Photoshop :: Resulting In Extra Large JPGs?

Feb 18, 2013

Until recently when I saved a 1000px x 1000px file as a jpg at 10 in CS6 on a Mac with Snow Leopard, the resulting file would be about 600-700k. Now the same process results in at file twice that size, about 1.2-1.5 mb. I have tried everything I can think of to find the source and correction for this phenomenon. Save for the Web works normally.

Photoshop :: Saving Large JPGs

Dec 18, 2003

I'm having some trouble saving large, print-quality jpgs at 150 dpi. It seems that photoshop will only save the files, as long as they don't exceed a certain physical size.

The size I'm trying to save right now is 37" x 33" in inches or "5550 x 4950" in pixels.

When I save the file, even if I move the compression slider down halfway, it'll save, but it won't allow me to open it again, saying "invalid jpeg marker type found."

Photoshop :: Reducing Extra Large PSD Files

Apr 10, 2009

I have a slew of psd files that were saved with maximum file compatability turned which left them incredibly bloated. Is there a trick to saving them which gets rid of the overhead left by maximum file compatability short of rebuilding every file from scratch? I'm guessing 20% savings on size would not only save space but speed things up too.

Photoshop :: IPad 3 Does Not Work With Windows 7 On Large JPGs

Apr 1, 2012

I bought one of the new iPad 3’s (AKA The New iPad) and can’t get the latest version of iTunes to sync JPG’s with Windows 7 64 bit.

I have cleared the iTunes cache and reinstalled iTunes but nothing is working.  To test it I transferred the same library to a Mac and it synced with the new iPad with no problems.  After much trouble shooting I have narrowed it down to iTunes on Windows 7 64 bit is not working.  I have tried this on a couple of different PC’s and also have an iPad 1 and 2.  The iPad 2 sort of works but the 3 is terrible.  Apple really hates Microsoft and makes no effort to develop for it or conduct quality control.

After escalating this with Apple Care I got to meet the engineer who works on this.  After some research he admitted that iTunes does not work with JPG’s larger than 9K pixels per side.  This upset me so I made an appointment with the Apple Genius Bar to complain.  The option they gave me was to return my old iPad 1 and 2 for 100% cash refund on an Apple gift card.

CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X6 :: Extra Large Icons In Explorer

Dec 4, 2012

I installed X6 tonight and I'm now having trouble with my Extra Large Icons in Windows Explorer.  When I switch to extra large icons the first few show up correctly (CDR, JPG, GIF, etc.) but most of the rest of the GIFs and JPGs show as Corel icons.  I can refresh, reload, and they still stay Corel icons.  The only way to get the preview thumbnails again is to switch back to large or medium icons and then refresh.  But if I switch back to extra large icons I get the same thing again.  What's particularly odd is that all the Corel file formats preview correctly as extra large icons, but only a few of the GIFs and JPGs do.  I have already removed and reinstalled X6 and the Corel Windows Shell Extension.

If you run the Icon size slider up, the preview thumbnails for the GIFs and JPGs change to Corel Photopaint icons as soon as you go above large icon size.

I have Win7 Pro running on an Intel i7-3820 and have updated Corel to the X6.2.

Also, I do not have any icon viewer applications installed.

I browsed around a bit and didn't see this particular problem listed.

GIMP :: Downsize Large Architectural Drawing Images From TIFFs To JPGs

Apr 23, 2011

So, I have used Gimp to downsize large architectural drawing images from Tiff's to jpgs. Well, I always thought I was downsizing them. In the past, the process always seemed to make the files more usable in the application where I need to use the architectural drawings without a significant loss in quality.

I will open a tiff in Gimp, save as jpg, export if prompted, then select quality of 40 or 50 percent, and the result is a usable file that is significantly smaller than the source tiff file.Today, the source tiff which is 900 mb in size is being converted to jpg which is 6 or 7 mb in size, totally unusable.

Additionally, if I simply open the source in Gimp, save it to another directory from Gimp without making any changes, the file also grows to 6 or 7 mb. What am I doing wrong this morning that I have not been doing wrong for the last 6 months?

Using version 2.6.11 in Ubuntu 10.10 if that matters.I have a version of 2.7 on my Windows XP OS, and it will lock up trying to open these drawings.

It's curious, because, at 900 MB, I typically can use the drawings without even altering or downsizing them.What I really cannot understand is why Gimp is causing unaltered files to grow in size when saving them.

Photoshop :: Merge To HDR Pro Resulting In Different Image And 8 And 16 Bit Sliders Don't Preview?

Jul 24, 2013

In Cs6 whenever I touched any of the sliders the image in the preview panel changed quite nicely, now when I start the HDR Pro it comes up with a black image in the preview panel. Thats easy to fix though I switch from 16 bit or 8 bit to 32 bit the preview shows up and I can click on the 16 or 8 bit modes and it shows a preview.

Then when I adjust any of the sliders nothing happens. I can play with the sliders as much as I want nothing happens. I have been using the 32 bit mode in cunjunction with the 'tone in ACR' setting which gives great results, but now I wanted to play with the scott5 preset. If I click ok it creates the image beautifully. So not only won't it preview but my image is completely different to what is in the preview panel.

