I'm working with some files that must be saved as .ai files and then emailed. I linked a photo, gave it a drop shadow and saved the file. The original file without the photo was about 1.5 mb. The size of the photo is about 2 mb. After I linked the file and then saved it, my .ai file was 21 mb which is too large to email. Why is the file size so large, especially when the picture is not embedded?

I've done that but I keep reaching the limit on my email. How exactly can I send the file over in both pdf and cdr without going over the size limit?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm having a problem with PSE 11 saving my files in a size too large for transmission by email even when I use the "low" quality option. I have to send files for commerical ads for review to clients via email and even set at "low" for an 8.5 x 11 page the size of the file is 25mg as opposed to 33.7 for "high". The jpg file set a high quality is only 4mg. Is there an issue with the PDF format on PSE 11 (didn't have this problem until I upgraded)?

After inserting quite a lot of linked images (without embedding), the file size becomes much larger, up too nearly 400MB.
I saved without pfd compatible function already, but the file size is sill very large. I did not face the same problem working with CS5 before, is that a bug for CS6?
I have just converted to Illustrator CS6 Creative Cloud and can't get placed JPG files in Illustrator to link to Photoshop? Only PSD files will open Photoshop when I click on "Edit Original".

I've prepared this in the 'print' module but when I press 'print to file...' it warns me that the file is 760mb and I may run out of memory! Is this file to large to sent to a printer, how can I reduce the size of the file without reducing the quality of the print? or is this just a standard file size for a large format printed image?

The dimensions of the poster are 27" x 40" (industry standard film poster).I am a little uncertain in working with large files in Illustrator, so I have several problems that have come up in several design projects using similar large formats.
The file size is MASSIVE. This poster uses several large, high-res images that I've embedded. I didn't want them to pixelate, so I made sure they were high quality. After embedding all these images, along with the vector graphics, the entire .ai file is 500MB. How can I reduce this file size? Can I do something with the images to make the .ai file smaller? I made my artboard 27" x 40" - the final size of the poster. Is this standard practice? Or when designing for a large print format, are you supposed to make a smaller, more manageable artboard size, and then scale up after to avoid these massive file sizes?
I need to upload my support files for the project, including .ai and .eps - so it won't work if they're 500MB. This would be good info to understand for all projects I think.
I have an .eps file that contains a couple of dots and some hash marks, but the file size is ~4.2MB. I have deleted the unused color swatches, bringing the file size down to ~3.3MB. At this point however, I cannot figure out why the file is still so large. Judging from the number of unused color swatches, thousands if not tens of thousands, I am thinking that the user has been importing artwork into this same template for years. With that in mind, what other objects can accumulate to create an unusually large file size? I believe we can have the user create a new template, but I would like to know exactly what is happening so that we can prevent this issue from occuring in the future.

Saving a large file from illustrator to PDF. The pdf is only saving the printer marks and bleeds. Checked the layers in the pdf. Made sure the pdf compatible was checked in Illustrator.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI duplicated one of my previously created CS6 Adobe Illustrator files (28 MB) with photos that have clipping masks. Why is my new AI file now 148 MB in size, when all of my newly linked jpeg graphics total only 9 MB? If I save it as a regular pdf it's 148MB, but if I save this same file with the smallest size pdf format, it reduces it down to only 242 KB. No files are embedded either in my newly created AI file. My business associate working on other Illustrator files experiences this same phenomenon sporadically at times too. It has us both baffled.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI work in a print shop that prints biggish stuff. I will frequently have files that postscript to close to a GB or more. Working on simple vector art with a few images in CC is not too much of a problem, but I still notice CC is slower than CS 6. The big problem is when I get a few 200mb PDF's, or files with layers of transparent PSD files in them etc, big busy files, then AI CC really bogs down, or frequently crashes altogether. CS 6 is MUCH better. I don't have the font issues, AI CC works fine with simple files. Saving & opening these big files is such a problem, I just save them back to CS 6, but that causes problems too, I do not want to, nor should I have to have 2 versions open at the same time.
I always try to optimize the files as best possible, but it is tough sometimes as they R supplied by the customer, and the time it takes. We save to a Windows Server 2008 R2 box over gigabit network, which I know is not best practice, but no choice with the sheer volume of files. Would B insane to try to keep track & copy them back & forth, and it was never a big issue with CS 6. I am the first victim in our office, but the other 3 Mac Pro's will B switching over to CC this week, and I know the operators will B crying.

