Saving a large file from illustrator to PDF. The pdf is only saving the printer marks and bleeds. Checked the layers in the pdf. Made sure the pdf compatible was checked in Illustrator.
View 3 RepliesI have CS5 and whenever I try saving any file type to PDF it maximizes the file size tremendously. I have flattened the layers so that is not the issue, and it doesnt seem to do it with other file formats, so it makes me think there is a hidden preset that i cant find pertaining to PDF formatting. Example: Opened up a PDF file sized at 3.1M, and saved it without making any changes and it jumped to a size of 10.3M. (I tried doing the same thing in Photoshop 7 and the file stays at the size of 3.1M.)
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an .eps file that contains a couple of dots and some hash marks, but the file size is ~4.2MB. I have deleted the unused color swatches, bringing the file size down to ~3.3MB. At this point however, I cannot figure out why the file is still so large. Judging from the number of unused color swatches, thousands if not tens of thousands, I am thinking that the user has been importing artwork into this same template for years. With that in mind, what other objects can accumulate to create an unusually large file size? I believe we can have the user create a new template, but I would like to know exactly what is happening so that we can prevent this issue from occuring in the future.

I duplicated one of my previously created CS6 Adobe Illustrator files (28 MB) with photos that have clipping masks. Why is my new AI file now 148 MB in size, when all of my newly linked jpeg graphics total only 9 MB? If I save it as a regular pdf it's 148MB, but if I save this same file with the smallest size pdf format, it reduces it down to only 242 KB. No files are embedded either in my newly created AI file. My business associate working on other Illustrator files experiences this same phenomenon sporadically at times too. It has us both baffled.
View 4 Replies View Relatedusing Illustrator CS. My Illustrator document size is 10,000 x 1920 pixels. I need to export from Illustrator at this size at 72 dpi but Illustrator says:
“Could not Export. Rasterized Image Exceeds Maximum Bounds for Save for Web"
I tried using “Export" and "Save for Web” but I get the same answer.
Can someone using CS 5 open a new document 10,000 x 1920 pixels and try to export it at 72 dpi and tell me if it works?
Is my illustrator running slow? I have an i7 3770K, 16gb ram, gtx 660i 2g, h100i, ax1200i and maximus formula v. I'm running dual 24" 1920x1080 monitors. File size is 800x600 pixals with 5 layers and 100+ paths in each layer. Is the program running slow because the file is too big or is there a problem with illustrator?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm working with some files that must be saved as .ai files and then emailed. I linked a photo, gave it a drop shadow and saved the file. The original file without the photo was about 1.5 mb. The size of the photo is about 2 mb. After I linked the file and then saved it, my .ai file was 21 mb which is too large to email. Why is the file size so large, especially when the picture is not embedded?

I saved without pfd compatible function already, but the file size is sill very large. I did not face the same problem working with CS5 before, is that a bug for CS6?
I've got a large file that is about 72x54. I want to cut it up into pieces that are about 24x18 and print it pieces that I will tile together as a whole image after I print them. Is there a way to save out my file as 24x18 pieces?

When saving a file using the 'Save' option (not 'Save As') the file is not staying at the size of the artboard as it should, it is however being aurtomatically cropped down to the actual artwork size. This is causing issues with the Process we work with as we need the file to stay at the artboard size.If I click 'Save As' and change the Adobe PDF Preset to 'Press Quality' then this works, however this means that every file we save(which is quite alot in a day) means we have to go through the 'Save As' option and manually change each save.why this has suddenly started to happen with our Illustrators and do you know how to fix this so that it stays at the Artboard size when 'Save' is used?

I saved a symbols file with a few symbols in it.
I then create new .ai files - create some graphics then want to save some of them in the symbols file.
I dont see a way of saving symbols from the .ai file into the already existing symbols file.
I have simply created a special ellipse in illustrator that I want to save to file and import to an iPhone application. I was wondering about the following:
1) How do I make the file so that just the ellipse appears, ie cut everything else out of the file, all the white space, so that there just exists space for the ellipse shape and the ellipse shape only.
2) What file format would be the best to save it to?
I have a artboard measuing 8" x 10".
When I save it as a PDF file for the printshop, it changes the size to 9.5 x 12.

