Photoshop Elements :: Saving PDF Files In A Size Too Large For Transmission By Email
Jan 14, 2014I'm having a problem with PSE 11 saving my files in a size too large for transmission by email even when I use the "low" quality option. I have to send files for commerical ads for review to clients via email and even set at "low" for an 8.5 x 11 page the size of the file is 25mg as opposed to 33.7 for "high". The jpg file set a high quality is only 4mg. Is there an issue with the PDF format on PSE 11 (didn't have this problem until I upgraded)?

Jul 1, 2012I have recently moved from PS CS5 to CS6 and have noticed what seems to be an increase in the amount of time it takes to save large files. At the moment I am working with a roughly 8GB .psb and to do a save takes about 20 minutes. I have had to disable the new autosave features, otherwise it just takes far too long.
CS5 managed to save larger files, more quickly and with less memory available to it. Looking at system resources while Photoshop is trying to save, it is not using its full allocation of RAM specified in performance preferences and there is still space free on the primary scratch disc. The processor is barely being used and disc activity is minimal (Photoshop might be writing at 4mb/s max, often not at all though according to Windows).
I am finding the new layer filtering system invaluable so would rather not go back to CS5. I can do to speed up the saving process?
Photoshop :: Saving Large TIFF Files As JPEG
Apr 9, 2013I scanned, as a tiff file, a full-center spread of a large newspaper. This had to be scanned in eight sections, the pages were so big on my A4 scanner window. When I joined all the sections up in Photoshop CS5, the size of the file was huge (about 21 inches by about 19 inches) It is also digitally large (about 320 MB, since the resolution is 300 dpi).
Because I want to keep the composite photo but don't want the file to be so digitally large, yet need the good resolution, I thought it would be a good to save it as a JPEG file, which would give me the dimensions I need but not be so digitally bulky as the original. On pressing the drop-down menu for Saving As, the JPEG option did not appear in the dialogue box. Why is this, and how may I save the file in JPEG format?

Nov 2, 2012In preparing photos imported from iphoto for a book, I've learned how to change the ppi and format, but when I try to move on I find I don't know how to save and close out of editing a photo. The photos either have red "edit in progress" bands, or multiple copies, or both.
I don't know where to save them, either.
Photoshop Elements :: Not Saving Edited Files To The Organizer?
Nov 23, 2013For no apparent reason my PSE 11 application seems to have developed an annoying glitch whereby part way through an editing process it stops doing as requested in the "Save" options, by not saving edited files as version sets of the original file in the Organiser. The files are saved OK to My Pictures and I then get advised that a file is available to import and I have to import each one, stack it with the original, and put the edited file on top. This is driving me nuts as I have about 1000 photos to edit. My only thoughts are that I have c.30000 picture files in the Organiser (but this hasn't caused any problems in adding new files) and that the problem seems to have arisen since I started editing files directly from within an Album.

Jun 1, 2012I have a large psb file which is an image of 39k by 27k pixels at 48 bpp. The image size is about 5.7 GB. PS CS6 trial only gives me the option to save it as a TIFF or Photoshop RAW only. I would like to use this large image as a master copy from which I can sample lesser quality images for printing. How can I save such images as a JPG or BMP file, that is down sample it and place the result in a smaller jpg or bmp file?
I read some other similar discussions and they all concern problems with the plugins folder. I have not inserted any plugins from previous CS versions. The only plugins that I have in there are authorized CS6 plugins for the scanner fix from Adobe. Is it even possible to down sample from such a large image?

Feb 27, 2013I have CS5 and whenever I try saving any file type to PDF it maximizes the file size tremendously. I have flattened the layers so that is not the issue, and it doesnt seem to do it with other file formats, so it makes me think there is a hidden preset that i cant find pertaining to PDF formatting. Example: Opened up a PDF file sized at 3.1M, and saved it without making any changes and it jumped to a size of 10.3M. (I tried doing the same thing in Photoshop 7 and the file stays at the size of 3.1M.)

Dec 18, 2003I'm having some trouble saving large, print-quality jpgs at 150 dpi. It seems that photoshop will only save the files, as long as they don't exceed a certain physical size.
The size I'm trying to save right now is 37" x 33" in inches or "5550 x 4950" in pixels.
When I save the file, even if I move the compression slider down halfway, it'll save, but it won't allow me to open it again, saying "invalid jpeg marker type found."

Oct 16, 2012I have started editing photos using the Photo Fix Options in Instant Fix. I have then switched to Photo Editor to fine tune my edited picture. When I use save or save as, to save the edited picture both the edited and original appear in the files. If I start in in Photo Editor and save there is an option to uncheck that reads "Save in version set with Original" However I am more comfortable with beginning in Instant Fix and then switching to photo editor. For some reason when I go to save after switching from Instant fix to Photo editor the uncheck feature is no longer available. step by step instructions to save revised photo afterusing Instant Fix first then Photo Editor.