Dealing with large prints (72in x 36in @350dpi).
I've been commissioned to make a large print (12ft by 3ft) for a gallery. They want me to use a preferred printer who requires a final output resolution of 300-350dpi. My source file is an Illustrator file (CS5.1) containing MANY (100's) overlapping, transparent polygons). The printer initially told me that it was fine to supply the Illustrator file as two parts, 6ft x 3ft with everything as vectors. They just got back to me and rejected my files, now requesting full resolution TIFFs.
I have tried to flatten the transparency and output to TIFF, but either Illustrator hangs indefinitely halfway in the process or errors out, telling me that the combination of size and resolution is impossible to output. I've even tried to import to photoshop as smart object, etc. It appears that I'm running out of memory/cpu power/illustrator abilities even though I tried this on a quad cpu mac pro with 12GB of memory. At the moment, how to rasterize my vector art at anywhere near acceptable resolution. The image is very dense, and full of subtle changes in color and density due to the transparency. I need to preserve it as much as possible.
using Illustrator CS. My Illustrator document size is 10,000 x 1920 pixels. I need to export from Illustrator at this size at 72 dpi but Illustrator says:
“Could not Export. Rasterized Image Exceeds Maximum Bounds for Save for Web"
I tried using “Export" and "Save for Web” but I get the same answer.
Can someone using CS 5 open a new document 10,000 x 1920 pixels and try to export it at 72 dpi and tell me if it works?
Is my illustrator running slow? I have an i7 3770K, 16gb ram, gtx 660i 2g, h100i, ax1200i and maximus formula v. I'm running dual 24" 1920x1080 monitors. File size is 800x600 pixals with 5 layers and 100+ paths in each layer. Is the program running slow because the file is too big or is there a problem with illustrator?

Had previously done the verification code thing and got the code and have been sending pics by photo email.Have got PS10 loaded to my Desk Top - main system and also my laptop .When trying now to send pics on my DeskTop I can get to the (maybe second) screen where you choose the size of the phots and then I get the Verification Code screen - which tells me that an 'initial verification code' will be emailed to the chosen email - but when I say continue, I go to the next screen of the Photo email and then when trying to send the phto email it locks up and says an unexpected error has taken place ...
I have sent some photos via the laptop but it seems to be very hit and miss at the moment.Also I have some problems opening PSE10 - When I click on the icon - I get the initial "organise or edit" screen where I choose organise - but then all that happens is this screen closes and the Organiser does not open. Most of the time I'm left with maybe shutting down my whole computer and starting up again and it works again.
I prefer using the proxy workflow for fullhd editing because it allows fast timeline scrolling. My video rushes are all on external disks. Creating a project and proxies is no problem (takes some time). The problem however is, when I re-open VS with a project for which I created the proxies before, while the related external disk is not active (removed), I still get the tumbnails in the VS library, but I lose the proxies even after the external disk is being restarted. The strange thing is that the proxies (.upx files) are still in my proxy folder (local disk) when opened in Windows, but the VS proxy file manager doesn't see them anymore. Is this normal?
View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there an easy way to remember how to correctly link parameters between 3 or more files? It seems like such a confusing way to do such a simple task. I am going into the parameters of each file and linking or deriving other file properties. Currently I don't have a dummy part file that controls all of the parameters. Maybe that's part of it. I've never done this using excel. Would this be any easier? I am just frustrated with the way I know how and wish there was an easier way to go about it. I keep getting the cyclic dependency warning and somewhat understand what this means, how why it's happening (or how to correct it).

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an assembly drawing made with 2 parts in it. I have the assembly drawing as Sheet 1 and each part also in the file as Sheet 2 and Sheet 3. What I have a problem with is that when I change or update the original files for Sheets 2 and 3 it doesn't update the sheets in the assembly drawing. Is there a way to keep these files connected. I need to have the standard sheets for filing and part designation, but when production call for the assembly to be needed, the assembly (Sheet1) with the Attached part drawings (Sheets 2 & 3) hit the production floor. Without them linked a mistake will be made. There are to many engineers in my department and we all make production changes to parts and if they are not linked bad things will happen. I am just trying this out, we have a lot of assemblies that will be great for the production if I can get all the part and assembly files to work together and print at the same time from on file.
I am using Inventor 2012 if that matters.

How do I do this in my illustrator document?
I am working with Illustrator files that have psd images placed in them. Each image has a shadow that is a separate image placed into illustrator on separate layer. So what I end up with is "image" layer and a "shadow" layer with their respective images in them. What I would like to do without having to group these is somehow linking images on separate layers so that when I move one the other moves as well.
I know that this isn`t a very logical way of managing these objects and if I could I would do it differently but it is a work method that is implemented and I have to abide to.