Paint.NET :: How To Calculate Resulting Color Alpha

Jan 22, 2013

It's not really related to Paint.NET usage, but how it calculate the resulting color:

For example I make red background, call it C1:

RGBA = 255, 0, 0, 255

Then I place a yellow pixel, call it C2:

RGBA: 220, 216, 0, 200

Then I use the Color Picker tool on this pixel, I get C3:

RGBA: 227, 169, 0, 255

I already know how to calculate R, G, and B of C3

R = ( (C2.A / 255) * C2.R ) + ( (1 - (C2.A / 255)) * C1.R ) = 227
G = ( (C2.A / 255) * C2.G ) + ( (1 - (C2.A / 255)) * C1.G ) = 169
B = ( (C2.A / 255) * C2.B ) + ( (1 - (C2.A / 255)) * C1.B ) = 0

But for the Alpha channel, it is different and I can't find how to calculate it!

VideoStudio :: Project Size / Resulting Disc Keeps Stopping

Apr 20, 2013

I have been having a lot of trouble with a project that is about 4.96GB to burn to disc. I have adjusted the MPEG rate so that the project is much smaller, but when I burn it from the video file, the resulting disc keeps stopping when I play it on my DVD player. On my computer, it goes almost to the end but then the audio and video keep "catching" for about the last three minutes of the 1 hour 11 minutes. I am currently trying to create a video disc of part of the project, but it has reached 99% of rendering and then hung for several minutes. The task manager tells me that Videostudio was not responding. It has now finished.

CorelDRAW Graphics Suite 12 :: VBA - Getting Name Of Objects Resulting From Break Apart

Aug 8, 2011

Im writing a script that will use the contour tool and then break the resulting contour apart, change the outline of the contoured object and then regroup both objects.

heres what I have so far:

Sub contour_outlines()        Dim OrigSelection As ShapeRange    Set OrigSelection = ActiveSelectionRange        Dim width1 As Double    Dim height1 As Double    OrigSelection.GetSize width1, height1        Dim minSize As Double    If width1 <= height1 Then minSize = width1    If width1 > height1 Then minSize = height1        Dim WhiteOutlineThickness As Double    Dim BlackOutlineThickness As Double        'WhiteOutlineThickness = minSize * 0.33    WhiteOutlineThickness = minSize * 0.5    'BlackOutlineThickness = minSize * 0.49    BlackOutlineThickness = minSize * 0.5            'apply contour    Dim eff1 As Effect    Set eff1 = OrigSelection(1).CreateContour(cdrContourOutside, WhiteOutlineThickness, 1)    ActiveSelection.Separate    ActiveLayer.Shapes(2).Outline.SetProperties BlackOutlineThickness, LineCaps:=cdrOutlineRoundLineCaps, LineJoin:=cdrOutlineRoundLineJoin    ActiveLayer.Shapes(2).AddToSelection    Dim s1 As Shape    Set s1 = ActiveSelection.GroupEnd Sub

So in this script Shapes(2) is the contoured object that I want to change the outline of.  Im guessing however it is only called shapes(2) because there was only 2 objects in the document when I wrote this script, (starting with one). In fact, if i start with a document with more than just one object, the outline change doesnt work.

I need to either leanr how to get a count of all objects in the document and assume the highest number will be the last created object and will thus be the one I need, or perhaps there is a way to instantiate the contuored shape when i call ActiveSelection.Seperate. something like

dim myContouredObject as shape

OriginalSelection + myContouredObject = ActiveSelection.Seperate

I'm sure the above wont work, just trying to be a bit more explicit about what im trying to do.

So, basically, how do i get the name of one or all of the objects resulting from a break apart?

AutoCad 2D :: Changes Z Coordinates The Resulting Pline Is Angled To Xy Plane

Oct 3, 2013

I have just started using Autocad 2010 (i know i know, its not the latest )... but anyways.

I am facing this unique problem where i have a 3d solid object in the drawing, and when the first point in a pline command falls within the boundary of the 3d solid, autocad automatically assigns some of the properties of the 3dsolid to the new polyline i draw.

so for example, in the attached file, even if i am selecting pline command and starting a command within the rectangle (start point shown as a circle), it automatically changes the z coordinates so that the resulting pline is angled to the xy plane.

I a not sure how this happens, and how I can turn it off.

Lightroom :: Softproof To ARGB Or SRGB - Resulting Proof Crushes Dark Tones Into Solid Black

Apr 2, 2014

When I am going through RAW files from my Canon cameras (1Ds MkIII and 6D) I edit them in the develop module and then convert to aRGB or sRGB depending on the output media. They look good in aRGB and sRGB too when I take into account the limitations of sRGB.

---> However, if I try the softproof to aRGB or sRGB the resulting proof crushes dark tones into solid black. Why is this when the actual conversions are way better? The actual conversions look good in both LR and PS CS5.

I have also noticed that when I upload images to my online galleries and view them with Firefox (latest version and color management enabled for all rendered graphics) they appear darker in the darkest tones than what they appear in LR. What gives?