Mar 29, 2012I have a fairly new Panasonic Lumix LX5. I've recently converted a few files to DNG. They're turning out to be @ 37MB, over three times larger than the original file.
I'm not embedding the original raw files in the DNG. NEF files I convert from my Nikon D2x are around 9.5MB. I'm running Mac OS 10.5.8, DNG v 6.6 and also use PS CS5.5 and Lightroom 3.0.

Sep 26, 2012Every new file in Photoshop CS5 is suddenly too large. For example, an 8 1/2 x 11 document at 300dpi (created simply with the Photoshop preset), is now 80MB on the disk drive after saving. In the past, it would be only 1MB.

When they save PSD files they're about 1GB in size.
Storage on the server seems to be getting very low now and we need to do something about it. We have several options in place for extra storage but would like your advice on down sizing the PSD files?

1) Are there add-ins to downsize?
2) Are they saving the files wrong?
3) Are they using wrong effects. layers etc?
4) Is it normal to have 1GB PSD files?

Nov 22, 2012We have 5 designers sharing design files across a windows network. Everyone is running photoshop CS6 cloud subscriptions (which have auto updated to 13.0.1). The team have created and opened PSD files fine since July. Over the last 3 weeks we have had 5 files so far become unopenable - we get the message: “could not complete your request because the file is not compatible with this version”. Could it be that they are too large? The problem files are larger than the rest at around the 1GB mark. We are running HPZ210 PCs with Windows 7, solid state drives for the software, regular HDD for the data, and 16 GB Ram. One file at least was housed on a hard drive as well as the server and neither the local or network version of the file opens so it doesn’t seem to be a server issue. Five people on different subscriptions and computers have tried opening the files to no avail. Files were working ok one day, then not opening the next.

Oct 8, 2012I'm using/testing Photoshop CS6 for our company. We are using CS5 for 2 years with no issues. But PS CS6 crashes on lareg files. Say above 100Mb, with some layers. When saving the file, PS just closes with no message. Windows than says PS stopped working. And in the Eventviewer there is a error event.
I'n running no extra pluginns, just CS6 standard, fully up to date. Windows 7 32bits, 4Gb of RAM, 1 harddisk, Mac mini with i7, fully up to date. CS5 never gave issues with the same files.

Apr 24, 2009I'm having problems opening some large files I've been working on in photoshop7. Win XP pro sp3, HP dx2250 AMD athlon 64 3800+ 98MHz, 1.87GB RAM, 79.4GB free space on C:When I try to open these files I get a dialog box titled 'New', instead of the opening progress bar starting to fill up. The 'New' dialog box has the correct file name, image size listed as only 452k, when the file is actually over 2GB, Preset sizes set at Default photoshop size, width 16.02cm, height 11.99cm, res 72dpi.Actual size of file is 2.2GB, 96cm wide x 66cm high at 300dpi. Clicking on the "New" ok button opens up a blank background layer and no others ie it is opening a new file and not the one I have been working on. This happens to two versions of the updated file with separate file names (v3 and v4). I've opened the original file (v2, which still opens ok)) and have been enlarging the canvas size and converting from rgb to cmyk. It appeared to save okay. This happened yesterday, too and I thought I must have not saved it correctly, so redid the work and saved again. Now I know something not right as I can't open the saved files. I've cleared the preferences file but no change.

Nov 24, 2012We are currently working on an architecutre project for which we have to make printed curtains/screens. The maximum of one Curtain is about 180 meters (600ft). Over the 180 meters we have a pattern, which makes it not so easy to split files into pieces (color gradients, a.m.m.)
Our printing company suggested us to produce everything in a 1:10 scale (1 meter is 10 centimeters) and in 600dpi and they will scale it up with their rip unit and print it than in 1:1. Final print resolution is therefore 60dpi.
As a start we are doing a 25 meters x 2,5 meters file - which is already super hard on the computer. (all new macs with 16gb ram and adobe creative cloud)
Is there any way of working like with videos - online and offline files? So that we work on a smaller scale and then repeat all the steps on the larger images.
We want to get our workflow optimized as we have to produce 3000 meters of image.

Jun 10, 2013I've had problems with Photoshop CS6 freezing on me and giving me RAM and Scratch Disk alerts/warnings ever since I upgraded to Windows 8. This usually only happens when I work with large files, however once I work with a large file, I can't seem to work with any file at all that day.
Today however I have received my first error in which Photoshop says that it has stopped working. The log info is as follows:

Photoshop :: Cannot Open Large TIFF Files?
May 9, 2013Windows 32-bit OS cannot open TIFF files bigger than 4GB. I need to work on TIFF files that have a size up to 10GB. Does Photoshop support this?
