I'm having some trouble saving large, print-quality jpgs at 150 dpi. It seems that photoshop will only save the files, as long as they don't exceed a certain physical size.
The size I'm trying to save right now is 37" x 33" in inches or "5550 x 4950" in pixels.
When I save the file, even if I move the compression slider down halfway, it'll save, but it won't allow me to open it again, saying "invalid jpeg marker type found."
Until recently when I saved a 1000px x 1000px file as a jpg at 10 in CS6 on a Mac with Snow Leopard, the resulting file would be about 600-700k. Now the same process results in at file twice that size, about 1.2-1.5 mb. I have tried everything I can think of to find the source and correction for this phenomenon. Save for the Web works normally.
View 5 Replies View Related I bought one of the new iPad 3’s (AKA The New iPad) and can’t get the latest version of iTunes to sync JPG’s with Windows 7 64 bit.
I have cleared the iTunes cache and reinstalled iTunes but nothing is working. To test it I transferred the same library to a Mac and it synced with the new iPad with no problems. After much trouble shooting I have narrowed it down to iTunes on Windows 7 64 bit is not working. I have tried this on a couple of different PC’s and also have an iPad 1 and 2. The iPad 2 sort of works but the 3 is terrible. Apple really hates Microsoft and makes no effort to develop for it or conduct quality control.
After escalating this with Apple Care I got to meet the engineer who works on this. After some research he admitted that iTunes does not work with JPG’s larger than 9K pixels per side. This upset me so I made an appointment with the Apple Genius Bar to complain. The option they gave me was to return my old iPad 1 and 2 for 100% cash refund on an Apple gift card.
I copy a digital image from my Canon Rebel to my New Imac running OS Lion and Adobe CS5.When I view the file size, it's 3 MB before I open or do anything to it.
I open it in Photoshop and run some filters on it and the size climbs to 16 MB after I save as JPG baseline quality 12.If I again open that jpg (16MB) and apply "unsharp" mask" 6 more times and then save as JPG, baseline quality 12, the file size climbs to 20 MB on my mac.
I use Lightroom 4 to start my workflow on a MacBook laptop. I export my RAW image as a PSD file, then open the PSD in PSE 10. When I'm done working on the PSD file I want to save it as a JPG. But I can't find the JPG option in the Save As dialog box. This is my normal workflow using LR4 and PSCS6 on my desktop PC. So why can't I find the JPG option in the Save As dialog box in PSE10?
View 6 Replies View RelatedSo, I have used Gimp to downsize large architectural drawing images from Tiff's to jpgs. Well, I always thought I was downsizing them. In the past, the process always seemed to make the files more usable in the application where I need to use the architectural drawings without a significant loss in quality.
I will open a tiff in Gimp, save as jpg, export if prompted, then select quality of 40 or 50 percent, and the result is a usable file that is significantly smaller than the source tiff file.Today, the source tiff which is 900 mb in size is being converted to jpg which is 6 or 7 mb in size, totally unusable.
Additionally, if I simply open the source in Gimp, save it to another directory from Gimp without making any changes, the file also grows to 6 or 7 mb. What am I doing wrong this morning that I have not been doing wrong for the last 6 months?
Using version 2.6.11 in Ubuntu 10.10 if that matters.I have a version of 2.7 on my Windows XP OS, and it will lock up trying to open these drawings.
It's curious, because, at 900 MB, I typically can use the drawings without even altering or downsizing them.What I really cannot understand is why Gimp is causing unaltered files to grow in size when saving them.
I produce a colour brochure of approx 30 pages containing photos & details of our latest special offers every 2 weeks in Xara Designer Pro X9 (which is by far the best software that I have used for this type of work).
As each page is completed, I save the document as a XAR file then export it as a JPG in 2 sizes, a large one for printing & a smaller one that will become a pdf file for emailing to our customers.
I am looking to make the process more efficient and was wondering if there was any way to automate the saving of the 3 files in varying formats and filenames?
I have been looking at Graphics Converter Pro 2013 which converts XAR files to JPG but for some reason the resulting file is of very low quality.
I have a large psb file which is an image of 39k by 27k pixels at 48 bpp. The image size is about 5.7 GB. PS CS6 trial only gives me the option to save it as a TIFF or Photoshop RAW only. I would like to use this large image as a master copy from which I can sample lesser quality images for printing. How can I save such images as a JPG or BMP file, that is down sample it and place the result in a smaller jpg or bmp file?
I read some other similar discussions and they all concern problems with the plugins folder. I have not inserted any plugins from previous CS versions. The only plugins that I have in there are authorized CS6 plugins for the scanner fix from Adobe. Is it even possible to down sample from such a large image?
I have CS5 and whenever I try saving any file type to PDF it maximizes the file size tremendously. I have flattened the layers so that is not the issue, and it doesnt seem to do it with other file formats, so it makes me think there is a hidden preset that i cant find pertaining to PDF formatting. Example: Opened up a PDF file sized at 3.1M, and saved it without making any changes and it jumped to a size of 10.3M. (I tried doing the same thing in Photoshop 7 and the file stays at the size of 3.1M.)
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have recently moved from PS CS5 to CS6 and have noticed what seems to be an increase in the amount of time it takes to save large files. At the moment I am working with a roughly 8GB .psb and to do a save takes about 20 minutes. I have had to disable the new autosave features, otherwise it just takes far too long.
CS5 managed to save larger files, more quickly and with less memory available to it. Looking at system resources while Photoshop is trying to save, it is not using its full allocation of RAM specified in performance preferences and there is still space free on the primary scratch disc. The processor is barely being used and disc activity is minimal (Photoshop might be writing at 4mb/s max, often not at all though according to Windows).
I am finding the new layer filtering system invaluable so would rather not go back to CS5. I can do to speed up the saving process?
I use Photoshop Elements 7, I recently bought a new camera (24 megapixels). PSE7 is not happy, I am having lots of issues saving my work.
View 15 Replies View RelatedI scanned, as a tiff file, a full-center spread of a large newspaper. This had to be scanned in eight sections, the pages were so big on my A4 scanner window. When I joined all the sections up in Photoshop CS5, the size of the file was huge (about 21 inches by about 19 inches) It is also digitally large (about 320 MB, since the resolution is 300 dpi).
Because I want to keep the composite photo but don't want the file to be so digitally large, yet need the good resolution, I thought it would be a good to save it as a JPEG file, which would give me the dimensions I need but not be so digitally bulky as the original. On pressing the drop-down menu for Saving As, the JPEG option did not appear in the dialogue box. Why is this, and how may I save the file in JPEG format?
I'm having a problem with PSE 11 saving my files in a size too large for transmission by email even when I use the "low" quality option. I have to send files for commerical ads for review to clients via email and even set at "low" for an 8.5 x 11 page the size of the file is 25mg as opposed to 33.7 for "high". The jpg file set a high quality is only 4mg. Is there an issue with the PDF format on PSE 11 (didn't have this problem until I upgraded)?

