I don't know what to call the problem. Where can I find out how to change the position of the cursor relative to the insertion point?

I have tried to use the direct selection tool to select the circle first and without the direct selection.

Check preferences for "Text": "Select text-object by path only" should be off. Checked. It was off. Didn't fix it.
Check the toggle for Show/Hide Edges in the View menu. Cmd(Ctrl)-H. Checked. Edges Showing. Didn't fix it.
Trashed my Prefeerences. Didn't fix it.
Working on a poster in Illustrator. Have added area type, using the type tool. Now I'd like to increase the size of one line. I can't select or edit any of the type with the type tool. I moved the type to a new layer, saved, closed Illustrator, restarted my Mac (OS X 10.7.4). Looked in preferences, in case there's an issue there. No luck.

By the way, I also don't see handles when in the selection tool any more. Don't know if that's related.
I want to create some type like you'd see on from the 3rd grade carbon copies, or on an artchitect's blue line print.

First, I have some text on an image I made, and when I highlighted the text it made the area behind look really cool in a way that I didn't anticipate. It sort of looked like a photo negative. So, I thought that maybe inverting the colors of the whole image would give me the same effect. Unfortunately, it wasn't nearly as good. So, is there anyway to make the image look like what it would look like if you highlighted a bunch of text on top of it? If somebody needs visuals to understand this, I can take a couple screenshots.
My second question is: is there any way to invert the colors of text? Also, if there is a way to do what I mentioned above, how could I do the same thing to text?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been trying for years off and on to recreate the look of a Type 55 Polaroid positive/negative effect. There are a few border effects software packages that offer similar effects, but they pale in comparison to the real thing.
I've recently resorted to scanning a Type 55 negative and thought it would be a simple matter to overlay this on an image, but am having difficulty keeping the nuances of the negative. I've tried deleting the white with different opacities and even layer blending options, but nothing concrete yet.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've had trouble creating a certain type of motion blur effect. Typically, motion blur radiates outward from one single point. However, What I would like is for a whole section of an image to be clear (for instance, a character's torso) and then have the image GRADUALLY get blurrier from there.
I cannot figure a way to do this (apart from a very long process of creating many duplicate layers and doing an independent motion blur for each one).
Attached is an example of what my attempts look like right now: an obvious line around the region that I'm trying to showcase, rather than a smooth, gradual transition into the motion blur.

Well, ran into an interesting filter result which looks similar to molten metal or something you would get with meta balls in a 3d program. Preety easy to get it too, just use your filter-render-fibers (default setting will work) then your filter-sketch-plaster (again, default settings may work) and whola. Playing with the setting in the plaster window will give you more or less metal as you see fit. Simple and maybe of some use to some...

I have some lines with outer glow on them, but Illustrator won't render these unless I use 72DPI in raster effects reslution. I would like to go higher, but it won't give me anything. Guessing it's to heavy for Illustrator maybe? Is there anything I can do about this? I'm making my graphics in 1:1 scale, but I do it in a lower scale since it's just vector art anyway, however how would that effect my glow? Since it's a raster effect.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI choose the vertical type tool or the vertical type on a path tool or the vertical area type tool...and all I get are letters that are rotated 90 degrees clockwise that go down in a vertical line. The effect is the same as if I took one of these lines that I am typeing here and rotated the entire line 90 degrees clockwise. That is not the effect I want. I am tying to get vertical letters stacked on top of one another in a line going vertical. I watched videos and they simply pick the tool and it functions this way, but when I pick the same tool I do not get this vertical orientation of the individual letters, but the 90 degree rotated letter.Â