I have created a project within Illustrator CC (However, I am not too familiar with this program). My client has a later version of Illustrator (CS4) and wishes to be able to open it in their office. When saving it as a general Illustrator file, he is able to open it when I save it as an IDML. However, when packaging the project in CC, I cannot chose this option (IDML CS5 or later) and they are left being unable to open the file.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I have a file in Illustrator that I want to save as or export as a PDF or JPEG whenever I save it the colours shift and the quality drops.Most noticiably black boxes goes to a muddy brown when saved to JPEGS, but I have also noticed tones in Photographs change quite a lot when saving as PDF.
I have tried to tweek every type of setting there is. higher resoulution, compression, sampling, down sampling, PDF preset, print quality etc.but nothing seems to sort it out. PDF's arent as much as a problem as the JPEG but the only way I have managed to get a PDF up to a reasonable standard is by wacking everything up so there is no compression or downsampling which makes ginat files I cant email....
Im sure the problem probably lies within the combination of each of these together but I cant seem to find out what that is. Also brown in the seat base has gone more orange and the whole picture has generaly lost quality.
My coworker and I both have the same version of Illustratir (CS6) and both use Lion on iMacs, but today noticed something weird. He saved a file similar to a file I had done before as both an eps and a pdf and his file size was more than twice what my file sizes usually are. I thought it was odd, so I copied everything from his file into a new file (same dimensions) and saved out an eps and pdf (default settings), and like I thought, my files were less than half the size of his.
Why would two machines be saving identical files at different sizes? Is there a setting somewhere I'm missing? Everything in the file is vector, if it matters. There's not even any editable text.
I am having an impossible time finding an answer to this question. How do you keep text editable when saving an EPS in Illustrator CS5 down to Illustrator 10? Every time I open it, the text is either converted to points or it is broken up into single letters which is hardly useful for the end-user to take and edit.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a large psb file which is an image of 39k by 27k pixels at 48 bpp. The image size is about 5.7 GB. PS CS6 trial only gives me the option to save it as a TIFF or Photoshop RAW only. I would like to use this large image as a master copy from which I can sample lesser quality images for printing. How can I save such images as a JPG or BMP file, that is down sample it and place the result in a smaller jpg or bmp file?
I read some other similar discussions and they all concern problems with the plugins folder. I have not inserted any plugins from previous CS versions. The only plugins that I have in there are authorized CS6 plugins for the scanner fix from Adobe. Is it even possible to down sample from such a large image?
I'm having some trouble saving large, print-quality jpgs at 150 dpi. It seems that photoshop will only save the files, as long as they don't exceed a certain physical size.
The size I'm trying to save right now is 37" x 33" in inches or "5550 x 4950" in pixels.
When I save the file, even if I move the compression slider down halfway, it'll save, but it won't allow me to open it again, saying "invalid jpeg marker type found."
I have both 32- and 64-bit versions of Adobe Illustrator CS6 The error occurs only with the 64-bit version,The error occurs only when saving files containing text objects.Unchecking "Create PDF Compatible File" doesn't solve the problem. Resetting Illustrator's settings also doesn't work.
It's pretty much time taking switching between the two versions and I also have files pretty big enough that require opening in the 64 bit version.
I'm working on building an action in Illustrator CS5 that will do the following..Delete the layer "original artwork"Select AllCreate OutlinesSave as PDF "content.pdf" to the current working folder with specific settings in the Save PDF prompt..Up to step 4 this is pretty simple, but so far when trying to record the saving step it insists on using the directory that I'm building the action in - not the relative one based on where the current file is opened. Also, unlike the 'Save For Web JPEG' default Illustrator action, the PDF saving step doesn't retain any of the specific settings within the action.

How can I back save illustrator files created in CC (CS7 version???) to CS6 without losing layers? when I open the files in CS6 it says "some info will be lost' Ha! all layers and separation is lost, so cannot separate parts whole file seems grouped and cannot be separated? When I go back to my (other) computer where I was foolish enough to upgrade to CC, way to save back as I can with InDesign and saving as a idml file.