They were scanned by me on an Epson as jpgs, then run through Photoshop (CS1) for touch-up and resaved as jpgs by me. Now I look under "get info" and see that they are all saved as "Photoshop Jpgs". this can be a big problem, as I intend to make a lot of discs for clients in the future. I don't want to have to tell them to use "Open with" every time they want to view a photo.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to save some web interface work over a background image for my youtube page. One problem I'm having is that I can't save to png because my image ends up being over 1MB. I can't figure out how to get it under.
Everytime I save it, the solid button looks muddy and pixely. PNG ends up being about 3MB so it's too big.
Recently produced an image and saved as a jpg but need to save it as a gif. When saving as a gif some of the data was lost and the image appeared slightly pixilated. Gave the image to a webmaster and he converted the jpg to gif without any loss of quality. Any ideas where I went wrong please?
Errr... before anyone asks, no I can't ask webmaster how he did it because he's gone on holiday.
I'm trying to import a jpg from PS into Flash. When I do, the jpg is washed out looking. The save preview in PS looks great, but when I open the jps in any other program, it looks washed out.
Any ideas?
I produced a 4 page A5 brochure in InDesign. I would like to present my brochure as a mock-up. Should I use photoshop? Should I save the 4 pages as JPGs then place into Photoshop?

When I did a test and tried to upload PS jpgs that had been uploaded successfully before, the bad file msg popped up again. I also tried re-creating the PS file from scratch multiple times, made sure to save it under 'standard' format, tried making a new file and just placing the saved jpg (which will save ok to my computer) and then re-saved as a new jpg, but still the error message.

After much searching and looking for file associations, I was able to get jpgs to open into Bridge from windows explorer, but still cannot get them to open directly in PS. When I attempt to open a jpg from an e-mail message, I get a window in Bridge pointed to a temp folder.

View 8 Replies View RelatedOnce i apply my presets on raw images in camera raw i click to save all of the photos as JPGs. At the begining the saving takes 1.5-4 seconds per image. After saving for a while computer slows down and it takes almost 10 seconds to save one image.
It took more than 10 hours to save 4000 raw images as JPGs.

I have a psd image that is ~7000x7000 pixels and divided into ~800 slices.
I then:
Choose File | Save for Web | GIF 128 No Dither (and leave the other options, like 128 olors, Transparency, etc at the defaults). Click Save (in the Save for Web dialog).Specify a file name (e.g., myfilename.gif)..Leave "Images Only", "Background Image", and "All Slices" selected.Click Save.
